As much as I really really really want to see Paul, I do NOT care to attend this festival. I want to see a full concert...just Paul doing his entire set.

So, have been thinking long & hard about this, weighing seeing Paul vs. the inconvenience of parking, transportation, no assigned seating, etc. Right now just the opportunity of seeing Paul is winning. Does anyone know if one day tix can be purchased, and what day will Paul perform? How soon would we need to arrive in the day to insure a good viewing spot? *sigh* Why can't he just perform solo somewhere in the Bay Area? But, as I said, just the opportunity to see Paul again is overshadowing the logistics.

This is only my guess based on previous years, but they will probably announce the daily lineup and if one day passes are available, about a month before the show. From my Coachella experience, he was the headliner and closed the first day, played his entire set. We were there early because we wanted to see other bands, but didn't even try to move in close to the main stage until the act just before him finished. Viewing spot was decent -- not great -- also depends on how tall you and the person in front of you are. I agree about the horrible transportation options to GG Park, not sure yet what we will do. I'm not crazy about stadium shows either, but getting in/out of AT&T is a breeze in comparison.

I am fairly short, so the chances are that someone taller than I am standing in front of me blocking my view are fairly high. It looks like he will be performing at the Polo stadium...is my assumption correct? If so, it looks like there are bleachers on the sides of the stadium if we wanting to be able to sit before he begins to sing. If we decided to go on the field, I wonder if one can find a space and sit on a blanket until the concert begins? As you can tell, I don't attend big music festivals. We did go to Bridge School many years ago, but it was assigned seating, which was much preferable to a "free for all". I will probably hold out until the schedule comes out and see if they have day tix for sale.

Stages are built for the Outside Lands festival...it's not in a stadium. There are no bleachers. It's basically all grass, so bring blankets to sit on. People do sit there all day, although be aware that people will show up just before any of the acts and probably stand in front of you, wherever there is room. But then most of them will leave to go to another stage to see other music. If you really want to be close to the stage, be prepared to be in a large crowd of people all day. I don't mean to sound negative, but I don't want you to be surprised when you get there. As much as I want to see an act, I don't want to deal with all of the people, so I will stay farther back so it's not too crowded, but I can still see the show. VIP tickets will give you a separate area to sit in, on the right side on a slope, but even then I think it's still all grass (no seating) and fairly far from the stage. But you do get better bathrooms than port-a-potties, which is what the rest of us get. (That's the only thing I dislike about the festival.) Also, since Paul just announced a show in Winnipeg on August 12, I think it's highly likely that he will play the festival on Friday, August 9. He definitely wouldn't play on Sunday the 11th, and I think even Saturday would be pushing it, since that would only give him 1 day off including travel. Here's a map from last year's festival: http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/festival/images/OL12_Map.jpg Paul will be on the Lands End Stage.

Hiiiiii! Do you have any other advice for first-timers? I'm a lot less worried about this than Bonnaroo, since extreme heat and camping won't be involved, but if you've got any words of wisdom for newbies, I'd love to hear them!

Good question! Here are a few things I can think of off the top of my head: - They'll probably offer lockers this year. They started offering them last year. When they go on sale, GET ONE. Last year it was $5 for a medium locker or $10 for a large one...for the WHOLE WEEKEND! We only ended up using it once, but it's definitely worth it just in case. They sold out before the festival last year. - Wear layers and bring a jacket. San Francisco weather is unpredictable and it can be FREEZING at night because the festival is close-ish to the water and the fog rolls in. - Bring cash. Many of the places do take credit cards, but it always helps to have cash on hand...and that way you don't have to deal with the ATM lines or ATM fees. - Blankets are helpful to save your spot & keep you dry if the grass is wet. Last year they were giving away free blankets at one of the tents. - Watch where you're going. You're in a grassy park. Sometimes the ground is uneven. (My accident-prone friend stepped in a hole and sprained her ankle.) - There is a medic tent to the right of the Lands End stage. - Bring tissues/toilet paper & hand sanitizer. They try to clean the port-a-potties often but they can get pretty icky. - It's San Francisco. There will be a lot of people smoking pot around you. (I'm sensitive to smoke and the people smoking cigarettes bothered me more than those smoking pot...) - Walk around! There's a lot to see, the booths give out free stuff, and the food is from local restaurants and different all around the festival. You can do your own "Taste of the Bay Area!" They also have local wines, local cheeses, and local beers. - Wear good walking shoes, but be aware they will get dusty, as the trails are unpaved from stage to stage. Also, you'll probably have to walk far to get in and out of the festival, because buses & trains & cabs nearby will be packed! Hope that helps...if I think of other suggestions, I'll post here! Any questions, feel free to post them...

Any questions, feel free to post them...

                                  good post!~

They will add a lot of buses and trains, but you may just have to wait a while to get on them. You can probably wait in the festival for a while for the masses to exit, then go out to the buses. Or buy a shuttle pass for $39 for the whole weekend: (http://www.sfoutsidelands.com/shuttlepass/) I don't think they ever sell single day shuttle passes. The 3-day shuttle passes will sell out.

If you are making connections to BART or Caltrain, be aware that the last trains of the day are scheduled as follows: ?BART last train from Civic Center Station: Friday, Saturday and Sunday: â—¦For Peninsula BART trains, please board an inbound 5 or N by 11:30 p.m. â– 12:36 a.m. to Millbrae, â– 1:07 a.m. to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). ?Caltrain last train from Depot at 4th at King Streets: â—¦Friday, Saturday: Please board an inbound N by 10:30 p.m. for the 12:01 a.m. Caltrain. â—¦ Sunday: Please board an inbound N by 7:45 p.m. for the 9:15 p.m. Caltrain I'm thinking best bet is to park at Millbrae and take BART to Civic Center & bus to event (either Muni or the shuttle). Taking BART over Caltrain gains some time -- I'd be more worried about making the last train. We have no problems with walking a few miles, so if anyone has better suggestions coming from South Bay please feel free to post!
