Paul “misremembering?”

Well, he did write part of it. I'd always heard/read that Lennon wrote "In My Life" and always thought of it as a Lennon composition.
Paul's written so many songs one can see how he could have got a bit mixed up about that one.
Funny, it says at the top "get your Elton John and John Lennon tickets"--is a hologram of John touring??
Did these scholars indirectly imply Macca songs are superior to Lennon's with their assertion McCartney songs are more "complex and varied" melodically? Lennon came out with quite a few corkers himself, of course. Song smashes.

I didn’t even notice that! So funny!
“Follow Elton John & John Lennon and never miss new tour announcements”
Maybe they meant to write Paul McCartney and had a serious brain fart!

I have already responded to this story from various sources over the Internet. I put my feelings on the "comments" section where I could. I'm paraphrasing but my comment was like this:
Every true Beatle fan knows that John wrote the lyrics. Paul has always confirmed this. But for these authors to maintain that they know "definitively" that John wrote the entire melody based on a bunch of Computer Data/Algorithms and mathematics is ridiculous. What happened to "old fashion" journalism where the author would dig for the clues through "people".
Peter Asher (of Peter and Gordon and Apple fame) recently addressed this topic on his Sirius Radio Beatles Show. Peter spoke about "In My Live" on the top 100 Beatles songs show. When "In My Life" came up, Peter also confirmed that John entirely wrote the lyrics to In My Life but it was the melody where he gave some serious imput.
You might recall that Paul lived at Peter's family house during the Rubber Soul years (think Peter said about 2 years). And of course we know that Peter's sister was Jane Asher. Peter said on the radio that while John wrote the lyrics completely, he knows that Paul had a definite hand in writing the melody with John. Peter specifically talked about the intro chords/hook that is repeated in the melody three more times including the very end. Peter said that one day he found Paul playing the melody. Peter didn't know the song and Paul said it was something that he and John were working on. Paul said that the melody reminded him of a Smokey Robinson song. To me, if Paul was already playing the melody (maybe on their family's piano since Peter's mother was a terrific pianist) it is almost a certain that Paul was helping John on the melody.
I always consider "In My Life" to be a John song since he sang the lead and definitely wrote the lyrics, but for these computer nerds to try to definitely say based on computer data and algorithms that Paul had nothing to do with the song's melody is ludicrous in my opinion. Of course you have the Paul haters hitting the Internet saying that Paul is just trying to remake history, take all the credit, stealing John's song etc etc. The fact is that Paul isn't like that in real life. He actually praises John all the time and says that he and John's versions of who did what are pretty accurate. Paul specifically brings up "In My Life" as perhaps the only song where they disagree on the origin of the melody and I do repeat the "melody" only.
I would take Peter Asher's opinion over these computer nerds (who might also be biased against Paul) anyday. He was right there. By the way, Nancy R and I have met Peter and he seems like a very nice guy. In all the times I have heard Peter talk about John on the radio, he has had nothing but praise for him and his musical genius. In my opinion, Peter's memory about "In My Life" has nothing to do with him having any type of "ax to grind" against John. This was just his honest memory over the origin of the melody.

I totally agree with everything you said. Oh, and Paul lived with the Asher family from Dec. 1963 until spring of 1966 when he and Jane moved into the house in London that Paul still owns.

"In My Life" isn't really all that great a song...too simplistic and pat or something.

Wow! We will have to agree to disagree on that one!

McCartney or Lennon? Harvard statistician's algorithm determines who wrote famous Beatles

John is more likely to play a concert in China than Paul.

Yes I think I "misspoke" (not misremembered, Nancy R), "In My Life" is pretty good, LOL

Now you’re talking! I thought you went over to the “dark side” for a minute there! Lol!

The mystery of who wrote a 50-year-old Beatles song is solved, thanks to math

According to my calculator, Ringo was a better kisser than John.
