Because I created the thread and started it off with the 'Record Collector' review only to find that someone had already posted the link on the 'Not Such A Bad Boy' board. So I then deleted this thread but in fact it just deleted the post rather than the whole thread.

Oh well, since we're here again, I may as well post the original link.

Probably combined with Egypt Station thread or deleted by a mod.

nah, the mod didn't try and delete it, I did. But it didn't.

It may as well stay now as I'm sure there will be plenty more press reviews (and on-line reviews) that can be added in the coming weeks.

I posted it yesterday in the Egypt Station thread.

Kestrel, you can delete a post AND the entire thread as long as you created it. Same thing happened to me once and I was able to delete everything. But now that we all posted all this stuff, it might take a Mod to delete everything. 😉

This "review" suggests that "Come On to Me"....  'could easily be a top track from the late 1960s or early 1970s'.... or something to that point, not word for word.

I could not take the review seriously beyond that point. It's not even touching Paul's Top 150 songs.  Actually, not even the top 250. What a joke.

I edit.... it's not in the top 400 songs.

Toris, I'm not going to suggest that "Come On To Me" is one of Paul's top songs (Post Beatles only) either.  But I am going to wait to see how I like "Egypt Station" as a whole and how I think "Come On To Me" fits on the album with the other songs.

A Paul Solo song off the top of my head that never got any recognition as a top Paul song is "Rough Ride"off Flowers in the Dirt (2nd track).  I didn't think that much of it initially (and I can think of one reviewer that hated it) but after repeated listens I thought it worked great with the songs around it (My Brave Face, You Want Her Too, Distractions).  Like "Come On To Me", Rough Ride was repetitive but I liked the horns, Paul's drumming and the vocals.  In my opinion, "Rough Ride" is probably not in Paul's Top 100 (Post Beatles only) but I never skip the song when I'm playing Flowers in the Dirt.  I like the groove of the song and it is what I call a good album cut.

Once I get Egypt Station, I'll see how "Come On To Me" fits with the other songs and the album.  I may start skipping it after repeated listens or it may be a song like "Rough Ride" that grows with me.  After hearing "Come On To Me"on Sirius a few times, I do like where the horns come in...that works well as the actual "bridge" to the song.  I also like Paul's bass, piano and drumming.  Not sure if the latter is Paul or Abe.  While the song is very repetitive (like Rough Ride or even Hello-Goodbye if you want to go way back) I like the way all the instruments work (either solo or together).  Paul's vocals also seem to work well on the song especially at the ending parts.  Time will tell and hopefully I won't be skipping the song as I'm playing Egypt Station.  I'm still old school so I'm a album kind of guy.  I don't see "Come On to Me" as a great Macca song either (or even very good)  but I'm hoping it is a "good album cut" similar to "Rough Ride".

Oh c'mon. He's clearly saying it would have been a hit had it been released then, which it obviously would have been.

I love "Rough Ride"...the music sounds sophisticated and Paul does;  yet the message (to me) is spiritual and inspiring. Wanting to get into heaven, "what do I do" to get to go.

Yes, BJ, I was a little harsh on Come On To Me.... I do like the 'horn' bits... my problem with the song is it just doesn't go anywhere. Too repetitive. Might pack more punch if it shed a couple of minutes.

I agree with toris. It should end right before the "Yes I will!" bit.
