I've ALWAYS named my pets after Beatle /solo songs/albums....HALSEY,JET ROCKY etc. I want to name my new GOLDEN RETRIEVER  male dog ,whom will arrive 8-28-2018, SOILY but for the life of me I have never been able to figure out the true pronunciation of one of my favorite Paul songs ever. If you listen to all the concerts that he sung it ...he himself pronounces it differently at various places in the song...listen closely. There are many recordings out there. So, is it SO-LAY, SO-LEE, SOY-LA or SOY-LEE ???? I'd "like" it to be SO-LEE( not SULLY).

Now, THIS is a question I never thought I’d hear! I always pronounced it SOY-lee, like soily (dirty) clothes.

Congratulations on your future arrival. The golden retrievers that people I know have are really good dogs to have.

I have always thought of the song as Soily rhyming with oily. I think for singing it there could be many ways of pronouncing and emphasizing it.

As a guess, if Paul was talking about it he might say Soily. If he had to repeat it many times as he does in the song you would likely hear soi... Lee and then Soy Lay.

Which gives you the option when calling your dog to come to you... if you must call the dog over and over .... then you can say come here Soy Lay! Just kidding. Good luck when that time is here... it's getting closer ☺

Thanks. I just got messaged by a Beatle expert ( somewhat almost as good as me...lol, with a radio show ) and he says SOY-LEE. I think I might fudge it and say SO-LEE just cause it sounds better for a dog name. He's our second golden. We lost our first ...THE LOVE OF OUR LIVES ...in January. His name was HALSEY. A majestic soul he was.

                  My vote goes to Max.

But I’m a cat person. Ended up naming them after Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters!  😂 Currently have Angel, Spike and Willow. Buffy ran off somewhere and Xander was adopted by a friend.
