I agree however , I should have worded that differently, how many of those songs has he performed before in that recent past? I am at the point of wanting him to throw in songs he has not done before. I guess if you are going to change the tour name it should entail more than changing the name of the tour and stage and lights. this man has a tremendous catalog and yet he recycles songs he has done quite often. it is starting to have the feel that he is just wanting to sell more merchandise draw fans back to see songs he has performed many times. I get it it ,is his right to so and I love the man I am now at the point I am not going to fly or drive several hours for a couple songs I have not seen before. One thing that also bothers me is the presale to grand rapids. I have never, never been shut out from getting a ticket in a pre-sale and not only that I tried for several hours and was never even able to get a ticket of any type to come up not a single one. When I put together all of that it is just not worth it to go see him and you ar talking to some one who drove 8 hours spent the night etc..just to see him in Toronto because of Mull of Kintyre ..just think it is not worth it now. If there was 5 or 6 songs I have not seen him do I would still go. I may change my mind but it just kinda seems we are being pimped now. Have fun he is still the greatest to me.

Kelly - I totally agree with you and have been saying the same thing for years. A solo career of 35 yrs is barely touched after all these years. I stopped going in 2010 because it was no longer worth the money and effort to see most of the same songs. If he would give me five solo songs he has not done or has not played in over 25 years than I would go again also. New tour name is for selling merchandise only like you stated. I have actually look forward to him releasing new music more than hearing about another tour.

He never did Love Me Do before either, unless you take into account that horrible putrid medley with PS I Love You from the late 80s. And as for Four Five Seconds, he did it in Detroit when I saw him last October there, so it is just another song from the Out There setlist.

I do count that medley from the 1990 tour. He performed it. However this time it is the first traditional performance of the song for him. And you are correct about Four Five Seconds being an OUT THERE tune, I had forgotten about that.

don't get me wrong folks it breaks my heart not to go but it has to be more than a couple songs difference for me to go now. My wife is shocked.LOL..One thing I did not even mention is his voice. He really struggles with songs like Maybe I am Amazed yet he can not change it out to do songs he has not done and could handle easier. waste of a song anymore. Once again it is sad to me I have a streak of seven years in a row of seeing at least one show, I have had tours where I saw 4 shows in 8 days..I love the man and have been a fan since the Ed Sullivan show.

_______________________________________________________ Kelly, Just as I started to reply to you, my good friend, Yankeefan, beat me to it. We were both feeling the same thing I'm sure. I think there are many regulars here (R. Martinez, Audi, Nancy R, Bruce M, Yankeefan etc.) who feel your frustration. We are huge fans too so we feel your pain. What really struck me was your experience of driving 8 hours to go to Toronto just to hear Paul doing Mull of Kintyre. That is the epitome of the "real" fan. I would have probably done the same thing. I have already posted my frustration several times of Paul not playing Mull of Kintyre in any US city. Besides the fact that it is a great song, he can still sing it pretty decently compared to Maybe I'm Amazed. The real fact I think is that the "company" behind Paul is basically telling him that the only way to sell out stadiums, arenas and charge maximum prices is to play the songs that everybody knows. Appeal to this nostalgia thing especially when so many of the older rock/pop stars from the 60's and 70's are dying. This of course means Beatle songs galore and a few big Wings' songs. The #1 target audience are first timers who have never seen a Beatle before. This is the filling the nostalgia need especially of Baby Boomers. This is a huge audience who don't come close to knowing Paul's full Catalog, but casually know the Beatle songs and hits. Probably the 2nd biggest audience after this are still "casual" Beatle/Paul fans who have only seen Paul one or twice. They had a great time and can afford to do it again. And as much as hate to admit it (I feel it has really hurt Paul's Solo legacy), this approach has really been successful. Paul and his tours over the last 5 years in particular, are certainly not playing to his real fans (like a Kelly Campbell). Like others here, I have reached the point where I don't take it personal. I understand the facts about marketing and the need to fill the stadiums. But also like others here, I would rather listen to my Tablet where I have downloaded over a hundred of my favorite Macca Solo/Wings songs than pay over $200.00 of my hard earned money (if you include all expenses) to hear virtually the same songs. You pay for "value" and I don't feel his show today is value... at least for me, a hard core fan. I don't criticize others, on the other hand, who are going to the shows. I certainly get it if they have never seen Paul. Kelly, you are right in that Paul did play some of the "new 2016 tour" songs like Letting Go, In Spite of all the Danger and Fool on the Hill on other US tours since 2002. I went to the Philadelphia shows and heard them. My biggest frustration (again over these last 2 tours) is that there's little creativity in these shows. They're not focusing on his entire and terrific career. It is about filling up the venues. I get it but they are not going to get my hard earned money just to hear "Let Me Roll It" for the 10th time (I've gone to about 10 live shows). Kelly, please don't feel guilty. You are a fantastic fan and as many of us have said, Paul, unfortunately is not playing to the "real, hard core fan". That is sad, but it is the state of selling concerts today.

. And Paul IS playing for ME. Would I like different songs in the set? Sure. There are tons I would love to hear. I have been lucky, I saw shows in 1976 and 1979 and 89-90 where he did songs he has never performed again. But this is what he chooses to give us now. I choose to accept it and go see him. Spending close to 3 hours in the same room with him, watching him do what he clearly loves to do, is worth it to me. I love watching him play his instruments, too. "It's all about that bass" 
as well as the guitars and his fabulous piano playing. The audience in Little Rock was loud and loving, and this is what Paul is reacting to, so we get the shows we are getting. He sees what happens when he plays songs people don't know (bathroom breaks etc). I'm sorry for those of you that are disappointed. I know this ride is not going to last forever so I'm just going to stay on it until it ends. -

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. Sure he had the opportunity to maybe add a song in the ten days since the last show, but knowing Paul's tendencies and patterns from past tours, I knew that the likelihood of him doing that was low.

I've seen Petty several times. He will play his new stuff but he recycles, too. Friend of mine who loves him and has seen many many shows was disappointed with his last tour because he thought the setlist was stale! So it's all perspective. Everybody decides what they want to see or not see. I'm fine with that. You and others choose to stay home, I choose to go. I was just explaining why. And this is the Little Rock thread so we should be talking about the show.
. I do agree that the proposal stuff is a bit over the top. There were four girls from Memphis and Mississippi who were on stage before the proposal. They had lighted signs that just said "please bring us up on stage.". So Paul said, "well girls, you're on stage." -

I am not an "intense" Petty fan, so I thought the whole show was fantastic. Probably like casual Paul fans think his show is. And yes, this is the Little Rock thread. Looks like a pretty typical Paul show for this chapter in his career.
