Thanks, I knew about Alma vaguely and this filled it in.  I saw her in a vid singing. She sang well and was in one of the big skirted  gowns described. Lennon was in it, chatted with her briefly. Smiling and laughing like lovers. They were on a Brit telly show.

I've read before that "Her Majesty" is actually about Jane, somebody thought that;  but I always thought it's a cute snippet of a ditty about Queen Elizabeth. I read that he once said he and the other Fabs admired her figure when she was young. Thought she had a good figure.

Someone claimed Paul said "Happy With You" is about being "happy with himself, by himself," but to me the lyrics sound like he's describing doing fun things, appreciating various things, accompanied by a significant other. The whole song gives that impression, I think.  What do you think? I haven't read where Paul stated that.

I agree with you about Happy With You. Written with Nancy in mind.

I never read anything about Her Majesty being about Jane! Did read how the Beatles (especially Paul) thought the Queen had a good figure.

Well, Alma was one of John’s many lovers, so that makes sense. You read in the link, didn’t you, that he was devastated when she died in 1966?

Did he write one about sweet-faced Mary Hopkin--Blondie wore her mini dresses so short, he surely could have been inspired to (wink, wink) !

It was about Elvis Costello’s grandmother, whose confirmation name was Veronica.

I suppose there could be someinfluence in his songwriting based on his woman...at the time...., but in my opinion he just has songs come to him at various times in various ways that more often than not have nothing to do with his wife/girlfriend at the time.  There are notable exceptions, sure, but by and large he just comes up with songs for reasons he probbly doesn't really understand.  They just pop into his head.  Just an opinion.

Yes, I agree that some of his songs are not for a specific girlfriend or wife, like he said “And I Love Her” was not for anyone specific (i.e. Jane) but if I was Jane I would be pissed to find that out! Lol!  But it is well-known that he wrote several songs with her in mind: We Can Work It Out, I’m Looking Through You, You Won’t See Me, and What You’re Doing, to name a few. Here, There And Everywhere has to be the best (and most well-known) one he wrote for her.

I guess these have already been mentioned?

"Lovely Rita"   he must have fancied a London meter maid, lol

"Michele"--for just one French girl or for every French gamine? in general? thinking they're special

No, I don’t think they’ve been mentioned. Paul got a parking ticket from a female traffic warden named Meta. He remembered that in the U.S. we called them Meter Maids, so he decided to change it to Rita since Lovely Meta, Meter Maid sounded weird.

And it’s Michelle which I think was the first French sounding girl’s name he thought of, and it rhymes with “ma belle.” 😉

I've always wondered if "Lovely Rita" was originally titled "Lovely Freida," after their devoted Beatles fan club secretary Freida Kelly, and they changed the words, and made her a meter maid.

Yes, I saw your post about Meta.  What I meant was that before I read your post, to know the song was written about Meta, I always wondered if the song was originally meant for Freida.   Should have worded that better.

I wonder who Paul wrote "Sixty Second Street" for, LOL, who was his "muse." Also "Get Enough" although that mystery may have already been addressed (?). The former title can't help but make me think of the rowdy old R and B ditty "60 Minute Man" (which is quite a bit longer than sixty seconds, which really would be quite a "quickie" LOL). I've only heard "62nd St." once and "Frank Sinatra's Party" once and need to grant these more ear time to assimilate and appreciate them.

A poster elsewhere said she doesn't believe Paul wrote "Confidante" simply "to his guitar"--I'm not really buying that, either, and wonder whom he wrote it for.

That was a direct quote from Paul himself in an interview. He wrote it “about” his old guitar not really “to” it, anyway.
