Best 6 songs on Egypt Station and 6 most underrated!
-
My definition of Best songs would be the best combination of melody and lyrics. As far as "underrated" (you could also say hidden gems) are songs from an album that are not designated singles nor were they heavily discussed before the album is released. Here are my choices:
*Best 6 Egypt Station Songs
1. Despite Repeated Warnings
2. Dominoes
3. Who Cares
4. Happy With You
5. I Don't Know
6. Hand in Hand
*Most Underrated (under the radar) Songs
1. Do It Now
2. Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link
3. People Want Peace
4. Caesar Rock
5. Back in Brazil
6. Confidante
-
Best 6: (in order) Happy With You - Dominoes - Caesar Rock - Fuh You - Come On To Me - Who Cares
Under Rated 6: (in order) Do It Now - I Don't Know - People Want Peace - Get Started (bonus) - Confidante - Nothing For Free (bonus)
Songs I like but don't love: Despite Repeated Warnings - Hand In Hand - Back In Brazil
-
I Don't Know-solid song that has grown on me
Come on to Me-meh
Happy With You-Top Notch
Who Cares-decent
Fuh Yuh-Good melody awful lyrics
Confidante-Top notch, but sung off key
Caesar Rock-junk
People Want Peace-Decent
Hand in Hand-Very good
Dominoes-overrated, very average
Back in Brazil-meh
Do it Now-Solid
Despite Repeated Warnings-decent
Nothing for Free-Solid. Should have been the single off the album. Huge blunder.

I don't think "Confidante" is underrated as it seems to have made quite a sedate, refined but pronounced stir. "People Want Peace" is building in momentum as harkening to thoughtful, emotional, sincere classics like "Wanderlust" "The Pound Is Sinking" and "activist" socially conscious type important tunes found on the underrated album "Off The Ground," for example. On Egypt Station, it's a companion piece to the gorgeous "protest" anthem "Despite Repeated Warnings" "Do It Now" swells majestically into almost a white gospel song of subtle, nuanced praise for life's quirky quick qualities of slipping away the harder one grasps, so seize the moment, carpe diem. Don't let it all pass by unnoticed. "Hand In Hand" builds on the "Do It Now" aural ecstasy and "Happy With You" a light charming love song with a similar theme but more folk rock folky sound than "Hand In Hand" but the two work together as the album's most loving exhilarated love songs. The best love songs on there.
"Caesar Rock" may seem a bit of a throwaway afterthought upon first listenings, but it provides some heavy, bluesy rockin' that augments the variety on ES immeasurably. "Back In Brazil" has an intriguing "Ob La Di Ob La Da" sort of vibe, to me. It's another light, breezy sparkling homage to romance and permanent love. It again adds to the eclectic exhilaration, the wonderful variety. "Dominoes" is underrated by me personally as it's gone a little bit out of favor with me, although highly touted by so many. It might be reinstated in my estimation in the near future, after more ear time. "I Don't Know" and "Fuh You" were underestimated by me initially but proved to be "creepers" really growing on me big time as I discovered so much more to them than upon the first few listenings. I feel they are underrated by many fans. They do make a greater impression on me than "Caesar Rock" and "Back in Brazil." While "Come On To Me" sort of nags at me on the verge of being irresistable with its impish sass and impetuous impertinance. A shake your tail feather dance ditty. The medley "Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link" is probably underrated with much more than meets the ear, at first.

Apollo, he is not singing the F-word. The line is “I just want it fuh (for) you.” He never should have titled the song Fuh You. Stupid move - just leave it For You and put “for you” in the lyrics listed on the album.
P.S. I still like the song in spite of his dumb move.

Hi Nancy
Really ?. Cause I don't hear "it" before fuh and fuh just sounds like f*** but not pronouncing the ck. Well that's how I hear it.
Yeh I quite like the song besides the silly obscuring of title / lyric. Is it just meant to create a bit of hype ? It would be in my top few tracks on album if not for this.
Btw Paul used the F-word alot in Big Boys Bickering

Yeah, I know about BBB. He did the song on that Unplugged show but they didn’t broadcast it. I saw it on YouTube.
I hear “I just want it fuh you” which is what the written lyrics say and what makes sense:
”You make me want to go out and steal. I just want it for (fuh) you.”

They *did* say that they liked the play on words.

I know - they were like a couple of naughty teenaged boys!
The whole thing would have been much more effective if they had just left it “for you” in the title and lyrics but Paul would sing “fuh you.”
