          Drum roll please....

          Number 1 - THE BEATLES

Number 2 - THE ROLLING STONES

          Number 3 - LED ZEPPELIN

THE BEATLES will ALWAYS be Number 1 but the battle is for Number 2! You can make an argument that LED ZEPPELIN are better than THE STONES, am I right or am I wrong? Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE STONES but I also LOVE LED ZEPPELIN which make the choice for Number 2 very difficult!

          This is a great list!

I agree about the Stones and Led Zeppelin, but The Beach Boys should have been in the top 5, not number 8... and Bruce Springsteen was number 10?  And Elvis No. 13?? No way, they should be in the top 5 too.   And was surprised that Wings, Billy Joel, Abba and Van Halen weren't among the top 20! And George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr's solo efforts weren't mentioned, but perhaps people think of them as being included with The Beatles legacy.

This is how I'd rate them:

            1.  The Beatles (of course! )

            2. Elvis

            3. Wings (didn't make list!), The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin (tie)

            4. The Beach Boys , The Bee Gees (didn't make list!) (tie)

            5. Bruce Springsteen

            6. Jimi Hendrix

            7. Billy Joel (not on the list at all!)

            8. Aerosmith

            9. Queen

            10.  Santana (not on the list at all!)

            11. Creedence Clearwater Revival

            12. ABBA (not on the list at all!)

            13.  Lynyrd Skinner, Hall & Oates (not on the list!) (tie)

            14.  The Eagles

            15. Guns and Roses , AC/DC, Def Leppard (tie)

            16.  Bon Jovi

            17. Van Halen (not on list!)

            18. Fleetwood Mac, Electric Light Orchestra (not on list!) (tie)

            19. Journey, Styx (not on list!) (tie)

            20.  Grateful Dead

Well, as usual, the band that Bono of U2 said was the best group of the 70's, WINGS, not a mention.  And, where in the heck is PINK FLOYD? Journey and Kiss? Are you kidding me???

"If you want the Beatles, go see Wings"-George Harrison 1974

"This is for all the Wings fans!" - McCartney introducing "1985" for the first time on American soil (Phoenix 2010)

PINK FLOYD should have been mentioned, I'm really surprised that they weren't!

"The Who" is another group that changed the course of rock music and they weren't mentioned either!   U2 should also be on the list.  Others as I mentioned above not getting a mention

That's right, THE WHO wasn't mentioned either! That is TERRIBLE!

EDIT: According to the article, before the top 20 list begins, it does say that "other bands mentioned in the study are: Metallica, Pink Floyd, U2 and The Who!"

Elvis, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, etc. are essentially solo acts and should have their own category.

And what about The Moody Blues?!
