The Number Ones: The Beatles' "Let It Be"

This relatively detailed history of the song totally misses the fact that the version released as a single was not the Spectorized version that appeared later on the album. I clung to my copy of the 45 for years because I always liked it better (alas, it eventually met an unfortunate accident).
In any case, Let It Be remains my favorite song ever.

That’s too bad you don’t still have it (I have mine and about wore it out!) Did you get the CD of Let It Be...Naked?

I love both versions of this song. It's such a brilliant song, it could even have survived 'a rap interlude'. It's a magnificent song. Still sends shivers up my spine.

The Long and Winding Road is the one Phil Spector truly got hold of. I still love it. I love both versions. Another brilliant song.... and then Paul mixed it up further with his Broad Street version. If anything, that was the stranger one. But I love that too. A great song. It could survive anything. And the Broad Street version was the most over-produced.

Yes, I have "Naked" but that's not the same version that was released as a single. It's close, but perhaps a different take (I'm sure there are Beatles geeks out there who have sorted out all these details, but I've never bothered to hunt for them).

I know it is not the same as the single, but I just wondered if you liked it. It may just be the album version without all the Phil Spectorizing. I haven’t listened to it in ages - need to!
