Need NYC Info
-
I am a newbie to the board, but a NYC resident so... looking to get up to speed on the different packages and such. Apologies if some of you saw this is in Let 'em In... but I'm considering the possibility of buying the "special tickets" and/or becoming a "Fan on the Run" Appreciate if anyone can share basic info of what the different packages have, recommendations of one over the other, better venues, etc Also I did see him last year (at Met Life Stadium) - it will be quite the fight with hub to get tickets if it is essentially the same show. Curious to know if/how the set list has been adapted. Also I've heard there are sign ups outside of this board for pre-sale? Really appreciate any info anyone can share.

Three answers: Presale already happened May 10th. Set list does not vary much other than maybe 3-4 songs. You can check Ticketmaster for what the different packages include.

Tickets have been on sale for nearly a week ago now and will be limited in selection, if not sold out depending on the date and venue you prefer. The venues do not vary in price with the exception of the second night at a venue because for some undisclosed reason, those folks are getting his newest CD with their ticket purchase, for an extra seven dollars. Be aware that all ticket prices for all NYC shows have gone up substantially since last summer, especially the packages even though their content has not changed. As of now, the setlist has also gone relatively unchanged however, I anticipate a bit more change as the year goes on and the new album is released. Being a Fan on The Run isn't something to sign up for and is in no way affiliated with MPL. It's just about going to see "the man" as much as you desire and having a great time meeting other fans along the way! Additionally, note that almost all VIP packages (except Hot Sound type tickets) for these shows are just standard tickets that are even more over-priced with "exclusive merchandise"...perhaps a backpack, blanket, cooler etc.

Details about the "VIP Packages" can be found at slotix.com Some include the sound check (the Gold Hot Seat and Silver Hot Seat do not). You will also get some merchandise - last year the gold hot seat merch was a blanket and soft-side large cooler bag which were mailed out following the show. Others could weigh in about the packages that include sound check experience.

In 2013 and 2014 got a real nice backpack. 2014 also got a portable drinking cup (or whatever you call them!) and a program. 2013 also got a big tote bag and something else I can't remember! The food varies wildly! Memphis was a fantastic feast with even a "make your own sundae" bar. Atlanta was just a few cold hors d'oeuvres! Horrible! With the soundchecks, the closeness varies. In Memphis we were right by the soundboard and spread out all the way, left to right. In Atlanta we were much closer, behind the last row of the center section. Nobody was brought up on stage during either soundcheck (or concert) though.

It still amazes me for all the money people pay for the sound check they can't sit any closer than the last row of the center section.

Sit? You don't even get to do that! You stand the entire time.
I think the reason is that Paul doesn't want anyone too close to him (distracting him) during soundcheck. I'm not really sure. It does seem strange though.

Wow, you have to stand !! My goodness, how many sound checks has he done in his life, don't think letting you all sit 15 rows from him would be that big a disturbance - lol.

You don't HAVE to stand, but it is encouraged because Paul supposedly likes to see the people up and dancing. But the seats are there so you may sit if you choose. Not sure why Paul wants everyone farther back but that is the way he does it. I attended a soundcheck for Sting in a GA standing venue and we were allowed to go right up to the front. Sting's VIP packages are also handled by SloTix, so location of where siundcheckers are placed must come from the artist and is not anything that SloTix controls.

Ok, understood. Yes, it is fun to stand up and dance but let's face it a bunch of his fans may have some difficulty standing for an hour or longer so glad chairs are option.

I can completely understand why the fans are made to keep their distance from the stage. Even though we are allowed to attend, watch, and listen, the band is actually working and it would be quite distracting to have the soundcheck audience right in front of the stage hollering and holding up signs. And while most of us stood at the soundcheck I attended, those people that chose to sit could do so. If I recall correctly, I think the soundcheck only lasted about 45 minutes. It may have been longer, it just seems like it went by so quickly.

My first Paul sound check was in Las Vegas in 1993. We were kept that far back at that sound check also. We had also been told that we had to be quiet or we would have to leave. Happily, Paul didn't like us being so quiet and he made that clear. He also asked if there was a song we would like to hear and we asked for and got Big Boys Bickering. The big disappointment with that sound check was our seats for the concert were on a platform at the soundboard. Stella and James were on our platform. There was a portapotty reserved for us.

Do you remember how much you paid? I didn't even know that VIP tix existed in 1993!

In Atlanta the first bunch of us that walked in were placed behind the center section, in the aisle behind the seats, so couldn't sit down! In Memphis I ended up in the 2nd row of people and we all had a seat, and I don't think we stood the whole time. I know we all stood up when he asked to see our signs!
