Were Paul McCartney and John Lennon Best Friends?

They were very good friends, even could be described as "best friends" during the height of Beatlemania, but one wonders why they didn't go on holidays or vacations together. Paul and Jane went off with Ringo and Maureen, while the Lennons vacationed with Pattie and George.

They couldnt stand one another at the end.  John told him not to show up at his doorstep anymore.  That says it all.

You are taking that incident totally out of context. I was just reading about it. Paul had been over once, the time when they almost went down to 30 Rock to go on SNL. Then he shows up without calling a day or so later. John was like “It’s not 1956. You can’t just show up with your guitar. Call first.” He was probably having a bad day with baby Sean or something. Totally understandable! He never told Paul not to show up on his doorstep anymore! Just to call first! After that, they spoke on the phone, but never saw each other in person again. (Although James McCartney says he had a memory of John holding. him, so who. really knows?)

I can't remember the book (or magazine) now but I  do recall one of the Dakota 'insiders' revealing that the Lennon's & McCartney's met up quite regularly between 1976 & 1979. Everytime the McCartney's visted New York and the Lennon's weren't away on holiday, they would see each other. And when they couldn't meet up, they were always ringing each other on the phone to chat. So its nice to know that they stayed friends even if they didn't see each otehr too often.

It really isn't out of context if you think abou it.  Paul never returned based on your own assertion, and they never saw each other again apparently.

It appears Paul was either miffed at the snub and/or  John was perfectly clear he didnt want to be bothered with visits to him and "mother"

Lets not forget Lennons 1980 Playboy interview.  Not too kind to Paul or Mick at points in the interview.  "The Rolling Wings" snipe and others.

Was he even concerned Paul was in jail in Japan??  Supposedly Yoko tipped off the Japanese police to this(Paul had boasted about scoring "killer weed" to John), as they were going to ruin the "karma" of the hotel Paul and Linda were staying at, since it was the same room John and Yoko would stay in.  Not good. Not "friendly"

You really think Yoko tipped off the Japanese police?! 😂 Yes, I have heard that rumor before and I think it’s absurd.

As far as anything negative John said about Paul, well John was notorious for saying whatever came to his mind (no filter) then later everything was fine (in John’s mind)  Remember how Paul said John would lower his glasses, look at him and say “It’s just me?”

Read Kestrel’s reply to me. I agree that Paul and John probably did meet up between 1976 and 1979.

I know it sounds absurd, but never understimate her wickedness.  IMHO she is NOT a nice lady.  Just ask Julian.  She was insanely jealous of Paul and his friendship with John.  Trying to block calls from him etc.

Very few people in her innercircle have said nice things about her over the years except Elliot Mintz....who is paid by Yoko to say nice things about her lol.

Paul speaks very nice of her now.  Perhaps old wounds have healed or beacause he has Beatle business with her so he has to play nice.

If  you go back to the Howard Stern interview from 2001 right before Georges death, Howard grills him on Yoko.  Paul clearly states he isnt going to mention his personal feelings toward her on the airwaves.

You can tell by his body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions that he cant stand the woman.  Hes just too much of a gent to rip her publicly at this stage.

The interview with Paul and Linda was less than 2 weeks before John's muder.  While it doesn't sound like they are bitter enemies, it doesn't appear they are best friends, or even friendly based on Pauls own comments.

                          Starts around 9:10-

That was the dumbest interview I've ever seen. David Hartman was an idiot. He had no clue about much of anything - Linda was not "in her early 20s" when she met Paul, and how the hell could he have written Yesterday in 1965 about her when he met her in 1967, you moron? And asking them about a turkey when he should have known they were vegetarians? 🙄 Paul was probably serious when he shook his head "No" when Hartman asked if he could come visit!

                              probably are best freinds

                              also could be worst enemies

                              depends on the day

thats the unique situation they were in
