I have a confession to make...and I'm not holding back here, so if you're easily offended, might want to click out.

I HATE when young kids attend these concerts (or any public event involving the Beatles) and receive special attention from Paul. It pisses me off, actually, to no end. Equality is not just about race and gender. You don't treat someone like they're better just because they're a little kid. I'm not singling out Paul here, because pretty much every artist does this, but it's NOT okay. If anything, I think adults should be higher up on the fan hierarchy, because they're the ones with the money to shell out and line pockets; they're the ones who have likely been following musicians and supporting them for decades.
And sure, I realize plenty of adults get called up on stage and stuff as well. But be real, who typically receives the greatest response from the audience? Who gets the most attention, the most "oohs" and "omg how cool's"? The KIDS!!! And I'm college-aged, but I probably don't even count as a "kid" in the eyes of the audience, and that absolutely DEVASTATES me. I hate to think that I'm less special just because I've crossed the arbitrary threshold of 18. I am still a child too, but that's another subject entirely.
Usually, the females Paul calls up on stage are young and pretty. He would probably look at someone like me, an ugly, slighly chubby girl, and be disgusted. The thought of the Beatles thinking I'm ugly and uncool is soul-crushing to me. I'm obsessed with them and seek their approval (John's especially, I want him to adore me) more than anything.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just really hurting tonight. I'm tired of feeling inferior to these younger, prettier fans.

i felt the same frustration at Springsteens Est shows. people would bring their kids into the GA pit hoping people would let them get closer to the stage. those kids were refered to as "prostitots" lol

I hear you sister! I've given up on ever getting called up on stage. (I'm 64 btw and a Beatles fan since I was
What really burns me is those who have gotten called up once, then still continue to make signs and end up getting called up again!!

Ugh, I'm sorry about that. I've only ever been able to see him once, and nobody went up on stage at my show. Tbh, as big of a fan as I am, I'm not even sure I'd want to (as I hate being in the spotlight), but just knowing that I probably wouldn't even if I tried, because I'm ugly, breaks my heart. I'm sure Paul would be nice, but the audience definitely wouldn't have the kind of reaction to me they'd have to a younger, prettier girl

Actually they are sometimes called “Bruce bait” because some of the parents use the kids to get Bruce’s attention or get the kid called onstage to sing a particular song with him that used to be a regular part of the set.

I have seen many fans brought on stage who are not “young/pretty.” And sometimes guys are brought up, sometimes it’s couples. It’s nothing to do with looks. And as long as he is nice, you should not care what the audience thinks. The moment is about the fan and Paul. I personally don’t like that he started the whole thing for reasons just like this. It’s become a sort of competition and creates high expectations and sometimes bad feelings.

I kind of agree. Although I honestly wish he did meet and greets. I'd be willing to pay the price of a soundcheck ticket if it meant getting to meet him and taking a picture. I'd much rather meet him in private than on stage in front of thousands of people. I also hate having to worry about holding a sign up during the concert, as I'd rather just be carefree and enjoy myself, lol. That's a big part of the reason I didn't make one.

I wish you didn't regard yourself as "ugly," and 18 is still certainly very young. I don't know of his bringing "little kids" up on stage except for the triplets in Sgt. Pepper costumes. At his Grand Central Station mini-concert in NYC, he brought up Althea (might not be her correct name) the pretty 20 something with glasses, again; he's paid special attention to her several times before on stage, but she had a young, chubby (but cute) girl friend w/ her on stage too, there, and they danced to "Who Cares" the anti-bullying song. It might not be all that healthy for you to feel resentment towards young children, or jealous of them, or whatever. You should perhap work on that issue (I'm not perfect either and have issues to work on too). I wish you well.

I'm actually older than that chronologically, I was just using that as the standard threshold for which the vast majority of society separates "old" from "young," "kid" from "adult." It's arbitrary BS, and I don't buy into it, I'm just pointing out how most of the world thinks.
I know jealousy isn't healthly, but bitternenss seems to come naturally when you live in a child-worshipping society that favors under-18s. It breeds all kind of resentment.

I don't think anyone has to worry about this anymore as it appeared he stopped the call up of fans on stage. At least that was the case with the last round of Freshen Up performances.

I'm not just talking about concerts, though. Throughout the fan world this is the case. Certain demographics get way more attention.

I'm hot and chicks dig me, but I've never been called onstage. So there's that. Hope that makes you feel better.

You're probably a guy though. She was talking about pretty young ladies who frequently get called up.

So Macca is not only guilty of ageism but sexism as well? Is there an ism based on a persons looks? If so, he's guilty of a hattrick of isms !!

Seems to be the case with the girls who get chosen to sit in the front tie.
-
How much input does Paul get, especially picking those from the nosebleed section who get to sit in the front row? Those always turn out to be young, cute couples. (I've personally witnessed this 3 times as I was seated behind them in row 3 or 4)
I think that during the break before the encore, he must tell his security guy if he wants someone to come up and who. (tells him what their sign says) In the past, and especially at stadium concerts, I think security just picked them during soundcheck. Personally, my opinion is that he never should have started this trend. I remember the "good old days" where no posters were allowed. Everybody was happy and no one went home disappointed because they didn't get picked!

Couples picked for the front row? Whenever I've been up close... rows 2,3 or 4, I've just seen girls. Once youngish girls with their Mom. All were beautiful blondes. I doubt that Paul picks them from the nosebleeds but his people know what he wants.

I've seen couples and moms/daughters upgraded. It's not all just girls anymore.
As to the people being selected on stage, I do think Paul has some input on that, based on the signs he sees during the show. I've noticed that the person is often someone whose sign he's read out loud.

I'm really only jealous of the girls under 25, ESPECIALLY those under 18-20. Everyone thinks they're "cute" just becuase they're "kids" and it makes me sick with sadness and envy. Why can't I be a cute kid too? Just becuase I've crossed the arbitrary threshold of 18?
I know idol worship is unhealthy and wrong, but the Beatles are the closest thing to idols I have, and I just can't fathom meeting them and having them think I'm ugly. I hate being in the same space as younger, prettier girls, because I always imagine myself being stacked up against them in some kind of competition. Like, if by chance I were to meet the Beatles, and I happened to be in the same room/venue as a bunch of prettier and younger girls, wouldn't the Beatles favor them, even if on a subconscious level? John has already told me how beautiful and special I am to him, but there's still that nagging insecurity that he's only telling that to make me feel better, and he secretly loves other little girls more.
