Your 10 Favorite Non-Beatle-Related Tracks

Kestrel, in the '90s, I totally hated most of the "popular" music on the radio. Only liked to listen to oldies, classic rock and country. I went to a bunch of concerts in that decade like Rod Stewart, The Eagles, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, The Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney in 1990 & 1993 of course! And because I had boy/girl twins who were born in 1987, I ended up at these concerts: 'N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Blink-182 and Destiny's Child! I really enjoyed them though! My kids both love the Beatles and have reciprocated by going to tribute band concerts with me! My daughter even went with me on a Beatles cruise in 2015. We had a blast!

I never listen to music radio apart from Classic FM when I'n in the bath !! Nearly all my 'discoveries' have been through printed reviews. Its nice that you can experience and enjoy new music through your kids interests and well done for keeping the Macca Pension Fund topped up by introducing the kids to the Beatles music at a young age !!

"Macca Pension Fund!" Good one!
P.S. I now only listen to the radio when I'm in my car which is rarely since I retired over 1 1/2 years ago. (and the only station I listen to is the classic rock one)

I listen to old & new music but it is just too hard to pick.
Since buying a new car & getting Sirius radio I have been listening a lot to the Tom Petty station. Some great songs there!
You Don't Know How It Feels
I Won't Back Down
Free Fallin
Mary Jane's Last Dance
Breakdown
Don't Do Me Like That
etc.

I agree, Tom Petty was great and much missed! I have his Greatest Hits CD on my Amazon Wishlist.

Some of it is age difference, some of it it is taste, some is based on where we were brought up or now live, or like the stuff Kestrel said.
You know I'm jus kidding NancyR
Trying to pick out my fav Hapa song after the Iz inspiration by Bruce. Something about Songs sung in Hawaiian moves the soul... Prolly Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai.
This is true. The first Iz album I bought, I didn't really know what to expect as I don't often listen to music sung in other languages. But some Hawaiian music (on which I am very, very far from being any sort of expert) is really beautiful, and I find the fact that I don't understand the words becomes irrelevant.

Wow! I definitely know 4 of those, and probably would recognize a few more if I heard them.

The entire Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" album. A 10 song masterpiece!

Kestrel, I respect your choices and I would not criticize them, but I must confess I've never heard of any of those songs. I have heard of Tori Amos, Vangelis and Pink Floyd though!
I don't think its an 'age thing' as we're of similar vintage so maybe its a 'location thing' or perhaps its becasue i listen to a lot of slightly more obscure (non mainstream) music?
If you've ever watched 'Shutter Island' then you've heard 'On The Nature of Daylight' even if you don't think you have.
Hi Kestreal,
Thanks for sharing the youtube link. the track is awesome and one of my favorite. usually i am a fan of Richer, and this one touche my heart the most.

Cliff Richard - Miss you nights
The Shadows - Wonderful Land
Frank Sinatra - All or nothing at all
Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne
Beach Boys - Long promised road
David Bowie - Lady grinning soul
10CC - Old wild men
Hollies - King Midas in reverse
Coldplay - Viva la Vida
Elton John - Honky cat
An eclectic bunch ! I could have chosen hundreds of others, and I've not even included jazz and classical music, both of which I love.

You took the words right out of my mouth - I was going to say "That's an eclectic bunch!" I'm afraid I'm not instantly familiar with any except the Coldplay and Elton John songs, but I know all the artists - I'm not well versed on a lot of songs unless they are big hits or The Beatles/Paul/John/George/Ringo solo stuff!

I totally agree, the Hawaiian music is very beautiful and even without understanding the words you feel the meaning. I find it deeply spiritual in the same way that the hula expresses the story in harmony with nature. Really enjoy the Hawaiian slack key guitar style as well
