Now I'm finally at the 2010's Decade.  Similar to his other Post Beatles Decades, Paul never stopped working and writing great new music.

He released 2 terrific Original Albums  in the 2010's...New in 2013 and Egypt Station in 2018.  And while a completely different Genre than his Run Devil Run rock & roll Covers album in 1999, Paul released an American Standards "Covers" album in 2012 called "Kisses on the Bottom".  While it took a little while to grow on me, I got to really like the "Kisses" album.  I especially like certain covers by Paul when he makes them his "own" based on his style musically and vocally.  As I loved cover songs on Run Devil Run like No Other Baby, Lonesome Town and Brown Eyed Handsome Man...I equally loved "Kisses" covers like More I Cannot Wish You, Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive and Get Yourself Another Fool.  Like on Run Devil Run, Paul also wrote a couple of great originals on "Kisses" written in the same genre.

          Here goes:

2010's Disc for a Paul McCartney Anthology

          1. I Want to Come Home (Paul song written for the movie Everybody's Fine)

          2. My Valentine (Original Paul song from his 2012 Album "Kisses on the Bottom"; pick the best live track)

          3. Only Our Hearts (Another original Paul song from "Kisses"; great vocal by Paul and a great harmonica vocal by Stevie Wonder.  Started hearing it on Spotify's "this is Paul McCartney channel and absolutely love it.

          4. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter - I have a soft spot for this "Kisses" cover since I remember My Mother and her big Irish family singing this during their Sunday get togethers.

          5. More I Cannot Wish For - another great cover from Kisses and one of my favorites on the album; great song and lyrics (originally from Guys and Dolls) .  For anyone who has a Daughter, this is a tear maker.

          6. Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive - cover from Kisses and I love Paul's vocal on it.  He makes it his own imo

          7. Get Yourself Another Fool - great bluesy soulful cover from Kisses; another great vocal from Paul and guitar from Eric Clapton

          8. New - terrific title cut from Paul's "NEW" album released in 2013.  Pick the best "live" version

          9. Early Days - my personal favorite song on "NEW".

          10. Queenie Eye - great track on "NEW"

          11.  Alligator - great underrated track on "NEW"

          12. I Can Bet - best under publicized song on "NEW"

          13. Scared - the "hidden" track on "NEW" and one of his best ballads of the 2000's.

          14. Appreciate - this one is for Nancy R and one of the best "deep" tracks from NEW

          15. Hope For the Future - great single Paul released in 2014

          16. I Don't Know - first single Paul released from his new album "Egypt Station" in 2018.

          17. Happy With You - great deeper cut from Egypt Station

          18. Confidante - another great deep cut from ES

          19. People Want Peace - great under publicized song on ES

          20. Hand in Hand - best love song on ES

          21. Dominoes - one of my favorites on ES

          22. Do It Now - Paul wrote this from an expresson his father always said

          23. Get Started - best bonus song on ES

          24. Home Tonight - good song from the ES sessions and not on album

          25. In a Hurry - another even better song from the ES sessions not on album

I am sorry but I never was a big fan of "Kisses", just not the type of jazz I like.  Dave Matthews band and Pat Metheny play the type of jazz I like better than the songs on "Kisses.  My old time favorite is George Benson and we used one of his songs for our first dance at our wedding. I like the other songs on the list with exception of "Queenie Eye" which I never really liked. Just curious which decade list you and Nancy like the best. If I had to pick one, it would probably be the 2000-2010 one.

I actually hate jazz, but liked Paul's Kisses album. When I was little in the late '50s, early '60s my mom and dad would play a lot of the originals (78 records - who remembers those?!)  I was especially familiar with "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter," so I immediately "got" the "Kisses On The Bottom" title.

I never liked "Queenie Eye" either! Love "I Can Bet," "Save Us" and of course "Appreciate!" And "New" as well.

However, my favorite decade is the '70s!! For me, nothing besides the Beatles can beat those years! I was never really bowled over by any of his later albums until Flaming Pie in 1997. I liked them, just couldn't say I loved them. Certain songs were great, but I'm speaking of the albums as a whole.

Thanks for your comments Yankeefan and Nancy.

It was ironic that "your favorite decade" subject came up as I was just reviewing the 5 Decades/Discs that I had put together.  Good subject for sure.

I actually had a good time researching each decade and as a lifelong McCartney fan (He was my favorite Beatle early on) I was not surprised how good each Decade's Disc could potentially be.  As I said, he has so many songs and so many that didn't get on the final album he was working on at the time.  And then you have unreleased songs in Paul's vaults that  someday could see the light of day in a possible "definitive like" McCartney Anthology.  As far as picking a "favorite decade" here are my thoughts:

70's disc - this was the decade where you have so many choices for a 20-25 tracklist.  Paul released so many albums in the 70's and then he had sessions (like the Ram era) where he had a bunch of songs that never made it on Ram or Wildlife.  Because of the nature of the kind of Anthology I had in mind and previous Paul Compilations he already released (All the Best, Wingspan, Pure McCartney, Wings Over America) I generally stayed away from the hits.  I didn't realize it when I typed in my 70's List that I had neglected to include one Band on the Run song.  Because BOTR was Paul's biggest selling Post Beatles' album, I didn't put any of the 3 Top Ten Billboard songs on my list.  Then I didn't list other BOTR songs like 1985, Let Me Roll It to You, and Bluebird because they are so well known, on some of the excisting compilations and Paul himself has played them in his own World tours.  In retrospect, you could add Mamunia to the list but again, it is easy to come up with 20-22 songs without anything from BOTR.  I put Maybe I'm Amazed on my list because it is considered Paul's best song but I didn't want the same studio version from the other compilations.  I remember seeing a couple of "live versions" of MIA from Paul's limited European shows in 1979 and they were fantastic.  In the late 70's Paul's voice was tremendous so that is why I would like to see MIA on the 70's disc but in a different version than everyone knows.  Same thing for Every Night... another great song from the McCartney album.  All in all, I think the 70's Disc could arguably be the best Decade on a Definitive Paul Post Beatles Anthology.

80's - this is certainly an interesting Decade for Paul since he had so many hi's and low's.  I like my choices because there are so many good, deep album tracks and also great potential unreleased songs like "On the Wings of a Nighingale", "Yvonne" and "Lindiana".  Another Decade where I had more good songs on my initial list that I had to cut because there were so many very good but yet underpublicized songs.  I also thought that several songs from the  Press to Play sessions were very underrated.

90's - another decade where there were many good choices especially considering that the "Off the Ground" sessions yielded another whole album of extra songs (the Complete Works only released in the Netherlands).  On the top of thise, you have Flaming Pie, easily one of Paul's best Solo Albums.  The 90's  also contains many good to great "live" versions considering Paul toured with 2 great Bands (Run Devil Run Band and Off the Ground World Tour Band) during the 90's.  Paul still had a great voice during the 90's.

2000 to 2010 - great decade for Paul considering he had 2 great back to back albums (Chaos and Memory Almost Full).  While Driving Rain had mixed results there were still some very good tracks on the Album and Electric Arguments  finished off the Decade.  Again, arguably it could be the best disc on a 5 Disc Anthology.

2010 to 2020 - the final full decade in Paul's tremendous Post Beatles' career where again you have many choices.

If I was going to pick 1 Decade, I would probably pick 2000 to 2010 mainly because of the quality of the songs both melodically and lyrically mainly from Chaos and Memory Almost Full.  The 70's is another potential Disc that could be just as great.  As I said, I think Paul needs a complete and defiinitive compilation for his entire Post Beatles' career.  I think this  5 Decade package could be better than any compilation he's done to this point especially for the true Paul Solo fans.  I think it would be important for Paul since his Post Beatles' and Post Wings career is so underrated.  Hopefully we will get an Paul Anthology sometime around 2022 when Paul reaches 80.

Hey Yankeefan...I understand what you are saying about "Kisses".  When the album came out, I as usual,  immediately bought it.  Upon first listens, I admit that it through me for a loop.  Afterall, Paul has in my opinion (and I know yours too)  one of the best "Rock and Roll" voices of all time and surely "Kisses" was so much different than McCartney fans were used to.  I remember skipping more tracks than I usually do on a new McCartney album and I had to get used to his "older voice" on many of the songs.  But I loved the 2 originals on Kisses and I liked several of the "tradiional" Pop style songs where his current vocals were squarely in his range.  Those included Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive and Get Yourself Another Fool.  They were more "soul style traditional" pop songs from the 30's and 40's where Paul's vocals sounded very good in my opinion.  As I got more used to the genre style of Kisses, there were more songs that grew with me too like It's Only a Paper Moon, Always and More I Cannot Wish More.  All in all, I grew to like the album as a whole.  Not a Top Paul Solo Album by any means but still an enjoyable album once I got used to it.  As you can see, the "Kisses" songs on my 2010's Disc list were songs that I liked and were songs where his "older voice" were well in his range.  I do think that a Paul's 2010's Disc in a project like I'm suggesting might not be as good as his other Decades (especialy the 70's and 2000's) but still in my opinion be quite good looking at the songs.

I like "Queenie Eye" better than both of you but it's not my favorite song on New.  I like 3 or 4 "New" songs better than Queenie Eye.  It's a good album cut, has good production and good lyrics but not one of his all-time Solo songs in my opinion.  I would be just as happy with "Save Us" in its place on a 2010's Disc.

Speaking of the 2010's Disc, I have to admit that I haven't heard all the extra songs (in CD quality) from either the "New" or Egypt Staton albums.  Not crazy about the way Artists and their Record Companies release Post Albums 6 months after the original album is released with extra songs from the Sessions and "Live" versions of a few of the songs that the record company and artist is pushing.  In the case of Paul, I never bought the Post New or Egypt Station albums.  For that reason, I don't have any of the extra songs from either New or Egypt Staton with the exception of Home Tonight and In A Hurry which I heard bunch of times on Youtube.  I really liked both songs and felt as though they would be good choices for a Paul Anthology 2010's Disc.

For anyone who feels that any of the extra session songs below are really good and would be great on a Paul future Anthology Package please let us know:

" I think this  5 Decade package could be better than any compilation he's done to this point especially for the true Paul Solo fans.  I think it would be important for Paul since his Post Beatles' and Post Wings career is so underrated.  Hopefully we will get an Paul Anthology sometime around 2022 when Paul reaches 80."

Sadly, I don't have much faith in the McCartney team to take on this type of project. First, I really don't think they believe his solo material is liked enough to put together this type of package. Second, if they did attempt to do it I don't trust them to do as good a job as you have done. Finally, I don't think this would ever be done while McCartney is alive. IMO it will only be done after he sadly is gone and the estate might want to just release anything they can that he has done.

Thanks Yankeefan and Nancy.  It's nice to know that at least a couple of Paul fans on Maccaboard are following this Paul Post Beatles' Anthology idea for a better and more complete Career Compilation at some point in the future.  Thanks also for the compliments on my various song lists for each Decade.

Both of you may be right especiallly with th fact that it appears that Paul is going to continue with his Remaster/Archive Series with Flaming Pie being the next one in July 2020.  But, I wouldn't be suprised if a new Compilation could happen in a couple of years to expand on Pure McCartney since, as we have discussed, had many holes and gaps.  We will see.  The next big milestone for Paul will probably be in June 2022 when he reaches 80 years old.  As I have pointed out, that could be a time when Paul and his Company could decide to do something special with his Post Beates Discography.  Yankeefan makes a great point however...would they do a good job?  Will they dig out the unreleased stuff or rare recordings of already known songs to avoid the "duplication" issues that marred (in my opinion) Pure McCartney.  That might be the bigger question even if they would do this type of project.

One thing that does make me feel better and gives me more optimism about these questions is the relatively new feature in this Website called "Sticking Out of My Back Pocket.  Paul apparently is expanding this feature!  From what they announced, each month they are going to give a new "Sticking Out of My Back Pocket" Playlist with a new monthlly theme.  As you've probably seen, this January they put together a new 10 Song List (with audio of the songs) with a theme of "New Beginnings".  In a few days, we should get a new theme for February with hopefully 10 different songs.  Just guessing,  the new theme  might be "Love songs" to celebrate February and Valentine's Day.  The main thing about these lists and with the title of this feature, many of the songs will be deep cuts along with a few classics.  Hopefully the "deep cuts" will be in the majority.  If they do this each month and this feature becomes popular, then they may see more of a demand for a new, more complete Compilation Package in a couple of years.  Hopefully this feature also helps get more fans to hear more of Paul's complete Post Beatles' Discography and not just the hits.

You would be happy Nancy...for his best 20 Paul McCartney songs from the 90's, he chose a bunch from Flaming Pie including Calico Skies as his #1.  Beautiful Night and Little Willow were also very high up his list.  No surprise here in that Flaming Pie was easily his best Album of the Decade.

Thanks oobu24 for sharing this vidio.  I really enjoyed hearing his opinions.  It makes sense that since we finished up another decade (2010 to 2020) we will get "Best of the Decade Paul song Lists" on youtube.  Many of this person's song choices were on my list but he added a couple of "classical" pieces that Paul did in the 90's.  I stayed away from anything from Paul's "Classical" albums and stayed more in Paul's wheelhouse...the Pop-Rock Genre.  Another difference in our lists is that he stayed only with Paul-written songs.  Conversely, I had a few "covers" on my 90's list like Brown Eyed Hansome Man, Lonesome Town and No Other Baby.  I do understand his point about not including "covers" but Paul has done over the years a superb job on certain "covers" where he makes a particular song his "own".  As a big fan,  I would like to have the 3 cover songs I mentioned above on a 90's Disc.  My Decade Lists here on Maccaboard were not necessarily based on "Best Of, biggest hit or most known Paul songs but on good songs that Paul left off his corresponding albums during the Decade and I even included "Unreleased" songs.  I was looking at a Complete Paul Anthology by Decade that didn't duplicate his earlier Compilation packages that fans have already bought.

The other big difference in our Lists is that he only includes "studio" tracks.  In the 90's especially Paul did many "live" shows where, in quite a few cases. his "live versions" easily surpassed the studio versions in my opinion.  Paul was still singing very well in the 90's and he had 2 different but great bands during his "Off the Ground" tours and his "Run Devil Run tour.  A good example for this is where he picks the studio version of C'Mon People from Off the Ground.  Conversely, I saw several live versions of C'Mon People that were much better (in my opiniion) on his 1993 World Tour.  Another advantage of using great "live versions" is that it gives big time fans who have already bought the original album a different take on the song instead of using the exact same studio version on the Compilation Package.

Anyway I really enjoyed seeing what other big time Paul fans think about Paul's output in the 90's.

I'm listening to Tripping the Live Fantastic (1990) in my car whenever I drive somewhere. God, his voice was great then!
I need to take a road trip and listen to all his solo albums (some I've only listened to maybe twice!) "Don't cane me, I was led astray!"

BJ, do you think including "Cut Me Some Slack" with David Grol and members of Nirvana would be good edition. Yes, mostly a jam but still a good part of history with McCarney doing song with them.

I need to take a road trip and listen to all his solo albums (some I've only listened to maybe twice!) "Don't cane me, I was led astray!"

Yes, the car is where I listen to Paul the most.  And if you have a lot of Macca CD's, it makes the most sense.  Since you love the 70's, albums like Venus and Mars, Ram, Red Rose Speedway, London Town and Back to the Egg are all good.  If you got any of the bonus CD's from the new Archive Release of Red Rose Speedway make sure you give them a listen.   They contain a  lot of  extra songs  written around the time of the Ram, Wildlife and Speedway sessions.  I found them quite enjoyable since they were like "new songs" for me.

Good call Yankeefan.  As you know, it was written by Paul and the surviving members of Nirvana at the end of 2012 so I personally think it could be part of a 2010's Decade Disc.  Apparently Paul (a close friend of Dave Grohl's) was invited by Dave to jam with the members of Nirvana and "Cut Me Some Slack" was written during the subsequent jaming session.  Paul had said that he had gotten a new guitar and was fooling around with some chords and during the impromtu jam "Cut Me Some Slack " came out of it.

I had considered "Four-Five Seconds" for the 2010's Disc, but I wasn't sure that song made sense for a Paul McCartney Anthology.   While Paul had a hand in writing "Four-five Seconds" initially with Kanye West, he didn't really play on the song nor is he singing on the single which became a hit.  The single release is, of course, sung by Rihanna and Kanya.  Conversely on "Cut Me Some Slack" Paul not only wrote the song with the surviving members of Nivana,  he is the lead singer.  As far as sequencing "Cut Me Some Slack" with other songs on a 2010 Compilatlion Paul Disc,  I think it would be important.  "Cut Me Some Slack" is defiintely a "hard rock" style song that has a loose feeling of "Helter Slelter"and to me so it is definitely different than many of the songs I've listed.  It might be a good closer type song on the Disc.

Another song I forgot about for the 2010's would be "In the Blink of an Eye"written by Paul for the Ethel and Ernest Motion Picture in 2016.  Really a nice Pop Song with a beautiful melody and sung by Paul.  It would, in my opinion, fit beautiful with many of the songs on my list.  The fact that it wasn't on any Paul original album and not on any of Paul's previous Compilations (including his latest Pure McCartney) makes total sense for what this type of Paul McCartney Post Beatles Anthology by Decade is about.

When I was putting the 2010 Decade together, I did feel as though I had a little too many songs from "Egypt Station" and" New" on the proposed tracklist.  "In the Blink of an Eye" and "Cut Me Some Slack" would both make sense and make the full 2010's tracklist more well rounded.  Paul just has so many songs not on his original albums and it is why I think a full Paul Anthology By Decade does makes total sense especially in a couple of years.   Just me opinion.

I just don't see McCartney spending the time to do a project like this, could see him overseeing somebody else doing the hard work and him giving the songs selected his up or down vote. Do you think somebody like Giles Martin would be a good person to lead this type of project? He has produced McCartney and is the son of the late George Martin so I think he could be trusted to do a good job. If not him, maybe we nominate you -lol.
