BJ, do you think including "Cut Me Some Slack" with David Grol and members of Nirvana would be good edition. Yes, mostly a jam but still a good part of history with McCarney doing song with them.

Good call Yankeefan.  As you know, it was written by Paul and the surviving members of Nirvana at the end of 2012 so I personally think it could be part of a 2010's Decade Disc.  Apparently Paul (a close friend of Dave Grohl's) was invited by Dave to jam with the members of Nirvana and "Cut Me Some Slack" was written during the subsequent jaming session.  Paul had said that he had gotten a new guitar and was fooling around with some chords and during the impromtu jam "Cut Me Some Slack " came out of it.

I had considered "Four-Five Seconds" for the 2010's Disc, but I wasn't sure that song made sense for a Paul McCartney Anthology.   While Paul had a hand in writing "Four-five Seconds" initially with Kanye West, he didn't really play on the song nor is he singing on the single which became a hit.  The single release is, of course, sung by Rihanna and Kanya.  Conversely on "Cut Me Some Slack" Paul not only wrote the song with the surviving members of Nivana,  he is the lead singer.  As far as sequencing "Cut Me Some Slack" with other songs on a 2010 Compilatlion Paul Disc,  I think it would be important.  "Cut Me Some Slack" is defiintely a "hard rock" style song that has a loose feeling of "Helter Slelter"and to me so it is definitely different than many of the songs I've listed.  It might be a good closer type song on the Disc.

Another song I forgot about for the 2010's would be "In the Blink of an Eye"written by Paul for the Ethel and Ernest Motion Picture in 2016.  Really a nice Pop Song with a beautiful melody and sung by Paul.  It would, in my opinion, fit beautiful with many of the songs on my list.  The fact that it wasn't on any Paul original album and not on any of Paul's previous Compilations (including his latest Pure McCartney) makes total sense for what this type of Paul McCartney Post Beatles Anthology by Decade is about.

When I was putting the 2010 Decade together, I did feel as though I had a little too many songs from "Egypt Station" and" New" on the proposed tracklist.  "In the Blink of an Eye" and "Cut Me Some Slack" would both make sense and make the full 2010's tracklist more well rounded.  Paul just has so many songs not on his original albums and it is why I think a full Paul Anthology By Decade does makes total sense especially in a couple of years.   Just me opinion.

I just don't see McCartney spending the time to do a project like this, could see him overseeing somebody else doing the hard work and him giving the songs selected his up or down vote. Do you think somebody like Giles Martin would be a good person to lead this type of project? He has produced McCartney and is the son of the late George Martin so I think he could be trusted to do a good job. If not him, maybe we nominate you -lol.

I agree...I don't  see Paul personally doing something like this with all the things he's involved with.  I thnk he needs the right person/persons  that likes and knows his music, knows what he already has done in terms of compilatlions and what is missing.  I was jumping on the idea since another Decade has gone by filled with good Paul McCartney music.  I think one key is to find the good unreleased music in his vaults  or stuff that most people (even people who know Paul's Catalog pretty well) don't know or have trouble getting a hold of.  An Anthology that could deliver that and wouldn't be filled with duplications from other "compilations would have a ready made market.  Hopefully a "Deep Anthology by Decades" would be available in a couple of years.

I know a few people on this board (ha, ha) that would do the work for free (as long as he pays expenses!) so hopefully Paul might sign us up.  Thanks Yankeefan.

PS Giles Martin would certainly be a good choice but he's pretty busy himself.

Sounds like a great project... would love to see that!

You mentioned In the Blink of an Eye, which was a beautifully illustrated  project of a family during the war and such a beautiful song by Paul  with Classical back-up. Just wanted to post a deserving song, for those who may not have heard it. Love it!

          Love2travel,

Thank you very much for "posting" this song.  When I was doing my  2010's Decade's list,  I remembered "In The Blink of an Eye" but i had to look it up on Youtube.  Like you, I think the song is beautiful.  This is the perfect type of song for a Paul McCartney Anthology Package by Decade that is filled with deep cuts, unreleased songs, live tracks and songs done for special projects.  Paul has so many of them and I would like a really good Anthology with a Disc for each Decade (5 Discs). We don't need another greatest hits Package but something that is complete and covers every Paul era.  And even Paul albums that were unsuccessful (e.g. McCartney 2 or Press to Play) have some great songs on them.  Thanks again.

Beautiful song but I kind of wish this was done before McCartney had his "older" voice. Like you said, this is the perfect type of song that belongs on Anthology package.

                      5. More I Cannot Wish For - great song from the Broadway Show "Guys and Dolls" about what a Father wishes for his Daughter.  Great lyrics and done beautifully by Paul in my opinion.

                      7. Get Yourself Another Fool - Another cover song on Kisses that is more in the Soulful genre.  Another song in Paul'solder voice wheelhouse.  Eric Clapton plays guitar on this as well.

                      9. Early Days - one of my favorites on the "NEW" album that is very autobiographical describing Paul and John Lennon when they were first starting out in their music careers together.  Great lyrics.

                      10. Alligator - one of my favorite deep cuts on "NEW".  Great production

                      11. I Can Bet - one of the least publicized tracks on "NEW" but one of my favorites.113. Scared - The "Hidden" track on "NEW" and one of Paul's best Solo Ballads ever in my opinion.

                        6.  Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive - Great song from the 40's that vocally was right in Paul's wheelhouse despite his "older" voice

There are so many underplayed and therefore underappreciated songs of Paul's. On your lists, I've seen a lot of my personal favs and a couple that I've temporarily forgotten, like My Soul...great song, Thank you Darling... saw that one with Paul and Linda somewhere and thought it was such a perfect song for them both. On the Wings of a Nightingale is another amazing song that needs to get more exposure. Beautiful Night, I agree, one of my most fav solo songs. Oobu Joobu is fascinating. I have some, but would happily buy the complete set of that project, not even sure if all of that is recorded, Same for Ocean Kingdom DVD I thought I saw people recording it, thebeautifully composed  music and the beautiful dancers in Stella's amazing floating costumes. It deserves to be shared in my humble opinion. There's so few photos even.

You have chosen so many hidden or underplayed  great ones! Some others that I feel would be great to include would be the latest Blue Sway which is dedicated to Linda and you can really feel the love.

                          Also 222 was on fire...

Another soul grabbing song is India

A song he gave to Diana Krall just Wow

Joy to the World - Peace on Earth - We are all ONE

                            Hey guys...

Over the weekend, I grouped all my Decade "lists" together just to make it easier for readers to read.  I slightly revised some of them based on some of the feedback I received and also some of the additional research I did.  One thing I really learned from doing this post was just how good Paul's "overall quality" for each Decade is.  I didn't feel that any of the songs on my lists were "throwaways" and I was doing around 25 songs for each Decade.  On top of that, I was staying away from most of the greatest hits that have already been done on previous Compilations.

As I was working personally through each Decade,  I had to cut some really good "deeper cuts" myself.  An example was my first Decade of the 70's, I was questioning the inclusion of "Thank You Darling".  Afterall, It was more of a novelty song but I included the song because I had a "soft spot" for Paul and Linda singing it together and it was really funny.  I could have easily put great songs like "Dear Boy" or "Too Many People" in its place.  I decided in the end to skip them because they were already on previous Compilations like Wingspan and Pure McCartney.

The overwhelming point in this exercise is just how many good Paul songs has in his catalog and that doing an Anthology By Decade (we're now talking 5 distince Decades) will make a very good CD for every Decade.  The other point is just how good Paul's deeper cuts are from all his various albums along with his unusual number of good unreleased songs and B-sides are in his overall Catalog.  He also has a high number of special project type of songs.  All in all, you can have a great Anthology concentrating on Deep cuts, A and B Singles, unreleased songs, soundtrack songs, live versions etc.  You don't have to include only the Big hits like other previous Paul compilations have.

I'm sure that readers are going to ask why didn't this song or that song get on these lists.  I was asking similar questions myself.  For example i was thinking that I was shortchanging some of the good songs on the original Off the Ground Album like Off the Ground (title track), Golden Earth Girl or Winedark Open Sea.  The fact is that you can't include every song.  The real point is to look at these lists in general and realize that you can have a great "big" Anthology for an artist like Paul and still have consistent quality thoughout each decade and not have the widely exposed greatest hits like Ebony and Ivory, Say Say Say, Silly Love Songs, My Love, Live and Let Die, No More Lonely Nights on them like previous Paul compilations have.  And even on big widely exposed songs  like Maybe I'm Amazed and Every Night, I was recommending different versions of the same song.   Compilation or Greatest Hits Albums typically and automatically use the widely heard studio versions. But I would like to see more Paul "live" versions in an Anthology like I'm discussing.  I found that some of Paul live tracks are as good or better than the studio versions especially when Paul still had his "peak" voice.

As I mentioned, I also revised and added some more songs based on more research of special projects that Paul did.  I added songs like "Cut Me Some Slack", "In the Blink of an Eye", My Soul (with Nigin Sawhney), Vanilla Sky from the movie of the same name, "I Want to Go Home" from the movie "Everybody's Fine" etc. etc. Then you have the additional Demo's from Album sessions like the Paul and Elvis Costello demo's for Flowers in the Dirt and the extra album for "Of the Ground" called "the Complete Works".  As I said, Paul has written so many songs and just for convenience itself, I would love to have a more complete Compilaton or Anthology.

Hopefully all of us "hard core" Paul fans will get a great Anthology by Decade in a few years.

Thank you so much "Love2travel for the hidden gems you posted.  This is the perfect example for why Paul needs an Anthology By Decade that I hope  Paul someday does.  I was disappointed with Pure McCartney because it has so little of the kinds of "Hidden Gems" I was hoping to get.  It is also the reason why Paul needs the type of complete Post Beatles' Anthology By Decade we're talking about here.

All of the songs you posted here would make good additions to the "tracklists" suggestions I've posted.  Let me briefly rundown your selections:

*If I Take You Home Tonight by Diana Krall - I mentiioned this song to Yankeefan on a previous post but I couidn't think of the title. I knew that Diana Krall had asked Paul if she could record it.  It was a song Paul wrote during the "Kisses" Sessions.  Such a beautiful song and possibly Paul has a "demo" of it.  That would be perfect for the 2010-2020 Disc.

*India - I remember watching this around the time of Driving Rain where Paul and Band gave a free Concert/Jam on the Internet.  While I'm not a fan generally of "jam" type of songs, I like "India".  Certainly could be a candidate for the 2000's Disc.  While I listened to all the other songs from this Internet Concert, I remembered the song "Celebrations".  It was one of my favorite Paul Classical pieces.  While I didn't include his "Classical" songs in my Paul Anthology by Decade idea, Celebrations might be an exception because it has such a great Pop melody.  If I remember correctly, there is a version with lyrics added.  I could see it added for one of the "decades" because it is so unknown by many Paul fans which is one of the purposes of an Anthology projec like this.

*222 - I'm familiar with this song since I believe it is a "B-Side" to one of the Memory Almost Full Singles.  I think it was one of the  Bonus tracks to a subsequent MAF CD I purchased because it also included "Why So Blue" which I loved.  I included "Why So Blue" on my 2000's Decade/Disc List here.  222 is a good extra song from MAF and as I said, Paul has so many that you can't include everything but I think it is also a candidate.

*Blue Sway - I remember this one from the Bonus Disc on the  McCartney 2 Archive package.

Thanks again for your song posts Love2travel.  You really proved my point as to why Paul needs an Post Beatles' Anthology By Decade filled with "Underappreciated" songs.  He has so many and I don't think any other artist touches him with so many great songs that are basically unknown.  The "Pure McCartney" Compilation was good for the"widely known" Macca songs but what we need now (or when he hits 80) is the anti Pure McCartney Compilation filled with the "hidden gems".

Do you love Paul's Classical song "Celebration" as much as I do.  Is it "Celebration" or "Celebrations"?

Could you post your favorite version of this great song?  As I said, I think Paul added lyrics so maybe there is a version with lyrics.  I definitely think any of the good versions would be a great addition to a Paul McCartney Post Beatles Anthology By Decade.  What do you think?

Thanks Nancy.  When I was watching the "India" video that Love2trave sent, it included "Celebration".  I had forgotten about this wonder melody.  I remember Lang Lang playing it when Obama honored Paul at the Whitehouse.

"Celebration" is yet another great song that could be included in the decade when he wrote it.   Initially, I wasn't going to include any of the classical pieces in this type of Anthology I had in mind, but this one is more "Pop" oriented in my opinion.  I'm just amazed how many good songs he's written.

A couple of Aditonal Notes about this subject (a Future Paul McCartney Post Beatles' Anthology By Decade

                                      * I wasn't counting but the statistics bear out that the number of "duplications" on my lists above (70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's and 2010's with a Total of 128 songs) versus Paul's previous Compilations (Pure McCartney, Wingspan, All the Best, Wings Greatest) was only 16 Songs.  And of those 16 songs, I'm recommending that most of those songs use "Live versions" versus the studio versions used by the other 4 Compilations.  Songs like Maybe I'm Amazed, Every Night, Sing the Changes, Arrow Through Me, My Valentine, Only Mama Knows, New) have excellent "live"version choices to differentiate from the same songs used by the other Compilations.  Of the 128 Songs on my lists, 112 of my songs were not on Paul's previous compilations.  That's the reason why, in my opinion, Paul needs a more complete Anthology  concentrating less on the Greatest hits and his most  widely known songs.  He has so many good to great songs that are hidden gems.  I don't consider the overwhelming majority of songs on the above lists by decade to be throwaways.  As I said, many are good to great to my opinion.

                                      * I believe of the 128 Songs on my lists, there are 44 songs that were not on Paul's original albums.  Again, one of the points of this kind of Anthology, is to have many "underappreciated and basically unknown"songs.  On top of these 44, many of the other 128 songs are "deep cuts" from his original albums that were not highly publicized or highly marketed songs by the record company.

Just want to bring up some of the really good Paul "unreleased" songs on my lists.  These are songs that even many Paul fans don't know.  In my opinion, these songs are very important to a really "complete" McCartney Anthology.  Here are my favorite Paul "unreleased" gems with a brief comment:

*Waterspout - love this song from the London Town Sessions.  Yes, the lyrics are a little off the wall but the melody is so catchy.

*Cage - Another unreleased song from the Back to the Egg Sessions.  Nancy put a youtube video of Cage on this post.  Take a look at it.  It is another very catchy song that I remember Laurence Juber saying that it was one of his favorite songs during the sessions but like many of these Paul unreleased songs never made the album.

*Sally G - This song was released as a B-side to Junior's Side but I would think many Paul fans proably aren't aware of this nice little "country" song.  Paul, as fans here know, recorded the song when the Band was in Nashville.

*Simple As That - I think Paul wrote this during the Pipes of Peace Sessions and I believe it was released as part of an Anti-Heroin Project.  I love the song and should be part of a "complete" Paul Anthology for the 80's Decade

*Lindiana - Another unreleased Paul gem in my opinion written during the mid 80's.  A beautiful ballad!

                                          * On the Wings of a Nightingale - The Paul song he wrote for the Everly Brothers comeback in the mid -80's.  As good as the Everly Brothers Single was (a top 40 Song on the Country Charts) I think Paul's demo is better.  Definitely should be on complete Paul Anthology for sure on the 80's Disc.

                                          * Yvonne - A great Paul/Eric Stwart cowritten track written during the Press to Play sessions.  I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT I FORGOT TO PUT "YVONNE" ON MY FINAL 80'S LIST.  If it was up to me, this is another "Unreleased" Paul song that is a must on a Complete Paul Anthology down the road.  Eric Stewart and 10CC put out their version of Yvonne on a subsequent album but I think Paul's version is better.  Such a great song that never made it on Press to Play.

*I Can't Imagine - This song was released as a B-Side to C'Mon  People and it was put on the 2nd CD of Off The Ground/The Complete Works package only released in Netherlands and Germany.  Listening to "I Can't Imagine"again for this project, I just love the song.  Can't believe it wasn't on the original Off The Ground CD!  Just a beauiful song!

*Love Come Tumbling Down - Great underappreciated gem that was the B-Side to Beautiful Night.

                                          * I Love This House - While it has a definite 80's Production sound, I like this song,  It is very catchy and Paul is joined by David Gilmour on guitar.

                                          * Love Mix -Another Unreleased song and I love it even more than I Love this House.  It's a multi-part song with Paul combining 2 songs.  Love this song!

*My Soul - Great "unknown" song with Paul collaborating with Natin Sawhney.

                                          * Cut Me Some Slack - great rocker that Paul wrote with the surviving members of Nivana

                                          * In the Blink of an Eye - a beautiful song that Paul wrote for the Ethel and Ernest Movie

And of course there are additional underappreciated and relatively unknown Paul songs that others like Love2travel have recommended like:

                                          *India

                                          *222

                                          *Celebration

Looking at all of these songs and all the really good B-sides on my lists is why a Paul Complete Anthology by Decade is so very viable in my opinion.  As I have said, you can have a 150 Song Anthology (5 CD's) where 80-90% of the Songs are not on previous Paul Compilations and even most of the duplications can have different "live" versions.

I'm very curious...How many of you were very familiar with most of the songs above and which ones were you totally unknown to you.

I would only embarrass myself if I told you how many I had never heard of before (or maybe I heard the title but had no idea how the song went)  I had "heard" of most of them though.
