Who here is into streaming music?

I suspect most folks here, like me, are oldsters who still prefer our music in physical form. But I am about to buy a new car (Hyundai Kona Electric, and it is waaaayyyy cool), and like many new cars now you cannot get a CD player! I am unwilling to pay large amounts of money for access to music I already own, but need to figure out free or low-cost streaming options so I can get at least occasional access to Paul/Beatles while driving. Anyone got any advice?

I bought a 2017.5 Nissan Murano a couple of years ago & it has a cd player! I was very surprised. It also has a couple of usb ports so you can put your music on a memory stick & plug it in. It is selective as to what type of files it will play though. No flac. It also came with a Sirius subscription & I have continued with that & enjoy all the classic vinyl stations. Plus The Beatles channel of course.

Bruce my car will play the iTunes song s that I have loaded onto my iPhone, you just have to plug the phone into the USB port.
Those Kona's are really cool, a friend has one!

Thanks to all who replied, but you misunderstand. I have never listened to music in any form other than CDs, LPs, cassettes for a while, or on the radio. I have never used iTunes, Spotify or any of those things. I am a complete virgin to this. I'll try anything, but don't want to spend significant amounts of money.

Bruce, unless you are in your car driving quite a bit and/or listen to a lot of music at home, Sirius XM is too expensive. Now that I'm retired I don't drive much, so it's not worth it. I just got a 2016 Honda CR-Z (2-seater sports car) to replace the 2011 that my son totalled (not his fault - got $7809 for it because it only had 32,700 miles on it!) My "new" car only had 22,700 on it and thank God it has a CD player! It has keyless ignition which I had to get used to! I got the car Jan. 20th and I still have 1/2 tank of gas!
(it does get about 32MPG and is a hybrid) Here's the window sticker oobu made for me!

Looks like they're running a couple specials. The price per month will go up after 12 months. Since your car is new, it should be Sirius XM ready. Most newer car are. (you don't have to buy any equipment)

With a new car youusually get 3-6 months free. That's how they reel you in!

I loved it dearly, but it's really low to the ground and as I get older and stiffer and creaker was really no longer ideal. So far I LOVE the Kona Electric.

Yes, my car came with 3 months of free SiriusXM. But I will probably be too cheap to continue it when I have to pay. So I will investigate other options. I know nothing about Spotify, but will investigate. I think they have a free and a paid version, so I hope the free version doesn't suck.

Bruce, that's crazy! Yes, it is low to the ground - my mom hates it! I bought this handle thing that you put in the metal loop on the inside of the door and you can use it to help push yourself out of the car. My dad used to use it all the time when I drove him somewhere, but mom refuses to use it. I'll probably need it someday!

I still have the Sirius in my car even though I don't drive that much. I like all the oldie stations. They play a lot of good ol R&R!

FWIW, I have been trying out the free version of Spotify (on principle I refuse to pay a streaming service for access to music I already own). It seems to be designed to torture you into finally springing for the paid version.
Does anyone have experience with Pandora?

My brother has suggested I investigate Pandora, so I suppose I will. I am totally unfamiliar with it, but will soon learn.
By the way, if anyone is wondering about the experience of owning an electric vehicle, feel free to hit me up. I'm still learning, but it's very, very cool.

I steal music all the time. You can download pretty much anything for free, and there are all kinds of programs to dowload Youtube videos

Some of this may be repeat from above.
Whatever you can do with a phone or tablet will be a good place to "test drive" some apps.
Spotify, Pandora and the radio apps such as Tune-in (I use for podcasts) offer a "Free app" which either has commercials that go with it or they are limited. At first they are cool. There is a good variety. Then you may start to hear the same selections if you listen after some time.
Alll of them try to get you to buy their Premium versions. This may be something that works for you if you if they offer a good price. The premium versions usually have a better selection and you can do more "on demand" for a whole album or more of the groups and songs that you like.
You could fill up your phone's hard drive or put songs on a thumbdrive or sim card that holds a lot of songs for a small price (for the thumbdrive or sim card).
If you have WIFI you can stream all day long or use your phone. Bluetooth is an option from a phone or tablet. (It depends on your plan if you pay for data etc...)
There are more options - this is just a start to play around and see how it goes for you.

I thought I would add there are new CD players that do Bluetooth or there are adapters that convert an old one, but they can be more sloppy with wires dangling about. There are "gadgets" that help transfer CD's to Thumbdrive that takes less time than playing them. Probably too wordy, but there are options out there.

I haven't revisited this thread for a while. I played around with the free version of Spotify and found it pretty annoying, but don't mind the free version of Pandora. Of course, with the COVID-19 lockdown I'm not taking the sort of long drives where I have much chance to listen to music, so it's kind of an abnormal situation. I'd still like to have a CD player, but since it's a leased vehicle I can't add aftermarket goodies (but if I decide to buy the car at the end of the lease, I may do it then).
