So happy for you Nancy! I see lots of pink cuddles in your future!! Do they have a name?
Thanks! As for the name, they both like a name I dislike, plus it could be pronounced about 3 different ways and the poor girl would go through her entire life correcting everyone! Tell me phonetically, how would you pronounce Reyah?

Bumping this up. Need opinions!

Well you can just make up a nickname for her then

Don't want to do that. There are a bunch of other names on her list that anyone would pronounce correctly and are much prettier - Khira, Kiara, Shayla, Maliha, Zahra, to name a few. She even had Laylah on the list which was my #1 favorite (i preferred the spelling Laila or Layla) but now has taken that off because apparently it has a bad connotation in the Pakistani culture!

I think Reya without the h is better/easier so maybe say that, but Nancy it's their choice and I know when I was pregnant I found it very hurtful when people judged my prospective names. You're having a little grandchild!!!!!! I get where you're coming from about trying to future proof / tease proof a name, I had a stranger in a doctor's waiting room after asking me my babies name ( he was about 3 months) say a blatantly rude "that's weird", it hurts, but I love my boys name, and I love my boy. (And I don't think it's a weird name either, my son s!)

The problem is the name has to be spelled Reyah. Even if it was able to be spelled Reya, nobody would pronounce it correctly! Did you see my poll from the 25th? Two people chose what I and most people would (RAY-ah, which is incorrect) It is actually REE-yah! Ugh! P.S. She gave me a list and asked my opinion! She had even said earlier they would make sure to pick a name that the majority of people they asked could pronounce! Two of my other friends also said RAY-ah.
What is your son's name again? I'm sorry, I forgot.

We'll yeah if she properly asked for your opinion that's different - go for it and spk up! Erm yes, tbh I think ree yah is not how most will see it so she'll have to explain often.. It's tricky isn't it. I don't often say my sons name online (shy etc), but it's River. The biggest issue I get(esp booking his hosp appts on the phone) is that people have started using it as a girl's name too over here which wasn't the case when we thought of his name, we'd only heard of river used as a male name.. We'd decided we wanted a nature name, there are lots for girls, (he'd prob have been Summer if he was a girl), but we were struggling to think of boys ones, then River came to mind, and it seemed to fit it does fit, it really suits him.
sorry for thread hijack, back to your lovely news! It's 4.30am and I'm struggling to sleep as I cracked my ribs last week so struggling through pain. Will try again now though, night night!
(Though to prove people will say any and I mean ANY name wrong twice at diff hospitals they've called his name out in a confused tone as "rive - err"! You ever heard of River said as rive?! Some people eh..)

Oh, no! Hope you get better soon!
Btw, I love River! Only heard it as a boy's name before (River Phoenix, Joaquin's brother)
-
Thanks, it hurts baaaaad, tho a little easier today.. I said I was switching this off, I will in a sec! (I was editing my last post when you replied , I'm terrible at touchscreen typing!)
Yes my sister loved River Phoenix when we were kids, I didnt, so she thinks it funny if my12 year old self wouldve skipped forward 30 years to see what i name my son!!

Congrats, Nancy, y'all got something big to look forward to !
-
Congratulations to your daughter, and to you. And to your son-in-law, I suppose, even though his part took, what, 30 seconds.
Don't worry about names. Whatever it is, someone is going to mess it up. People have been misspelling my name my entire life, and I think it's a perfectly common name.

Congratulations Grand Dudette, Dudess, Dude.
May you enjoy all the love and all the moments of this new beginning for your family.
-
Thanks everybody! She will be 20 weeks on Monday and will have another ultrasound. She just sent me a side view photo and she's so much bigger than just 4 weeks ago!
-
This was taken yesterday. She's due on Sept. 15th!

What a lovely girl. I think you said her middle name is "Michelle" after the Beatles song. Does she fancy their music?

Thank you! Yes! She went on a Beatles cruise with me in 2015 and also to see Beatles tribute bands (sometimes her twin brother goes with me - we had one from 2020 get rescheduled to June 5, 2021!) Her middle name is Michelle, first because her dad is Michael, 2nd for the song! Her brother's middle name is Michael. (Just like Paul's brother! Lol!)
