Maybe I’m Amazed

Maybe I'm Amazed was recorded on the 22nd February 1970, making it fifty years old this time next week... eek !!
-
It's unfortunate the article didn't include a clip of the original studio version, since that's what it's about. But glad to see an awesome song getting appropriate recognition.
-
At least the clip they featured was from 76 & not a current one!

What is almost as amazing is this song was not released as a single until years later when live version was used for the single. I think this song is one of the few casual music fans will know that is not from his Beatle career.

Thank goodness !! - lol

One of Paul's soul songs...

It was really Linda that brought Paul back to life after his depression, or should I say she kept him from sinking to the bottom, after the Beatles broke up. He wrote the song as a result, as a tribute and show of appreciation for her.

^ EXACTLY!!

Hey, I know that photo was taken in the mirror, but could you flip it for me and either post it here or email it to me? Thanks!

. It's my soul song as well. I adore it more than words can say. I'm kinda glad the studio version was never released. Althought it hasn't had the universal recognition it deserves it always stands as a piece of intimacy between Paul and me whenever I see him live; for those 4 minutes it's just him and me singing this song and its the best feeling ever. PS, just an example of how cool this song is, my 18 year old daughter who has a wide and eclectic taste in music, has this song on one of her Spotify playlists.

That is such a beautful experience for you!!
One of his best songs for sure. Have you ever thought about the words eggshell finish, it seems to be saying something else different instead of finish to me. I think it is another language... at anyrate it's so beautiful, like a hymn.

Couldn't agree with Bruce more. While I like the Rockshow (and subsequent MIA single) version alot, the original studio version is the "best" version. I remember one day walking into an Indoor Mall and the sound system was just playing the last 30 seconds of the studio version. The way Paul's drums were playing simultaneously with his guitars was simple perfect. I had the ending of MIA (studio version) in my head for a couple of hours.

As usual with Bruce and BJ, I disagree. The live Wings version of Maybe I'm Amazed is lights out an improved version of the original. Yes, the Wings version was my wedding song, so yes, I'm a bit prejudiced. I actually left it up to my future wife; after listening to both versions she simply said, Wings. The live version just has so much energy, power, and passion. And to be totally honest, my favorite song on "McCartney" is Every Night.

But I agree with you! Love the live version! However, I think Paul was dumb as a bag of rocks not to release the original version as a single! Would have gone straight to #1!

My best version was in Detroit watching Paul sing this on the Jumbotron. It was the year he stopped at the Motown Museum. I just remember his face while he was singing it and you could instantly see he was thinking of Linda.
It was a very very soulful version.

As many of you know, I'm a big Paul Solo fan and I believe many of his albums since 2000 are as good as he has ever done. I love MIA and it is still his "signature" Post Beatles' song. I love the song and it would surely make my personal Paul Top 10 Solo songs list, but I don't think it is "head and shoulders" better than many of his other great Solo Songs. I think songs like "Too Much Rain, Riding to Vanity Fair, Friends to Go, Only Mama Knows, Ever Present Past, I Don't Know, Dominoes, Beautiful Night, Little Willow" are right up there with MIA in my opinion.
That being said, I do say that Maybe I'm Amazed is Paul's most "important" Post Beatles' Song. As Yankeefan said, even non Paul/Beatles' fans are well aware of the song and the biggest "Classic Rock" stations still have MIA on their playlists (along with Band on the Run). As far as what MIA did to Paul's music career after the Beatles, it is by far his most important song. This is what "Imagine" did to John's career after the Beatles. Just like with Paul's Maybe I'm Amazed, I don't necessarily think "Imagine" is John's best Post Beatles' song. I like Jealous Guy, Watching the Wheels and Beautiful Boy better but sometimes American Radio takes to certain songs and that was the case for both Paul and John with MIA and Imagine.

I would still pick MIA as my favorite Paul solo song.(if I HAD to only pick one - Beautiful Night is a close 2nd) For John, it's my favorite ballad, but I really love Instant Karma!

Ah man, it really is! A Paul McCartney concert isnt just a gig but a huge emotional event for me!
I've never really dwelt on the eggshell finish thing. I didnt know if in that song he was referring to the the sheen you get on eggshell paint or if he was getting all hippy with literally egg shells! I've always concentrated on the verses as they describe me. When I first heard the song back in 1993 I couldnt believe he'd written a song, about ME!!!
