I’ve just heard from Lewisohn through Richard Buskin. He says that the May 2022 date is not accurate - he’s still doing research - and that the title will be “Turn On” after all.If he hasn't even begun writing the second book yet it really does look like it will be 2023 at the earliest now.

In 2013 he said he was 40% finished with Vol. 2 and 10% with Vol. 3. So if he can't release it in 2023 (10 years later!) I give up!

Given that its impossible to know everything about the Beatles, in theory Mark can go on forever researching and run out of time before he even starts writing vol 2.

You don't understand - he HAS written most of Vol. 2 already. He doesn't just have a bunch of research notes laying around. It is all on a computer and backed up on an exterior hard drive. I personally spoke to him about it in Aug. 2019 in Chicago at the Fest For Beatles Fans. As he finds out something new or confirms something, he just goes back in and adds it.

I'm quite surprised by that because judging by the way Vol 1 flowed in its narrative, I didn't get the impression that Mark was constantly adding bits in as he discovered more information. From what he told you, he must be constantly deleting whole chunks of writing everytime he finds something new that contradicts what he's already written? That's a strange way to write a book.

Not necessarily - it consists more of ADDING things rather than deleting/changing things. He doesn't write anything unless he knows it is true, and if there's any doubt about it, he mentions that there is. (like if there are contradictory stories about something)

I think its interesting that Mark sometime over the past few months removed the language about 2023 and 2024 from his page about Volume 2. Not that he ever committed the book in 2023 or 2024, but the fact that he removed that section tells me we could still be looking at multiple more years of waiting. 2025 maybe?
Here's wishing Mark the best of health as he advances through through the back half of his 60s

What I can't understand is that in 2013 when Vol. 1 came out, he said Vol. 2 was 40% finished. Then it takes 12 years to finish it?! Mark is 64 years old now and he needs to publish the damn book! He could always later publish a revised version with more info!
