Pretty solid list. Of course, never, never got the praise for Plastic Ono Band. Be real everyone, that album is barely listenable. And yes, RINGO was sort of enjoyable, but please, Venus and Mars, Egypt Station, NEW, etc. are waaaay better albums.  And please, Double Fantasy doesn't touch Walls and Bridges.

Similar to the earlier post of the 10 Best Solo Songs List from the Beatles, almost all the "Solo Albums" on this List are within the first 5 years of the Beatles' breakup.  Because of the huge breakup of the greatest Band of all time, the individual Beatles were on the minds of many fans so almost all of these Solo Albums here were Billboard  chart toppers.  In my opinion, this list is most unfair to Paul as it totally ignores his albums from the 2000's after John and George had passed on.  As it is, only Paul's Flaming Pie and John's Double Fantasy on this list were beyond the 70's era. Conversely, if you are going to base a 10 Greatest Solo albums from individual Beatles on the "Best Sellers"and when all 4 were still alive,  I would agree that this is a pretty good list.

While I admit that I'm not totally objective in my reply since Paul has always been my favorite Beatle and I love many of his Solo  releases, but I would have to consider more recent Paul Solo albums like Chaos and Creation, Memory Almost Full and Egypt Station on my personal Best "Solo" albums from the Beatles list.  I also think that Venus and Mars should be on this list over Paul's own McCartney album.

You know I agree with you regarding McCartney's best albums which are obviously IMO not on this list. I will also mention that I think Harrison's "Cloud Nine" album was better than "Living In The Material World" but it was released in 1987 which seems to beyond the scope of this writer. Like you mentioned in the other thread, these lists seem to be made with popularity in mind instead of quality.

YOU be real.  POB is the best of the solo work.  Raw,gritty, unapologetic, not sappy love songs.  Ill agree about the Ringo album.  None of his stuff should be up there.

I'm with Maccaroni on this one. POB is the best Beatles solo album, much as I am overall more a Paul fan than a John fan. The thing is just riveting from beginning to end. "God" in particular is just a stunning farewell to the Beatles era.

That said, I'm not dazzled by the list. I don't think All Things Must Pass is even George's best solo album, much less best by any former Beatle.

GROAN.  Just as absurd as the list of songs.

Agree with you Tommy.  Music critics don't generally consider any album of Paul's after Band on the Run.

If I was listing 10 Best Solo Albums from the Beatles, I would have to list at least 4 Paul albums.  They would be:

                    Chaos and Creation

                    Egypt Station

                    Tug of War

                    Venus and Mars

The rest would be the best from John and George.

PS If they ever do a remaster/archive treatment for Memory Almost Full, I would probably have that on the list too.

Yikes! What about Flaming Pie?  And I would never pick MAF in top 10 solo albums. I would have to have BOTR and Venus and Mars. Also, I like NEW better than Egypt Station. Ah, well, to each his/her own, as they say! 😉

Yankeefan...That is a tough call between Venus and Mars and Flaming Pie.  Venus and Mars is my favorite Paul 70's album slightly above BOTR and Ram.  So that is why I included it in my 4 Best Paul Post Beatles' albums.  I thought at least one album from the 70's (since commercially the 70's was his biggest decade) needed to be on list.  Still, I had 3 out of 4 albums after the 70's.  As I said, the majority of music critics don't consider any Paul album after BOTR which bothers me a lot.

I do love FP and I could still have it on my list of Best Paul Post Beatles' albums.  There were just a couple of FP tracks I didn't like at all especially "Really Love You" that 5 plus minute "jam" that he did with Ringo.  I don't like "Jam" songs at all in general but I should put FP higher  because the majority of FP is fantastic in my opinion.  And I love Ringo's singing at the end of "Beautiful Night".  I can't wait for the FP remaster archive!  Maybe when I get to hear it, I will put FP on a level with Chaos and Egypt Station.

Yes, I know that we disagree on some of Paul's Post Beatles' albums.  It is very subjective and it changes even within my own favorites.  I probably should rate BOTR higher being so commercially successful.  Part of it is because so many of the songs were so overplayed on the radio and Paul still plays them to death on his tours.  I probalby should rate it higher and maybe it is why I favor Venus and Mars from his 70's era a little more.

As far as FP and as I think youknow, I love. love the majority of FP songs.  It was just a couple of the songs (mainly "Really Love You") that I didn't like.  But that is true on other great Paul solo albums I love so I should get over that one song.  I really think that once I get my hands on the Remaster Archive version of FP, it will move up into my top 3.

And we will have to agree to disagree on Egypt Station.  While I like the "New" album a lot, I just think ES is at a higher level.  But even on ES, I don't like Fuh You and to a smll degree Caesar Rock.  I love every other song on ES and I love the 2 "big" closing tracks...Despite Repeated Warnings and Hunt You Down/Naked etc.  Making ES a little shorter (removing Fuh You and Caesar Rock) could have made ES an almost perfect album imho.  But I won't be surprised when the FP Remaster comes out, I will have FP in my top 3 along with Chaos and ES.

PS The problem with MAF is not the songs, it is in the "loud" production noises on the CD version and I don't buy vinyl editions at all.  Talk about a Paul album that needs a Remaster/Archive edition!  I remember the guys on the "Take it Away" podcast both saying how much better the Vinyl edition of MAF is over the CD.  It does not have the bad loug production sound.  But the majority of songs on MAF are good to great imo.  I love a bunch of the tracks including Ever Present Past, Only Mama Knows, You Tell Me, Mr. Bellamy, Vintage Clothes, That Was Me, House of Wax, End of the End etc.  It's just that the "loud sounds" in the production process is really awful.  And I forgot  "See Your Sunshine" the real hidden gem on MAF. Because of the bad production, MAF in my opinion is a really underrated Paul album.  Hopefully, once Paul gives MAF a Remaster/Archive treatment, the album will have a resurgence relative to its quality similar to the resurgence in my opinion that Ram has enjoyed.

I am trying to do my best Nigel Godrich and say that we replace "Fuh You" and "Ceasar Rock" with "In A Hurry" and "Home Tonight" and we have an even better and tighter album. Just saying -lol. I agree with you 100% on MAF, love the songs you mentioned and as you know I would have loved him to do "That Was Me" and "House of Wax" live much more often then he did.  I liked "New" but liked "Egypt Station" & MAF even better. There were some really good moments on "New" like "I Can Bet", "Early Days" and "Alligator". "Hosanna" was really hyped before the release of the album and I was really disappointed in the song. I may be one of the few who really did not like "Queenie Eye". "Save Us" was decent rocker but nothing special. "Everybody Out There" was IMO a thrown in song that he created to do live.

I guess my take on the Best albums that they would be McCartney solo albums not his albums with Wings. Venus and Mars for example had a couple of songs that McCartney did not sing lead vocal and two that he did not write if you include "Crossword Theme" With that in mind, I would place "Flaming Pie" over it.

Great points.  Putting In a Hurry and Home Tonight on ES and leaving off Fuh You and Caesar Rock would have been ES much better in my opinion.  I really like "In a Hurry" and "Home Tonight".  I have always thought that since Ryan Tedder had a good reputation with producing Top 40 type hits, Paul just took a chance that Fuh You might become a top 40 hit for him.  Unfortunately it never happened and "Fuh You" just didn't hold up with so many of the songs on ES that really had good lyrics.  It sounded like a top 40 record but I don't think it sounded good for Paul to be singing those type lyrics for a man his age. I didn't mind Caesar Rock but it is another "jam" type song that Paul just did on the cuff.  At least it was only 3 minutes or so.

As far as MAF,  I was surprised on the Take It Away Podcast when Chris said he had purchased the MAF Vinyl album and it was far superior and didn't have the poor loudness production that the CD had.  But I agree with you on so many of the songs...very good to great in my opinion.  Like I said in my post to Nancy, I am hoping we get a Remaster/Archive treatment for MAF and it will sound remarkedly better.

My feeling on New is similar to yours.  I really like the songs you mention and I like Queenie Eye better than you but as a whole it is not in the same league as either ES or Chaos.  I've come around to thinking that Chaos is Paul's best Solo Album but again it is another situation where most critics don't even mention it compared to BOTR or Ram.  Paul's first album McCartney gets better respect than Chaos and that is crazy.

Okay, let me get into this discussion.  First of all, I absolutely LOVE Caesar Rock and Fuh You.  Caesar Rock just plain rocks for three minutes; reminds me of Beware My Love and Rock Show.  And in concert, Fuh You was a blast.  The crowd really, really dug this tune.   I could have done without Hand In Hand and Back In Brazil.  And IMO, Memory Almost Full is far superior to Chaos and Creation.  I rarely play Chaos anymore; it just doesn't jump and make me move!  MAF just reminds me of my Wings days; fun songs, fast songs, and happy songs.

And please, Band On The Run is one of the greatest rock albums Of All Time.  It is up there with Rumors, Physical Graffiti, Hotel California, Dark Side of The Moon, Who's Next, Exile on Main Street,  etc.  For some of you not making it a Top Solo Beatle album is just plain BS.

"If you want the Beatles, go see Wings"-George Harrison 1974

"This is for all the Wings fans!" - McCartney introducing "1985" for the first time on American soil (Phoenix 2010)

"Beware My Love" is much better song than "Caesar Rocks" IMO and a song that McCartney sadly ignored live after WOA tour. CHAOS is a great somber album for the most part and is not intended to make you jump and move. You like MAF better, that is fine and makes sense if you like fun and fast songs.  I don't consider BOTR a solo album from McCartney so that is why I would not put it on the list. It is non-Beatle album when he was leader of Wings. BOTR is obviously in the top 5 of my best non-Beatle albums from McCartney.

The lyric is "I just want it for you." The song should have been called "For You" but Ryan Tedder thought it would be funny to call it Fuh You because that was how Paul pronounced it and it made it SOUND like he was singing "I just wanna fu*k you." Stupid decision. My point is, Paul is not singing "those type of lyrics" and even if he was, imo, he's Paul McCartney and he can do whatever he wants, regardless of his age.

One thing for sure... there are a variety of opinions about Paul McCartney's Post Beatles career.  Songa and albums are so subjective and I personally change depending on my mood at the time.  Yes, overall Chaos is a somber album but being in the right mood, song for song it is Paul's most consistent Solo album.  Not a bad track on the album.

Similar to many years earlier, BOTR was very consistent and his most successful album of all time.  It also brought Paul  back after the critics unfairly in many ways torched Red Rose Speedway, Wildlife and Ram.  I guess I don't personally put BOTR as high up as I should because I've heard so many of the songs so many times in this "old guys" life.  I must admit back in 2010 when I heard "1985" for the first time "live" in Philadelphia, I was blown away and the capacity crowd loved it.  I probably put Venus and Mars as my favorite Paul 70's album because there are great songs you never hear on the radio like "Love In Song", Magneto and Titanium Man", "You Gave Me the Answer", Letting Go and "Call Me Back Again".   I have always regretted missing the Wings Over America tour.  I was living in the NYC Metro area at the time, newly married and I couldn't afford the ticket.

One thing I think all of us will agree on..Macca has had a stellar Post Beatles and Solo Career.  Sadly, an overwhelming majority of critics don't consider Paul's Post Beatles Career to be stellar.  And they practically ignore anything Paul did after the 70's as being very good.  I will give this critic credit for listing Flaming Pie as one of the 10 Best Solo Beatles' albums since it wasn't released until the mid 90's.  I think one of the reasons for many critics ignoring Paul's Post Beatles career (of all the Beatles, he was by far the most commercially successful) is that many are my age and they tended to love John Lennon.  It's one of these strange mysteries of life questions.  If you love John Lennon, why can't you equally love Paul.  Anyway, all of us here love many Paul McCartney songs and albums and that is a great thing.
