Very well stated RMartinez!! I went to the Austin Shows--did soundcheck/hotsound pkg the first night. I have waited my whole life to see a Beatle in concert. I have no complaints whatsoever. I think those were 2 of the most exciting nights of music I've ever had. Yes, I'm a first-timer and yes I went with an open heart, mind and ears and got everything I was expecting and more. It was only when I came to this website's forums that I felt let down. It seems that many people here are SO jaded and just want to criticize the set list-- criticize Paul's voice-- criticize the between- song banter, yada, yada, yada!! I really feel that all of you nitpickers should stop and think about your critical stances. I think that we should feel privileged to breathe the same air to walk the same ground as this ultimate music ICON. The fact that he chooses to entertain us at almost 71 I find amazing and thrilling! Go ahead--tell me I'm all "pizza and fairy tales"--and I will thank you for it!! Peace and love, people!
Awesome! Well said. I completely agree. This forum is the worst, and it's mainly just a few people who ruin it for those who love and respect Paul!

Maybe not the worst, but pretty negative and mainly fans of just Wings and Solo.

s**t, I don't care. It was one of the best nights of my life and he sounded amazing for almost 71! Of course you can't compare it with WOA in 1976 where he was at his ****ing peak vocally (and sexy as hell, I might add!) But he was a damn sight better than the Jubilee or the Olympics, that's for sure! (well, I know this post will be censored!)
Agreed!!!!!! I was only 11 in 1976 and didn't become a fan for another year, so I can't compare any concert to that. After hearing "Hi Hi Hi" (plus the other Wings songs), I feel like this concert finally made up for that!!!!
-
I was 12 in 1976 and got to see Wings perform HI HI HI. It was awesome.
-
Even though I have only been to three of the shows I think I can say I don't regret any one of them..EXCEPT PITTSBURGH!! That's a whole story I'm not talking about ops: The set list..OK, not anything great 'cause my song still hasn't been played! The new stage..can't brag on that 'cause when he got up there I couldn't see him at all!! My seats there doubly bad!! BTW..I had seats in my sec. that weren't taken!! Yes the show in Orlando(first) was either not sold out or ppl didn't show up.. It seems nothing can come close to the '09 show in Halifax NS..It was an awesome experience I'll keep in my heart forever!! I heard "Mull Of Kintyre" Ppl from USA don't ever get to hear that one unless you travel out of the country!
-
Just to clarify, I was 21 in 1976 and have been a fan since age 8 in Dec. 1963. BTW, Liverpoolbride, I love your Paul gif!

I completely agree, McFangirl! For the most part, I can ignore the hyper-critical posters. They are present in every type of forum you might visit. It's a shame they can't enjoy the show because of their pre-concieved notion of what the setlist should be, or what the banter between the songs should be, but it's their loss, not mine.

Can't be certain about this, but..I heard that Liverpool blokes are very guarded w/ there emotions. Paul was really choking back the tears and that's so endearing!! I will keep this sig. at least for now..just for you Nancy R BTW..I was just 13 in 1964, and fell in love w/ Paul. Even before I knew we had the same b-day!!

It really is subjecti****ve. For first timers, THIS is the best tour. If you always wanted to hear ALL TOGETHER NOW live, THIS is the best tour. Really, it is about what you prefer. ALL McCartney's tours are great, there isn't a dud in there. 1976 was the BEST if you are a Wings fan. 1989 was GREAT for his comeback. 1993 was FANTASTIC as it was a new set list, LP and tour. 2002 was AMAZING for it being his first time on stage in nine years. Which band was the best? All of them are great, it really depends on which you prefer. Trying to decide who was better, Rusty, Robbie, Lawrence, Jimmy, or Henry, is like asking who is better, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, or Jeff Beck? They are all great, just different. To me, this tour is an extension of what McCartney has been doing since 2009, it really is not the "minty fresh" tour I was expecting. That doesn't mean it's BAD, it just isn't anything different enough to motivate me to travel out of state to see it.
edit to add...someone said that many like his Wings or solo songs better. Well, this is a Macca forum which covers ALL THE DECADES of his career. So, yes, many do have their own personal favorite period.

I was just reading a thread in the Steve Hoffmann music forums about Paul's new tour. There was the usual debate about the set list, and lots of positive comments about how Paul's voice sounds so much better than he did at the Jubilee/Olympics (not perfect but much better). And then I came upon this comment:
The truth is... Paul was not well most of the year and soon after that show he had an operation to remove nodules from his throat.. thankfully all was well and that's why he's now singing better than ever. Check out Roger Daltery's voice recently.. had the same op and his voice is like a 20 year old. Paul kept it all hush hush as he wasn't sure what the outcome would be. Explains why for most of the year his talking voice in interviews was really bad.
Anyone heard anything about this before?? Wow.

NO! Hadn't heard that but I have to wonder if it's true. You'd think something would have leaked out. Is this supposed to be like what Adele had done? I kind of think it's false.

I hadn't heard about any surgery but I did hear he was having throat problems that summer. Jubilee & Olympics were too important for him to cancel out of, so he went ahead and performed but a physical ailment would explain why his voice was bad.
-
This is really no surprise. Some of us commented last year that Paul was clearly struggling with a cold or congestion or something, you can see him move from the mic to clear his throat quite obviously. Whatever the reason, glad to hear his voice is doing well on this tour.
-
It is possible that this is true, when you consider that Paul did the On the Run tour until May 2012, then did the Jubilee in June and the Olympics in July, and then didn't sing again for nearly 4 months until starting up the final On the Run tour dates again -- at which time his voice was noticeably better. Throat problems would explain the Horsens cancellation, too, and the reluctance to explain that cancellation. The 4 month gap between the Olympics and his next tour dates in mid-November 2012 would have been plenty of time to have the throat nodules removed and for him to recuperate. Adele sang at the Grammy's 3 months after her throat surgery. Interesting, though, that this post suggested Paul had been ill for much of last year. Not sure what that's about since he always looks healthy.

I always thought his strange sounding voice of the last year or so was down to him giving up the exotic smokes

I've now seen Paul in Memphis. I feared his voice would not be in good form because it was his 5th show in a week. I was wrong, very wrong. I have heard both nights in Orlando on CD and his voice cracks during Maybe I'm Amazed both nights. However, that is Paul's tribute to Linda. I loved the addition of the Wings songs because these are songs I have never heard live. All Together Now is not my favorite song and I could have done without it. I did not get the full effect of the platform because of where I sat. From a distance, it appears to be cool. I didn't see the waterfall effect because I was off to the side. No complaints on me about Memphis. Enjoyed the concert thoroughly. No empty seats around me. Lots of enthusiasm and fun in my section.
