I thought Paul's original songs meant more to him than that...a bit disappointed to read this. I thought his work is in a sense means everything to him, at least in one major part of his life, his music career.

There a lot of Grunge articles! Still reading some.
I can see Paul's point on the past songs. Many painters, paint new paintings moving into the future. I would imagine that it's the same for musicians. They keep writing new songs moving into the future. They play the older songs at concerts, so happily we get to hear the popular ones again, at concerts! Or you can just make a favorite songs list for yourself
