Tuesday, June 30, 2020 – Today Ringo Starr announced “Ringo’s Big Birthday Show,” a broadcast to benefit 4 charities: Black Lives Matter Global Network, the David Lynch Foundation, Musicares and WaterAid. It will air on Ringo’s YouTube at 5pm PDT on July 7, 2020, Starr’s 80th birthday. The show will include unique home performances as well as never before seen concert footage from Starr, Paul McCartney and Joe Walsh as well as Gary Clark Jr, Sheryl Crow, Sheila E and Ben Harper and more.
“As everyone knows I love gathering with fans for peace and love on my birthday. But this year, I want everyone to be safe at home - so I called up a few friends and we put this Big Birthday Show together so we could still celebrate my birthday with you all, with some great music for some great charities. I hope you will all join me! Peace and Love, Ringo.”
The broadcast will also feature the premiere of a guest star version of Ringo's "Give More Love" that was created to benefit Musicares and features Jeff Bridges, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnette, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Peter Frampton, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Keb Mo and Willie Nelson.
Additionally there will be a playlist of unique tribute performances on Ringo's YouTube channel. This will include musicians who have previously recorded Ringo's songs, performances from past birthday celebrations as well as some new versions which artists will be posting on their socials. Look for musical tributes from Ben Folds, Ben Dickey, Bettye LaVette, Colin Hay, Elvis Costello, Gregg Rolie, Judy Collins, Peter Frampton, Richard Marx, Steve Earle, Steve Lukather and many more.
While Ringo won't be gathering with family, friends and fans at Capitol Records this year for his birthday, he invites everyone everywhere to think, say or post #peaceandlove at Noon their local time on July 7th. Fans are already organizing online events around the world to fulfill Ringo’s birthday wish of a wave of Peace & Love across the planet. Look for details on Ringo’s Facebook page for events starting in New Zealand and ending in Hawaii. Ringo began these in 2008 at the Hard Rock Café Chicago and in 2018 he celebrated the 10th Anniversary at the Hard Rock Café Nice. I wish Paul Mc. had gotten a big blow out like this for his recent birthday, but no doubt he lacked the time for it since he's writing a new musical based on the classic film "It's a Wonderful Life," among other projects. Ringo's really going all out--and he deserves it ! He's a real trooper for many years putting on countless concerts, all over, in the service of music, which for now must come to a halt; and there's that "little thing" of being a member of the world's very first super group The Beatles, which has been called "The Greatest Music Story ever told"--!!!

Wish Paul had recorded a birthday greeting for him. Most of us I'm sure had already seen them doing Helter Skelter at Paul's concert.
What I was wondering last month was why Ringo never said Happy Birthday to Paul on Twitter! ("John" & "George" did)

I was quite surprised and disappointed that there was no personal birthday greeting from Paul.
Admittedly there was no personal greetings from John and George either but at least they had good excuses. -

I wish Paul would loosen up & do more impromptu things like a birthday wish or a song sung from home without a big production like so many are doing now. Have you seen Neil Young's Fireside Sessions from this year? Very cool. Very relaxed. Promo here:

He had plenty of time to film something, everything was prerecorded and it was announced days in advance; they had to know people would want and expect to see him.
Even if he didn't sing something, a little Happy Birthday message would have been so nice. Especially since it's Ringo's 80th (a big one) and his other two Beatle buddies can't send him the love, it is sad that Paul is here and can, but didn't. Paul is always eager to show Ringo some brotherly love, there must be a good reason (though I can't imagine what it would be).

Robert Gannon would call you a "so called fan" for talking like that. He berated Javier Lubelski (another former boardie) on FB for wondering why Paul didn't record a birthday greeting! (This was in a post created by Jen Dodge in the private group Paul McCartney Fanthology) Gannon made 11 posts against Javi in a very mean-spirited way.

McCartney was great for Ringo's 70th birthday when he showed up at Ringo's Radio City Hall concert in NYC and played "Birthday" with Ringo and his band. See link below. I wish they used a clip from that instead of the "Helter Skelter" performance. That being said, not recording even a short birthday message was not a good look IMO. Sheila E was great and I have always like Sheryl Crow so it was good to see her. Got a kick out of all the people who wished "Richie" a Happy Birthday.
