I have to say that I'm enjoying my morning and early evening "bike rides" more than ever especially now when so many of us are stuck at home.  Not only is it great exercise for a senior like myself, but my wife smartly got me a cell phone holder to attach to my bike.  It gives me the ability to listen to great music (with great sound quality to boot) in a "hands free" mode while I can enyoy the fresh air at the same time.

I think many of you know me by now and of course I'm listening to my favorite Beatle and favorite music artist of all tiime.  That doesn't mean I can't also listen to other great artists off my phone as well.  Since even new cars don't have CD players anymore and thanks to my wife, I have accounts with both Spotify and Pandora conveniently from my phone.  It makes listening to great music so easy while doing something so simple as riding your bike.  In short, I'm finding it fantastic.

My favorite phone playlist so far is Spotify's "This is Paul McCartney".  I love the fact that this playlist almost fully concentrates on Paul's Post Beatles' discography.  On my recent bike rides I have been listening to songs like Confidante, Dominoes, Do It Now, One of These Days, The End of the End, This One, Beautiful Night, Every Night, My Brave Face, Too Much Rain,  No Other Baby, Too Many People, Put it There, Great Day, Little Willow, Friends to Go etc etc. These are songs for the most part you never hear on the radio so I'm just loving my bike rides and getting great exercise at the same time.  Never thought I could get such great music while riding my bike hands free thanks to just attaching my phone to a simple phone holder on my bike.  Anybody else listening to music while riding your bike.

Like you, I really enjoy riding my bike although it has been really too hot here. Just found My bike pump and am looking forward to go riding again. My surrounding neighborhoods are quite beautiful and then, there is my favorite destination...the ocean. I really enjoy sitting on a bench on the boardwalk, and listening to the waves. I have a few Paul playlists of post BeaTle songs on my phone, and also enjoy listening to other great music while riding too.

Thanks as always "love2travel".  I live in Florida (north of Tampa) and we are getting our normal "very hot and humid weather".  That is why my wife and I are "riding" in the mornings (between 7 and 8am) and doing our evening rides between 8pm to 9pm.  Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to ride during the rest of the daylight hours.   But we are adjusting and still loving the times we are riding.

While listening to music in our car (and thanks to my wife) I've been listening to many other artists as well.  My new wife had never kept up with Paul McCartney's Solo career  and she is quite surprised how many good to great Paul solo songs she didn't really know.  Conversely, my wife has awakened me to other artists from her playlists.  Lately, we've been listening to one of Pandora's "Soul" playlists and  I'm really liking a singer/musician named Mark Broussard from the Baton Rouge LA area.  Another artist I've been hearing on this Pandora playlist is Paul Carrack.  What a great voice and again I was not that familiar with his Solo songs other than his work with Mike and the Mechanics.   One of my favorite songs right now is Paul Carrack's "Eyes of Blue".  I love this song and his voice.

Congratulations on a new/ renew discovery of your bike.

During the early part of being home, I did a lot of walking. Then I got a new Mountain bike. My old one needed work to be done and would have cost some that got applied to the new one. (I Don't buy that many bikes, but it was time to do so).

I did a few rides probably too far, but really loving what I hadn't done in a long time.

Just when this happened I got the okay from my work place to return full time. So bike riding is now more limited for time and distance.

I have a phone holder, but for now - like walking, I enjoy the sounds of my surroundings and my ride. I do have the option and could try it some time.

I was gladly surprised that some of the rougher bike trails or missing trails were blacktop paved and completed where the trail just stopped. These are rails to trails - really enjoyable. I did notice because of these tmes ... more people on the trails.

This makes me feel like riding now, but I have to finish the work day, then get home, then sometimes I do and sometimes I blob out and just sit or do stuff around the house.

Keep adding more comments when you can.

Thanks for your comments "Fool".  By the way, I love your signature.  "Here There and Everywhere" is one of my absolute favorite Paul songs of all time.  It has everything...great melody and lyrics from beginning to end.  I couldn't believe a few years ago when one of the big music publications had an article on the 100 best Beatle songs.  To my amazement they had "Here, There and Everywhere" somewhere in the high 80's relative to their best songs.  In my opinion, Here There and Everywhere is Top 5 for me.  As much as Yesterday and Something are great songs, I would put "Here There and Everywhere" above them.

You bring up a good point about "walking" as another great type of exercise.  We do a lot of walking too and the great thing about walking is that you can use your cell phone for getting a diverse amount of music just as easily.  Do you use Spotify, Pandora or any other sources for getting your music?

Bike riding, pandemics, and McCartney fans. Well, I started riding a bike again regularly in May and I have rode almost everyday since. Of course, I have my head phones and McCartney dominates my play list. I have a pandemic affinity for Return to Pepperland (the "lost album") that I did not have before the pandemic. For some reason, the song "Squid" has captured my imagination while on bike rides. It is an instrumental but it just goes places, it is like the sunrise. I also really like the 1987 version of "Beautiful Night" but realize that Paul did not know how to end that song as it drags on too long (the ending in 1997 was quite smart).

Not everyone likes me listening to Paul as a biker.  Of course, my wife loves a biker and the biker does like her."

Thanks so much for your responses Thrillington.  I have heard a few songs that were on the Return to Pepperland boot on youtube that I liked.   A couple of questions...how did you buy Return to Pepperland (if you can answer that)?  One of my favorite songs on the Pepperland boot was "Lindiana" a great ballad in my opinion.  I also love the track you mentioned "Squid".    I would love to hear it during my bike rides also.  It's so "uplifting" especially for an instrumental.

What are other songs that you like on the Pepperland boot?  I will have to listen to the 1987 version of Beautiful Night again.  On the other side, I loved the finished Flaming Pie version of "Beautiful Night".   I loved the "ending" to Beautiful Night with Ringo joining in vocally and with George Martin's additonal orchestrations.  Thanks again.

I may have hopped into this thread early because of the bike riding part of it.

Up until now... my bike riding has been my way of getting away from "screens such as phones" and even music as I enjoy the ride or the walk through my surroundings. (* There are some areas of my ride that I may try music for that extra kick or boost)  I have a set of earbuds that allow me to hear the music and the outside world.

I may try music as an option soon. My choices likely would be Beatles and all of them as solo.

Then musically after those choices it can go in many directions including podcasts and talk shows if I can hear it clearly - music when I can't hear it because of background noises. It is easier to hear music when there are temporary interuptions and then quiet again. Talk shows and podcasts aren't as easy when interupted to return to listening.

When I choose to use these options, I use Spotify, Tune-In radio and Sirius. (Apps).

I have walked and talked on the phone too, but as a general thing I like the get away from being connected ... which is why I may not fit in part of this thread.

At this stage of my life, I have limited my runs to around 60 minutes which means I do a little over 7 miles.  I have set up playlists on my IPOD for just my runs and they are as close to 60 minutes I can get.  I like upbeat music when I run so everything has to be uptempo and rock for the most part. My McCartney playlist has things like "About You", "Dear Boy", "Soily", "That Was Me" ,"Home Tonight" and "Run Devil Run".

Florida is great for bike riding, came close to moving there some year's ago. Now thoughts of a winter Condo in the Keys is tempting. The bike riding aspect is great!

Loved Spotify and Pandora especially because of discovering new artists you love!  Unfortunately they have jumped on the fee for service, as has every newspaper in the world that wants yo u to subscribe to read one article! Even have been dumping You Tubes that put ads in the middle of a song or article.

Thanks as always Yankeefan.  Personally, I have a form of fibromyalgia so "running" is out of the question for me so biking and walking are easily  my preferred choices.

I hadn't  used "headphones" so much in the past but as a gift from my wife she got me the cell phone bike holder and an Apple headset for the phone.  I can't believe the improved sound quality from putting those little plugs in your ears.  While I'm riding,  I'm enjoy the slower, mid-tempo and rocker style songs pretty much equally and that is what I've been playing Spotify's "This is Paul McCartney"playlist.  The only songs I have skipped while playing  this playlist (about 80 songs) is when Spotify plays one of their "exclusive" Paul McCartney live performances of a few Beatle songs he did.  I believe this was the show Macca and Band did at  Abbey Road Studios during the Egypt Station promotions back in 2018.  Unfortunately, those specific Beatle "live"songs highlight his current voice which admittedly is poor.  The rest of the songs on their "This Is Paul McCartney" playlist are "studio" versions from all his Post Beatles' remastered albums ranging from McCartney, Ram, Tug, Flowers in the Dirt, Flaming Pie, Chaos all the way up to Egypt Station.  From getting the greatly improved sound, there are a few Macca Solo songs that I surprisingly like even better now and a bunch of Solo songs (like About You, That Was Me etc.) that are missing from Spotify's playlist.  As you know, this why Paul needs a more complete  Solo Anthology on the market.  So many great Solo songs (including unreleased and B-sides etc) are not on his current Compilations including  Pure McCartney, Wingspan, All the Best, Wings Greatest Hits etc. Hope you are doing well.

PS Glad you are enjoying "Home Tonight".

                            See PM.
