Did they pass out the guitar pics?
Nope. No picks at Phoenix either. Paul was amazingly early for Candlestick soundcheck. Check-in was early anyway, from 2:45 to 3:15, and I think at 3:30 we were suddenly told that we had to head down NOW. people had to put down their drinks and grab their stuff and hustle. we had a long way down to the field and we still did have to wait a bit for Paul, but he was done just before 5 which is when the gates were supposed to open, altho I heard they did open later than that. It is a lucky thing that they did get Paul there early...imagine if HE had been stuck in the traffic gridlock!

I just watched the whole show at Candlestick on youtube!!
LOL! Too bad they didn't show all the cars outside the park in the traffic jams.
Well, that would not be as thrilling to watch. I honestly feel badly for those folks, I could not imagine. I would have abandoned my car on the side of the road, and walked to the venue.
Of course not thrilling to watch, I feel bad for them too. Just saying that if they showed the traffic...the ENTIRE picture would be portrayed.
Oh, I agree! I suspect whoever set this camera up was completely unaware about the parking catastrophe. I wonder what percentage of attendees did not make it in? Maybe local news caught footage and did a story. Or maybe Ron Howards people did.
Local news had a piece on it: http://abc7news.com/entertainment/preparations-underway-for-candlesticks-last-show/259189/
Thousands of people!? What a shame.

It's been all over the news here. This same thing happened last year when a concert was held there, yet the city didn't learn the lesson to make sure it didn't happen again

Wow! 6,000 fans missed the show??? If it were 600 it would be Very wrong. But 6,000 is a disaster. That's about 12% of the paying audience who missed the show. Someone is going to pay out big bucks to make this go away.

It's official: Candlestick Park is cursed.

About how many people were at sound check in SF? That has to be the earliest sound check I ever heard about. Glad you made it on time!

Any idea if this show was being filmed for a release? I saw one photo that looked like there might have been some extra cameras.
I suspect what you saw was Ron Howard's crew filming for his movie. But I could be wrong.
I was wondering the same thing, I saw a crane camera towards the back of the field that was busy getting a lot of audience shots, I hope this gets put on DVD

Well, I think about six thousand "extras" may have provided some rather interesting, expletive-filled comments for Richie's doc regarding this marred event.

Yup. 6,000 is a LOT.

Well, I had done a long post but it got eaten when I hit submit, so here is a short version! We got there around 5 after taking a cab, but we didn't make it in time to listen to soundcheck from outside. Got in line right away for the merchandise and we thankfully were able to get two of the Candlestick hoodies before they were sold out, and even by then they were almost all gone! My friend had never been able to sit up close at a Paul concert, so it was nice to see the look on her face when she saw how close we were! We also got to watch a few ladies in front of us that had been to the concert in 1966 get interviewed by Ron Howard's crew, that was fun to watch. The concert was of course amazing/wonderful! Was great to see Paul up there looking so healthy and sounding great. I have never heard "Saw her Standing There" live before, so that was a treat, and I admit, I squealed a little when he busted into "Long Tall Sally" The folks around us were really into the concert as well, and we were spared having any drunk people around us. Since the concert had gone so late, we missed the last train out of the city. Thankfully some friends that were also there were gracious enough to drive us back to the East Bay/my friends car so we didn't get trapped in the city. It did take us an hour to get out of the parking lot. I heard yesterday morning about the traffic/parking fiasco. The city had been talking about this concert since LAST year, plenty of time to plan for this. The same thing happened last summer for another concert at Candlestick, and it's really sad the city didn't learn that lesson and make sure it didn't happen again this year. I'm so sorry for those that were not able to attend the concert because of this

As one of the fans that spent the whole show in traffic 1 mile away from the stadium, I'm still in a state of disbelief and trying to get my $1,000.00 back (which doesn't include the $400 I spent on a hotel that we checking out of at midnight to get the heck home). I've emailed APE and talked to Stub-Hub and TicketMaster and the city of SF -- so far all to no avail. I've demanded my refund from APE and they asked me to email them my proof of purchase and ticket confirmation which I've done. They better respond in the next week. Now I'm considering flying down to San Diego to see Paul's show cuz the hole in our hearts won't be filled with the refund. My concern is that the next show will be as poorly managed? Has anyone ever been to Petco Park? I found a hotel .2 miles away... is it a safe bet that we'd actually be able to see the show this time?? In mourning but trying to find a way "Out There"... yes I said that..lol.. -Mette

Honestly, I would think you would get in this time. And given your bad experience, I bet you would get to the stadium at 10am!!

Forgot to mention: I was wearing my concert shirt to work yesterday and a woman came up to me at the train station to say she had gone as well. She also said they were up on the nose bleed seats and before the concert an usher came up to her and her husband and gave them upgrades to the lower level, saying because they were filming, they wanted to fill up the lower levels. Curious if they were filming an official DVD or if it was for Ron Howard's documentary or both!

I think I remember someone saying there were 230 or so people in sound check and this seems about right. Am so so sorry for those who missed the show. I know I didnt get back to my hotel (5 miles away) till almost 2......but I did see the show.

Thanks! Yes, was on Brian's side. Last year I couldn't really see Paul at the piano very well, so it was nice to have another vantage point!

I think I kinda prefer being off to Brian's side just a touch because your pictures of Paul don't have a mic right in front of his mouth as opposed to when you take pics straight on.

LOL...but he is much better without the mic blocking that wonderful face.
