The age difference is basically the same as the distance between Paul and Nancy. People just get weird about it when it's the woman who is the older one.

You're right - 17 years! Doesn't bother me - more power to a woman in her 50s who attracts a man in his 30s!
P.S. When I talked about "boytoy" and "cougar"earlier I was just saying "This is what people would call them" not what I would call them. The only time it gets to that level would be if the woman was in her 60s or 70s and the guy was young enough to be her son (or grandson!)

It is just not very common seeing man with older woman because let's be "frank", most men are overtly concerned with looks and a 20 year old attracts them more than a 50 year old. Men with younger woman in most cases is all about the money/prestige the man has in his life which some women crave. In this case, it is probably similar and the guy would not have given her 2nd look if she was not fairly wealthy and is famous IMO.

I'm not an HM fan, but for 53 she looks pretty good. Not a lot of men would go for a woman that much older, you're right. One exception is Hugh Jackman. He was born in 1968 like HM and his wife was born the same year as me - 1955! When they met on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli, SHE was the famous one and he was the unknown (1995) They married in April 1996 when she was 40 and he was 27!

So that begs the question was part of the initial attraction that she could possibly help his career since he was "unknown"?

That wasn't the case with them. They were and are truly in love. He fell head over heels for her and finally admitted to her that he had a crush on her. She told him she had a crush on him too. He didn't need her to become successful - very soon after being on Correlli he was being offered parts in Australian movies, plays, musicals, TV shows without any help from her. His career quickly eclipsed hers. She had even advised him AGAINST taking the part of Wolverine in X-Men in 1999!
P.S. He turned down a role on Neighbours (famous Australian TV show) before he even met his wife so he could attend WAAPA (academy of performing arts)
Her career pretty much ended after they married and he got so successful. She has only acted a little and directed some.
Here they are circa 1996:

That is great. I would love to see him in "The Music Man" on Broadwat.

^ I hear everyone loves it! I saw him on Broadway in The Boy From Oz (twice - Mar. & June 2004) and A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig (in 2009) Also saw him perform in Atlanta in his show "The Man. The Music. The Show." (same venue - Philips Arena - that I saw Macca in)

God Bless her and also anyone who can find a soulmate. Age, Smage... what does it really matter if you get along swimmingly!? It's really nobody else's business and who cares what gossips think when you really think about it. We are just getting through Covid... people need to rethink their priorities.
