Eight Days A Week Slower
-
I realized that in just a year, Paul's rendition of Eight Days A Week has slowed and Abe has overpowered him. Barclays Center-- June 8th (best version IMO)
Times Union Center-- July 5th (ok) What is up? -
Wow, that was a noticeable difference!
-
I was going to throw out a zinger and blame the reduced tempo on boredom, but that would've been a cheap-shot. Actually, the second version is truer to the original record, and it's the better tempo.
-
We can work it out always slows way down too I've noticed.

Yeah. It also appears that Abes vocals are overpowering Paul's in most of the others. P

Is he overpowering? Or is it supposed to be doubled, like John and Paul on the Beatles record? I wonder, because I don't necessarily think Paul is supposed to be louder, even though he is the star of the show.

Doesn't Paul now sing the "John" part of the song (the lower part?)

Yeah, pretty much. Abe does sing most of what used to be Paul's harmony part. Abe is very important to the show, boosts Paul's voice, covers for Paul's voice, etc. Plus, he's just such a happy, enthusiastic guy! He always makes me smile! Love Abe!
-
No, Paul is doing all his original parts, except the high harmony on "Hold me, Love me" that is Abe hitting the high part. Other than that, Paul does all the high parts.
-
Agreed.
-
Agree too. Also agree to the fact that Abe is Great! That's the only reason I wish Dance Tonight was not cut...because it showcased Abe for his dancing (LOL) and I guess another reason would be that is is from the last decade!
-
I'm not slamming Abe, he's fucking brilliant!! But if you watch the Barclays June 8th video, Paul is the only one singing, or so it seems. As the tour wore on, Paul has been letting Abe take the reigns. It's not that I don't like Abe, I'm saying that Paul might not be able to do the song anymore.

Oh you are so wrong kiddo.

Well if he needs a backup singer to hit the notes, he can't do it! He did it last year no problem. But this year it sounds like it's gotten much worse. We need Venus and Mars back. With a FULL Rock Show.

If he can't sing Eight Days a Week anymore, he can't sing Rock Show anymore. I think Abe singing with Paul on Eight Days A Week is confusing some things. Yes, the others sometimes double Paul to strengthen his live vocals at some points. But on this song, I honestly think it is merely to "double track" his voice like John and he did on the record.
-
True, but it's also a fact that Abe Jr. is helping out more and more each year, the differences between the chorusses of 'Magical Mystery Tour' through the years are remarkable. No critic, I can't blame him, it's great either way.

Yeah, I agree. I don't take issue with it. At least you are acknowledging it is happening. I have said it before. He is 72 and while he sounds great for his age, he can't keep it at a level like when he was 50. Ringo has another drummer on stage, not because he doesn't know how to play drums (he does!) but at 74 he can't exert the energy he did 25 years ago. Which is fine!
