What do you think of "Fuh You"?

Hi everyone,
I have a question.
What do you think about the song "Fuh You"?
Personally the lyrics shocked me. I didn't expect this from Mr. McCartney. I know that he already alluded to this kind of thing in his songs like in "Spirit of Ancient Egypt". But it's done in a delicate way and not with crude words.
Apart from the lyrics, I find the song itself very beautiful and catchy. I almost added it to my repertoire of songs that I like to play and sing. But the subject matter dissuaded me.
I can play it. But I will never do it in public. I don't assume it.

Whether intended or not, there was explicit sexual innuendo with the song lyric which IMO was embarassing for a man close to 80 to be singing. The song was catchy but I did not think it fit well with the rest of the album. I said it in another post that "Who Cares" would have been better song to release as a single. IMO just as catchy/radio friendly and much better song message ( against bullying) than a man in his late 70's singing about wanting sex.
I understand others like the song as said it went over well live but I guess we may agree to disagree.

I like it a lot, it's fun and catchy, although I wish it had been titled "For You". The lyrics aren't actually crude, it's just that you can mishear the "for you" as... well, something else. I know it's intentional that you can hear the lyric that way, but if he hadn't drawn attention to it by naming the song "Fuh You", I don't think it would be very noticeable, and it wouldn't be an issue.
If you like the song but are hesitant to play it, just sing the lyrics clearly as "for you" (which they really are anyway) and problem solved!

Totally agree with you!!! BIG mistake Paul made agreeing to change the title to "Fuh" You. Should have remained "For" You. Who was that producer on this song? Ryan Tedder! There's some info in here I'd never heard:

I don't think I could express my opinion better.... you nailed it in one, on all fronts... And Who Cares should have been released as the single... carried a wonderful message. As a father of a daughter who has seen the bullying first hand.

I agree with you. After rereading the lyrics, I saw that by changing a single word, the song suddenly became normal again.
I think he should never have listened to this Ryan Tedder. We would have had a beautiful song and not a rag. Sorry for the term.P.S. For the little anecdote, I believed on the spot while reading the title of this song. That it was a Japanese word that simply said "for". So it would be "For You". But when I knew the story and the real meaning. Well... I quickly gave up.

I wonder if they used the young boy (in the video) to try to make people see that it wasn't really sexual.

I think if he had officially named it "I Just Want It For You," then he could have sung it the way he did or wanted to and let people wonder exactly what he said or meant. As officially named, it just comes off as embarrassing and crude and desperate. Poor decison. I finally removed it from the album's playlist. I don't want to hear it...or play it for anyone else to hear.

I don't know, Oobu24. The only thing I can say is that if they had made a suggestive song. It would never have been on YouTube. So think about the image of Mr. McCartney. If he had done that. He would have heard about it for months and months. Instead, they played it safe. At least that's what I think.
It wasn't in their interest to cause a scandal. -

Yes, you are right. I don't think we have said the main thing. Even after reading the link shared by Nancy R. whom I thank by the way. I quickly realised that there is nothing we can do about it.
Otherwise, I liked what you said about Mr. McCartney. That he came across as an old fool. I don't know why, at the same time, the image of the old mad scientist telescoped onto your sentence. It made me laugh out loud.

It's interesting that in "Egypt Station" Paul seemed preoccupied with the "initial attraction" aspects of love... in songs such as "Fuh You" and "Come on to Me". Perhaps he was letting us all know that he's far from dead, and very much alive!
That's Paul though.. a true Gemini with two sides... a steadfast, loyal and totally devoted family man... but with a sparkling sense of fun that's naughty and mischevious...

But in the end, should we be surprised? Considering that Mr. McCartney has already composed songs in the same style as "Fuh You" and "Come on to Me". During the Beatles period as well as the Wings period.
What I wonder. Is, did he learn anything from it?
