I agree with you totally, did not like "Come On To Me " either.  Like you said it was repititous at the end and should have  cut a whole bunch. There is a time and place in your career to sing about having sex or flirting with the opposite sex,  IMO the time is when you are a much younger person and not approaching 80.

But in the end, should we be surprised? Considering that Mr. McCartney has already composed songs in the same style as "Fuh You" and "Come on to Me". During the Beatles period as well as the Wings period.
What I wonder. Is, did he learn anything from it?

I think I have beaten this subject to death so I will simply end with he was much younger man during the Beatles/Wings period.  I think most of us will agree that singing suggestive songs in your 20/30's is a lot different than in your late 70's.  Did he learn anything? Honestly, I don't think he really cares -lol.

Let me just summarize my thoughts on "Fuh You" that I have given several times.

I remember reading a generally favorable review on Egypt Station "early on" by a prominent critic who I repect alot.  He said that he liked most of Egypt Station a lot except for one song..."Fuh You".  He added that Paul's first instinct as he was working out the song lyrics with Ryan Tedder, was that he was "better than this".   Paul went on to say that he's written songs like Eleanor Rigby and Here There and Everywhere and now he's writing a song like "Fuh you.  The critic said (I wish I could find the review) that Paul made a huge mistake by "not going with his initial instinct".  He ended up listening to Ryan Tedder who "promised" that it would reach the younger demographic and be a Top 40 hit.  Well we all know what happened to that prediction...it never materialized.  The various radio stations and formats refused to play it.  I 100% agree with Yankeefan and others that "Who Cares" (and as the B-side "Happy With You") should have been the follow-up to the first single (Double A side..."I Don't Know and Come On To Me".  By the time the record company tried to do more with "Who Cares" and the subsequent video, it was way too late.

Worse than the fact that Paul included "Fuh You" on Egypt Station, Paul and his team continued to try to "make it" a hit.  Paul played it on his tour at every show.  In my opinion, Paul inadvertently took the "focus off" all the wonderful songs on Egypt Station by putting the focus on a lame song (I'm talking lyrically) with "suggestive" lyrics that Yankeefan and others have said.

In retrospect, Paul should have just put out the Ryan Tedder produced songs (Fuh You, Nothing for Free and Get Enough) as a totally separate "Single" and see what it would do.  Egypt Station should have ended up totally as a Greg Kurstin and Paul McCartney Produced Album.  All the advertising/marketing unfortunately focused on "Fuh You" (a suggestive song sung by an famous artist nearly 80 years old) instead of great Egypt Station tracks like "I Don't Know, Happy With You, Confidante, Who Cares, Hand in Hand, Dominoes, Do It Now and Despite Repeated Warnings" etc.  What do all these wonderful songs have in common...Paul never did them on his subsequent tour.  He did Confidante only a couple of times and I believe he never played any of the others.  They are great songs and a few of them are actually "classics" in my opinion.

Everybody makes mistakes including Paul.  He took the advice of a man (Ryan Tedder) who has had a lot of success in the Top 40 Arena but this was just a case where Paul should have listened to himself and his initial instinct.

I do agree that he was unduly influenced by Ryan Tedder. I also agree Come On To Me should not have had that "yes I will" bit in it. Otherwise I liked the song. Reminded me of when he met Linda.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but Who Cares is probably my least favorite song on ES, to me it sounds generic. Fuh You isn't nearly my favorite song on ES or anything, but I actually like it  better than Who Cares. I do think it's true though that Fuh You probably took attention away from better songs like the ones you mentioned, which is unfortunate.

I do wish Fuh You was called For You. I don't like the implied crudeness of that one lyric, but I do like the rest of Fuh You, and I like Come On to Me a lot too.

I don't think Paul feels like he's 79... he probably still thinks of himself as a precocious 50 year old (<---Paul in Buddy Holly glasses.)    That's why he no doubt feels he can get away with writing songs like "Fuh You" and "Come on to Me"... because he still feels the same as when he was 26!  He and Ringo are in excellent health, and feel much younger than their actual ages, no doubt due to their healthy plant based diets and exercise regimens....

For those of us who are in the 60's and older who have grown children, do me a favor. Talk about having sex or flirting with somebody in front of your grown children and let me know the reaction. They will probably respond like "Alexis" from the TV show "Schitt's Creek" and say "ew" to show their disgust/disdain (lol) at somebody our age talking about sex.  Fine for Paul to feel younger than is age but keep this type of thing private with his pretty wife. Just my opinion. Finally, I don't care how good of shape Paul may be in, the does not feel 26 -lol

I've said a lot of this in other threads so I'll keep it short. When I first heard "Fuh You" I hated it. I thought it was a cheap, crass attempt to get a hit single by a guy who was 25 years past any reasonable prospect of having a hit single. I dislike both the cheesy/naughty lyrics and the sound, which felt very calculated to synch with Top 40 radio tastes.

But it's become kind of a guilty pleasure. I still don't admire it, but I enjoy hearing it when I play the album.

That said, I think it was a mistake that this and "Come On to Me" were the most heavily promoted tracks from Egypt Station. Even though "Come On to Me" was Paul's most successful radio song in ages (cracking the top 10 in both the Billboard AC and Triple A charts), I don't think this pair of songs represents the album well at all. Taken out of context they sound like a geezer pretending to be young and hip, and I think a lot of people responded, basically, "Eeewww..." It's a shame people didn't get to hear superior tracks like Dominoes, either in his shows or as radio singles. Sigh...

He'll always be a naughty little boy with a twinkle in his eye, I can totally see him writing songs like "Come on to Me" even into his 90s!   There's still plenty of women who think "Heaven Sent" when it comes to Paul...

Wichita, July 19, 2017 - sign read by Paul

I agree with you totally, did not like "Come On To Me " either.  Like you said it was repititous at the end and should have  cut a whole bunch. There is a time and place in your career to sing about having sex or flirting with the opposite sex,  IMO the time is when you are a much younger person and not approaching 80.

But he's Paul Freakin' McCartney! 😂

Ok Nancy for you, I give him a cutoff date for this stuff at 60 -lol.

Regardless of the lyrics, both Fuh You and Come on To Me were just ordinary songs.... the rest of the album was great!

Fuh You (melodically) grows.... it's semi... OK...  Come on to Me is like listening to sandpaper rubbing against cement. Goes nowhere.

The album wouldn't have hurt with both songs being excluded.

I believe he allowed Tedder to influence him.  Tedder told hime:Do ou want a hit or not? Nevermind that
Tedder would not have inflicted that on his own group...New Republic.  Didn't like Come On To Me much either.  Too repetitious....should have ended in two minutes...just bring in the horns earlier and end it..  That little "Yes I will, yes I will..."interlude was embarrassing.

He'll always be a naughty little boy with a twinkle in his eye, I can totally see him writing songs like "Come on to Me" even into his 90s!   There's still plenty of women who think "Heaven Sent" when it comes to Paul...

I'm with you Leslie! These guys on here are being ageist and discriminating against Paul because he's 79! Just wait until you guys get to be 79 (if you're lucky enough) and see how you feel then! 😉

well, I think the whole point I was trying to make is that Paul has always had a great sense of humor and boyish charm and always finds fun in everything, and that includes the music he makes!

Look at the little waddle he does at the end of this video and you'll get what I'm talking about

Wichita, July 19, 2017 - sign read by Paul

Macca, Makin' the world a little better since 1942

As I have said before, I play tennis 2-3 times a week and sometimes play singles against my nephew who is 45 (I am 69).  I jog and can run 5 miles in 40 minutes which is 8 minute mile pace.  When I go on walks with my wife we walk for an hour together.  I still have a full head of hair and only about 10 lbs heavier than when I got married 34 years ago.  Unlike Paul, I did not feel the need to color my hair when it went gray to feel young - ha ha.

I see plenty of men and women in their 70's playing doubles tennis and pickleball. They are very active and look great for their age.  I am glad Paul feels great and is active at his age, good for him. He has the money to help him age gracefully and no financial worries like the rest of us.  I just don't think it is becoming for a man his age to be singing about sexual things in the manner he did in a couple of songs. BTW - My wife is 5 years younger than me and if she remarks about how good looking some male star/celebrity is they are not in their late 70's -lmao !!  Will just agree to disagree -lol.
