"So I have said as much as I can say about this topic. I just think it would be great for Paul's "legacy" to have so many of thise very good but unknown songs in one collection. I just hope some of Paul's close advisors read this proposal. It's not only viable, it would "sell" well."
IMO Paul only really cares about his "legacy" with the Beatles. He ventured into a solo career because he is incredibly creative and he just loves to perform. He makes a new album, plays a few song from it on tour and than for the most part he forgets about the songs on the album. Meanwhile, every chance he gets he will talk about John Lennon or The Beatles as if the last 40 something years did not happen. While you and I may love this proposal, I don't think it would be a big seller. Paul's fan base is very old and for the most part don't give a darn about his solo music. They are much more interested in the release of "Get Back" for example and seeing him live doing Beatle songs.
I know I am cynical but the only way this type of project might be done is when Paul sadly is no longer with us and his estate wants to do one final thing to make money from his music. Being done that way may make this type of project commercially viable.
Finally, good job BJ on making list and selecting not well known songs and different versions of songs his fans may know.

When you quote something, you can correct it, just like I did above. (you just can't correct your original post after 30 minutes, which I think is dumb!)

Thanks Yankeefan. I really appreciate your opinions. You, Toris and Nancy are the only ones here that seem to be interested on this subject and this possible new Solo project (album calledLeftovers and Rarities). I thought there would be more interest but it appears that for now everyone here is focused on all the "Let It Be" new stuff and Paul's new "Lyric" Book. Not surprised that Paul's new Lyric book is #1 on the NY Times Best Seller List and that the "Let It Be" new repackages are selling well too.
But I'm looking ahead. By Spring of 2022, all the "hoopla" surrounding "Let It Be" will be over. The "sales" surrounding all the "Let It Be" merchandise will be over and they won't remain (in my opinion) as Best Sellers after the initial release and the Christmas Season is long over. Just like the sales for other "Aging Music Artists" have their initial burst, they quickly disappear.
My question is what will Paul do after all this "hype" is long over next Spring. One thing Paul surely could do is "continue" his "Archive Collection" Series. Certainly London Town and Back to the Egg could be Paul's next new Solo Project. I still think that Paul is very interested in his "Solo" Legacy but you can only do one project at a time. That gets me back to my "Leftovers and Rarities" album/cd idea for June of 2022. I think next Spring/Summer would be perfect timing for Paul to release a relative inexpensive CD package focusing on all the good songs that weren't included on any of Paul's original Solo Albums. And as you can see on this Post...there are easily like 80 songs that you could include on this type of package. I could see this easily selling well with good publicity and marketing. As a big time Paul Solo fan, I would love to see it. Think about all those really high quality songs (pretty much relatively unknown) being available in one neat 2 Volume Package (4 Discs total) I would like to see this happen (Leftovers and Rarities) next and then Paul can continue with any individual "Archive" packages he wants. This would certainly "wet the consumers appetites" for future Archive Repackages.
From doing this exercise, I still can't believe how many good to great B-Sides and unreleased songs that Paul has in his overall Discography. in my opinion, these songs deserve to be heard and his best "next" step is to put them out in a CD package like "Leftovers and Rarities". Most even hard core Macca fans don't have the majority of these songs in their collections. Just look at all the great "rare" songs from all those album sessions as well as all the B-Sides that were released jointly.
Thanks for your attention.

First, until I hear otherwise he is probably still working on the musical "It's A Wonderful Life". As the main musical writer of this show, his involvement is necessary until the show hits the stage and opens. Like I said before, musicals will have re-writes and songs added/deleted lots of times during it's journey. In other words, there is stuff to do for this musical after the "hype" is over. I guess we will agree to disagree about Paul's interest in his solo legacy. These projects you mentioned are all about the all mighty dollar/pound -lol. If he was truly concerned about his solo legacy, he would talk about it more in interviews. Basically he may address his current project but will then flip the switch and bring up John Lennon again and again !!! Paul would play more solo songs in his live setlist if he really cared about his solo legacy, not just the songs from his current release. Once again, the re-issues are all about the money due to fancy packaging and add-ons and not his concern over his solo legacy IMO.
"And as you can see on this Post...there are easily like 80 songs that you could include on this type of package. I could see this easily selling well with good publicity and marketing. As a big time Paul Solo fan, I would love to see it."
I guess the key to this is what do you consider selling well. McCartney has not sold well in many years, his new releases have initial burst into the charts and disappear quickly. Correct me if I am wrong but the sales of "Pure McCartney" were not good and that even had songs the casual fans might actually know. Seriously, anytime you mention a project like the one you mentioned, how much interest does it get on a Paul McCartney board? Maybe 5 -10 people might be interested and this is on his fan board. I am sorry but I don't see people clamoring to buy B sides and rare songs even with a great marketing campaign. I have said this a couple of times already a idea like yours should be a limited release and the truly devoted McCartney solo fan might buy it. A limited release cuts the cost and maybe by making the release limited it might gather some attention.
"From doing this exercise, I still can't believe how many good to great B-Sides and unreleased songs that Paul has in his overall Discography. in my opinion, these songs deserve to be heard and his best "next" step is to put them out in a CD package like "Leftovers and Rarities"
I totally agree with you about the quality of the music and I would love them to be heard and appreciated by more people. Once again, I don't see this happening in McCartney's lifetime which is sad. Ok, I am done on this subject. Thanks again for your effort and true love of the Paul McCartney music after the Beatles/Wings.

Thanks again Yankeefan for all of your feedback. As I have mentioned...if Paul is ready for a brand new album (or "It's a Wonderful Life" is ready for this June or even next Fall, that would easily be my first choice. Barring that possibility, this "Leftovers and Rarities" project/idea is what I would like to see. Think about it...all the product is already there in Paul's Vaults or on Youtube etc. It is just a matter of the songs being collected for one neat "new" package. Is it commercially viable is another question that I can't answer. I personally think it is. The tracklist I've listed is extensive and most of the songs have never been released on a previous Compilation or a past original album so I think it would raise a good bit of excitement but I certainly don't know the viability of this sort of project when you consider the "cost" factors etc. As a fan, I think you and I would love the availability of this type of inexpensive package. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Paul and Team do anything special for his *80" Birthday which I think is "monumental" in itself. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Like Yankeefan, I'm about done on this subject.
Just a few added tidbits on "Leftovers and Rarities".
A couple of addlitional songs I had considered for the overall Tracklist:
*"Goodbye" the old song that Paul wrote for Mary Hopkin back in like 1968 or 1969. I love the Demo that all hard core fans have previously heard, but I didn't include it because I wasn't sure of the "legal" ramifications considering Paul wrote it when he was still a Beatle.
* "Lindiana" this song has been on Youtube for quite some time and was remoured to be on the "Cold Cuts" album that never materialized. Paul certainly worked on it so it is a "finished" version. Again, I had considered "Lindiana" because I loved the melody albeit it was a tad too long.
I wouldn't have a problem with either song being on the Tracklist.
______________________________________________________________
As far as which songs Paul and team should single out for possible special promotion/video....here would be my primary choices:
"A Love For You"-- I have always loved this Ram-like Rocker
"Waterspout" -- A very catchy Unreleased track from the London Town Sessions. Love this one.
"Yvonne's the One -- Another one I love because to me it has a Beatle-esque type feel. It reminds me of Paul's old Beatle song "I Will".
"On the Wings of a Nightingale"-- Love Paul's Demo and it has the fact that Paul originally wrote it for the Everly Brothers that made the Country Charts way back in 1984.
"Loveliest Thing" -- Paul originally did this song with Producer Phil Ramone at the helm and with a couple members of Billy Joel's Band and I think it's a fab "hidden" gem.
"This Loving Game" - A B-side to the "Jenny Wren" Single from Chaos and Creation. I love this song and I think it may have commercial appeal.
*Whole Life" - This track was introduced in a "rough track" version on the Flowers in the Dirt 2017 Reissue/Archive ediiton but I think the best version was the finished Paul McCartney and Dave Stewart version on the Nelson Mandella Charity Soundtrack. A great rocker imho.
Just a few that could get some "radio" airplay if they were featured.

A Love For You..... my choice.... I've always loved that song.... never understood why that song didn't get more attention.... even from Paul.
It's a beauty!

Thanks Toris. When I go through Volume 1 and Volume 2 Tracklists, I love the songs overall. Even the hard core Paul fans probably don't have the majority of them in their own collections. Let's hope Paul and Team release something like this next Summer or even the Fall of 2022.
Haven't seen McCall on Maccaboard lately. Normally he would be replying to this type of Post.

Thanks B J Conlee and all who entered this thread it was fun seeing the choices of rarities here for an album idea.
Having them together in a collection is a great idea, even if I have some of them: Why? Because I may have a song on a 45, one on a cassette tape and some form of electronic capture. So... I have to play a record player, a cassette player and find the next one on the computer. What I am getting at is - it would be nice to have them all together with of course the album in hand. On some of the past releases, I only bought one album (meaning album, tape, cassette, download etc...) in a few cases there were bonus tracks that were all different- depending on who and where you bought it. ( This irritated me - by whoever put things out like this). Sometimes I just did without the one song here and the other song there. I did not always buy a "repackaged album" for a song that I had on a 45.
Having them all together would be cool -it made a good thread and it got me to look the songs up, play a YouTube video or dust off one of them and play it. Some interesting reading if the idea is not taken up by those who could make something like this happen.

Thanks Nancy and Toris for your information on Paula Yates. I knew I remembered the name of being the wife of Bob Geldorf.
Maybe Nancy or yourself could post the video of the "live" version of "Only Love Remains" on the British show called the "Tube" from Youtube. Paula Yates introduces Paul just before the video. I would love for the fans to see this video of Linda and Judith Light singing back-up to Paul on this great Press to Play song. Just love Paul on the piano singing this great ballad. The Sax player is also great. Love the little snippet of "Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" at the end.
Here ya go:
This morning I just listened to the video that Nancy posted above. It's the "live" version of "Only Love Remains", originally on the Press to Play album. Love this version and I got a special kick of Paul spontaneously doing the old rocker "Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" at the end. It made me laugh when Paul looked at the camera and was questioning the "chicken by the horn" lyric in this old rocker standard originally done by Jerry Lee Lewis.
Then I listened to a few more videos on Youtube that were also not on the original Press to Play album. The song "Write Away" which was the B-side to the "Pretty Little Head" single is so catchy and funky. It retrospect, it should have been a "hit". I also love "Tough on a Tightrope" and "Yvonne's the One" more extra songs not on the original Press to Play album. I have a theory why the "Press to Play" album sold so poorly. After Ebony and Ivory, Say Say Say, So Bad, No More Lonely Nights, The Girl is Mine etc got so much radio airplay in the early 80's (continuous airplay at times) programers and even fans got tired of Paul's" overly simplistic lyrics and Top 40 like sound. In retrospect, by the time Press to Play was released, people were far less interested. Now looking back, Press to Play in my opinion is one of Paul's most "underrated" albums. Songs like Tough on a Tightrope, Only Love Remains, "Write Away" and "It's Not True were big surprises to my ears. That is one reason why the "Leftovers and Rarities" idea for an album in 2022 makes so much sense imo.
The other "Sessions" album with all kinds of "extra songs and leftovers" was during the "Off the Ground" sessions. Another extra song like "I Can't Imagine" and Sweet "Sweet Memories" (that I did put on "Leftovers and Rarities") is "Keep Coming Back to Love" which I also love.
Finally "Chaos and Creation" had a bunch of good to great extra songs that didn't make the final cut on the original "Chaos and Creation" album.
For all of these reasons (and there are more examples) the Tracklisting for Leftovers and Rarities are not just "ok"or "afterthought" type songs, they are as I say...Very good to great imho. That is why I think Paul "needs" this album for his own legacy. How many artists have like 80 songs that he left off the original albums!
Thanks

BJ, Paul sang the lyric wrong and was repeating his mistake and laughing about it.

Most definitely needed! A rarities and leftovers multi CD album. This is always such a big topic of discussion with my PM fan friends. We always say so many of our favorite songs are in this category. I would also dare to say that some of the songs he gave away, should be on this. Not to forget the ones associated with movies, animations and songs like Hope for the Future and Love Song to the Earth

I don't think alot of the songs on page 1 should be on this only because theyve already been released on Archival Releases, as well as songs that have yet to be released on future Archival Releases such as "Cage" and etc. Than there are also songs that have been released as bonus tracks on albums like NEW, Chaos, Egypt Station and other 2000's albums. I can see an Off The Ground Archival Relases with Complete Songs as bonus tracks. Also songs that should be included are soundtrack songs, one off guest appearance album, tribute albums, random relases digital singles and etc
I'm including the CD singles from Chaos some of them have been released in other countries, and im not sure if we'll get a Press to Play Archive

^ Don't you mean "I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra," "All My Trials" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reggae?"
(I realize a couple of these were probably just typos)

Thanks "Darkhorse" for your feedback. As I mentioned, you can always qibble over a few songs that were omitted but I think as a whole it is a terrific list. The main thing that for even hard core Paul fans, it would be so nice to have all these songs in one neat package. "Fool" made a great point. He has a big collection of Paul's music but he has many of the "rarity" type stuff in different formats so to have them all in "CD" would be very convenient for him. And for fans of Paul in general who don't have deep Paul collections (other than the original Paul Solo albums) this would be a great relatively inexpensive package. I also realize that Paul and team might do future "archive" packages for albums like London Town, Back to the Egg etc but an overall inexpensive package like "Leftovers and Rarities" would just "wet the appetite for future Archive collections. I'm a huge Paul fan but I have never bought the big "Archive" sets mainly because they are too expensive for me. Unfortunately, I don't have an unlimited budget for these big packages.
Looking at your list, there are a few, in my opinion, that would make excellent additions. I love the "Maybe Baby" (the old Buddy Holly song) version that was in a movie (I forget the name of the movie) that Paul and Jeff Lynne produced. I love that faster unique version that would be a great addition imo. Some of the others I had considered but frankly, I didn't think they were that good. I'm thinking of songs like "Spies Like Us, Tropical Island Hum, Did We Meet Somewhere Before, A Room With a View, It's So Easy, and a few of the Fats Dominoe and Elvis Presley covers you mention. Again, music is subjective, but I was going more for Paul written or jointly written songs or really great and "unique" covers that Paul did at the Cavern during his Run Devil Run period.
I would have no problem with a few additions that you mention above like Vanilla Sky, All My Trials, and especially Once Upon a Long Ago. The last song had little exposure in the US so that would be a good addlition and it has a good "Christmas" feel that would be a good "last" track on a particular CD.
Other than that, many of the extra songs you mention (that aren't on the original Chaos, Memory Almost Full, Egypt Station and Press to Play albums) are already on my list. I have also included the "movie" songs like I Want to Come Home and In the Blink of an Eye as well as special soundrtrack songs like Simple As That and Cut Me Some Slack. As I said, I think my list all in all is pretty good but there are always a few songs you could add. The main point is how convernient it would be to have a package like "Leftovers and Rarities"for even harder core fans. It would also show just how incredible Paul's Post Beatle Discography is. To have like 80 extra songs (not on original albums) just shows how prolific Paul has been.
Thanks again for your imput.

"Darkhorse" gave me another thought. While I put my list together pretty much in chronological order (more for my convenience), you certainly could mix the "running order" for all kinds of reasons. Here is an "off the cuff" running track order that I like. I like the fact that right up front (Disc 1) you could highlight songs that are truly "leftovers"and in many cases in Demo forms. Here goes:
Leftovers and Rarities
Volume 1 (Disc 1)
1. Flying to My Home (great rocker that was never on the original Flowers in the Dirt album)
2. Yvonne's the One (unreleased and great "unknown" song)
3. I Can't Imagine (another great unknown song from the Off the Ground Sessions)
4. On the Wings of a Nightingale ( Paul's Demo wrijtten for the Everly Brothers)
5. Loveliest Thing (Another great unknown song where Paul worked with Phil Ramone and members of Billy Joel's band)
6. Give Ireland Back to the Irish (great rocker and banned protest song)
7. This Loving Game (Great leftover never on the original Chaos and Creation album)
8. The Pound is Sinking (Great Remixed Tug of War track)
9. Daytime Nightime Suffering (Great B-side)
10. Back on My Feet (Great B-side to "Once Upon a Long Ago); I love the Demo version)
11. Put It There (love the "live" version on Tripping the Live Fantastic)
12. Rainclouds (great B-side not on the original Tug of War Album)
13. Country Dreamer (another great B-Side not on the original Band on the Run Album)
14. Only Love Remains (great "live" version and different from the Press to Play album cut)
15. Tough on a Tightrope (great extra track not on the original Press to Play album)
16. I Owe It All To You (great "live" version from the Ed Sullivan Theatre MTV Concert)
17. Cage (unreleased song from the Back to the Egg Sessions)
18. My Brave Face (great remastered opening track from Flowers in the Dirt)
19. A Love For You (Best version from the "In Laws Movie Soundtrack")
20. Thank You Darling (great rarity with just Paul and Linda; Paul added a great "Kazoo" to this song
21. That Day is Done (Paul and Elvis Costello original demo)
22. The Lovers that Never Were (Paul and Elvis Costello original demo; much better than Off the Ground studio version)
23.Waterspout (unreleased and great extra track from the London Town Sessions)
24. Sally G (great B-side to the Junior's Farm Single)
25. My Soul (great rare track that Paul did with NItin Sawhney and on the London Undersound Album)
26. Wanderlust (track taken from the Give My Regards to Broadstreet Soundtrack with a snippet of Here There and Everywhere at the end)
27. Hope of Deliverance (great "live" version taken from the Ed Sullivan MTV concert; better than the Off the Ground studio album version)
This is just an example of how you can mix the sequence of this proposed "Leftover and Rarities" album. Just a mix of demo's, B-Sides, unreleased and great "live versions" that shows the greatness of Paul's overall Discography. This would be a great collection to celebrate Paul's 80th Birthday in June of 2022.

Regarding the unreleased songs. The choices here are based on unreleased songs that have leaked out on bootleg over the years.
However there are many more that we know exist in terms of sing titles, or ones that have been mentioned in interviews that we don't know the titles off. And in Paul's archive will be many many more that we know nothing about. For example when winter comes had never been heard of until mccartney 3
