Set List critique

I’m taking my 8 year old daughter to see Sir Paul tomorrow in Austin for the first time and both of us couldn’t be more excited. My dad took me to see him when I was about her age in Dallas for the “Trippin the Live Fantastic” tour and I’ve seen him about seven times since then. It’s always an amazing show and I feel blessed to be able to share my love with my daughter.
I was wondering if anyone knows why Yesterday got dropped from the setlist for ACL? Think he’ll change things up for the second weekend? I seem to remember him changing a song or two at Coachella from one weekend to the next? I assume he has some time constraints since it’s a festival and maybe some songs don’t work as well in this setting as they do in an arena?
Can’t wait for tomorrow night!

He usually doesn't do "Yesterday" at festivals. I don't know why, but he just doesn't.

Some good ideas here.
As far as the soundcheck in terms of saving his voice, as a singer, the soundcheck is necessary to warm up his voice for the concert. It actually helps.
My Valantine absolutley needs to go. It was really cool seeing the Grand Central Station version, but then he's playing the same old version on tour? Like one poster said, playing "Happy With You" off Egypt Station and dedicating that to Nancy is 100x better. That's probably my 2nd favorite song off ES.
In Spite Of All The Danger and 4/5 Seconds need to GO!!
Hopefully when the tour starts in the U.S. next year it will get a proper FRESHEN up. AHDN was a great opener, but it's time for a new one. I'd vote for Help!
I posted a set list awhile back, but I think Paul should play Despite Repeated Warnings. My favorite from ES. It could start at the grand piano, then Paul jumps down to the main mic with a guitar or bass, like he does with Golden Slumbers. Then it goes into full Band On The Run mode with a Mr. Kite production, "how do we stop him, grab the keys and lock him up!" If Paul wants to be controversial, he could have images of Trump behind him on the big screen like Roger Waters did for "Money" on his recent tour. Abe has plenty of regular things to say about Trump on his twitter. Paul could then go into "C'mon People" from Off The Ground. And then into "Let It Be" etc. etc.
Personally, "Who Cares" is my least favorite song off ES. But that's just my opinion.
Rather than wish for songs like "Young Boy", "Rinse The Raindrops" or "When I'm Sixty Four" to make their way to the set in 2019, I'd take songs he's played in the past to Freshen Up the set such as the rare played "Another Girl" or past songs like "The Night Before", "Two Of Us", "Bluebird", "Fixing A Hole", "Mrs. Vandebilt".
And I don't know about anyone else, but I could use a little more cowbell on Live And Let Die. I'm telling you, Pablo... you're gonna want that cowbell in the mix.

Funny how us fans differ on songs. I think "Who Cares" is one of the best songs on ES and it works great live. Great lyrics, great message and it rocks.
Hopefully when Paul comes back to the US in mid 2019, he would have had plenty of time to practice more ES songs with the Band for that portion of "Freshen Up". I've given up on Paul playing songs from past Solo albums but there is no reason not to play more ES songs. On top of what has already been listed, I would love to hear:
People Want Peace - a great song where the crowd can easily join in
Happy With You - as I mentioned before, the new tribute song for Nancy
Dominoes - what a song and would be great live
Hunt You Down/Naked/C-link - perhaps a great closer with the full band
I Don't Know - great piano ballad to add
Do It Now - another great piano ballad
Get Started - what a song and I don't realize why it wasn't on the proper album.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind if he dropped "Fuh You" and "Come On To Me" by then. There are so many good to great songs on ES.

Don't see him dropping those two songs BJ especially when one was a single. I will be shocked if he does not add "Who Cares" back into the set list. I am kind of surprised "I Don't Know" is not in the piano part of the show, once again it was a single. Wish I did not just get the "proper" album, would love to hear "Get Started".

I believe he means "NEW," not the most recent new album. I tend to agree with him. Most of the songs have been done to death. Paul has his idea on what people who attend his concerts expect or want to hear...but many of what he chooses don't necessarily fit that criteria. And certainly not for the 100th time! Some he just can't sing anymore...."Maybe I'm Amazed." Please stop doing this song....or make it a soft acoustic number. There are scads of Beatles' songs people are aware of....do 'em!!!! Change it up! Just an opinion, folks!
I actually thought Maybe I'm Amazed sounded fine in Austin. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da was the one that he really struggled with

Next stop for Paul is Japan and then on to Europe and USA in 2019, do we think that they'll be any more changes? I for one would think that AHDN would be switched around since he has played this at these same venues he will be visiting again like in 2016/17. Also 'And I love her' is not in the show since being there for many years! probably due a much needed rest.
Some predictions;
new opener ( anything except Magical Mystery Tour please! )
One or two more from ES album to be added
a few Songs from past tours (as mentioned earlier) plenty to choose from; Fixing a Hole, Penny Lane, Your Mother should know, Good Day Sunshine, One after 909, Another Girl, Mrs Vandebilt.

my guess is he'll swap in a couple of the normal swap ins for Japan (Drive My Car, All My Loving, Got To Get You Into My Life, etc). I would not be surprised at all if he plays Penny Lane in Liverpool, especially since he didn't in 2015.

I wish he'd bring back some of the Beatles songs he only played for a short time like The Night Before, Another Girl, Your Mother Should Know, Things We Said Today, Here There and Everywhere, I'm Looking Through You, etc. He could really "freshen up" the set with some of these. Say, for example-
A Hard Day's Night
Junior's Farm
The Night Before
Letting Go
Who Cares /Come On To Me/Let Me Roll It/I've Got A Feeling/My Valentine
Here, There and Everywhere
1985
Maybe I'm Amazed
I'm Looking Through You
Things We Said Today
In Spite of All The Danger
(current set through Here Today)
Your Mother Should Know
Queenie Eye
Lady Madonna
Eleanor Rigby
Fuh You
etc...
Would barely require any new rehearsal for the band
-
Here is Paul being interviewed onstage by a Japanese lady during rehearsals in Edmonton. She asks him to play "Back In Brazil" at the concerts in Japan and he says he'll have to learn the song. He also teaches her how to pronounce "freshen up" and shares some interesting stories.
-
I have found this news about "Revolution". Seems that Paul have played it during the David Bonderman's 70th birthday party.
It's true for you? Have you others notice about it?

Other possible changes could be:
-open with a different opener every two or three shows so it would be more a surprise
-"Your Mother Should Know" on his magic piano instead of "Lady Madonna" sometimes
-"Back In Brazil" rather than "Obli di Obla Da" for some venues, or play them both
-"Bluebird" instead of "Blackbird" at least a few times
-"Spies Like Us" instead of"Inspite of All the Danger" I've always found the former zippy & fun, bouncy
-Play "Two of Us" right after "I've Got a Feeling" or vice versa, now and then
-Keep "Junior's Farm"
-"Big Barn Bed" would be a crowd pleaser and go along with the "Junior's Farm" era
-Play "Please Please Me" instead of "From Me To You" a few times, or have them both
I don't fancy "I Feel Like Letting Go" all that much for some reason, but like the way he did it at the Grand Central Station pop up show...it was a somewhat lighter breezier bit speeded up version I thought and I noticed the intricate guitar picking parts more
"Here, There, and Everywhere" is a nice idea...performed after an all out raving rocker song for a striking juxtaposition or change of pace, for contrast
-"Revolution" would make quite a statement given these current fraught political times and all the hair-raising problems in the U.S., especially, for U.S. shows
-He could bring back "My Love" for another nod to Wings, and Linda
-how about "Beautiful Night" 'cause nights of his concerts always are. So special. Preface it by saying, "Isn't this a beautiful night?" or something like that
-play "Who Cares" and "Caesar Rock" "Happy With You" and The " Hunt You Down Naked C-Link" medley from the glorious "Egypt Station" interspersed with the older numbers, sprinkled among them

Band on the RunLove it and while we know it will never happen it is nice to dream - lol. The sad thing is that he has so many good solo songs he never played live and most people will never hear these wonderful songs. It is amazing to me he never did songs you mentioned like "Ever Present Past" and "Run Devil Run" for example. They would be great live and even if you did not know them I think you would like them if he played it in his show. I have listed solo songs I would have loved him to play live that he never or rarely did before but will list some of them again. I am not listing any Egypt Station songs because I will wait to see what he winds up playing from it next year.
Promise To You Girl
House of Wax
That Was Me
Dance Til We're High
Dear Boy
Little Willow
About You
I Can Bet
Take It Away
Too Much Rain

Paul sang "That Was Me" in concert in Paris, France, some years ago. I saw parts of that concert online, including that song. The only time he has performed "That Was Me" live in concert, I think.

I got that wrong, duckie, it was actually the sophisticated-sounding pop song "Ever Present Past" from "Memory Almost Full." "That Was Me" has a similar theme. I misremembered, but then realized my mistake.

Band on the RunI had typed that as a list, one song per line, and I don't know why it all got mushed together. Now that I try to quote it it seems to be looking normal. This site baffles me sometimes.

He actually did play "That Was Me" at a handful of pop-up promotional shows for MAF, including the Amoeba Records show in L.A. I actually don't think he played "Ever Present Past," though personally I'd be happy if he played both (or any of 100 other songs we never get to hear; I could easily make up a whole other set list of rarely-played stuff that would also be great).

According to this, he did 3 other songs at the Amoeba show, but not “Ever Present Past.”
