I said this in another post.  The reason for Paul and Band to do the McCartney 3 songs like Seize the Day, Find My Way, Slidin, Women and Wives is because the "live" versions would be different than the original album with the full Band.  This difference makes the tracks saleable on a Compilation CD because they are a little different.  I liked what Rusty did to Women and Wives with his electric guitar solo.  Think of how Find My Way for example would be different with the "live" horns.  Think how Slidin would be enhnaced with Rusty and Brian's guitars.  Think how Seize the Day would be different with the full band.  I'm not sure why Paul isn't taking advantage of this great Band by playing McCartney 3 songs in his Setlist as a "Full Band".  I'm not saying all of the McCartney 3 songs but at least the 4 I mentioned.

I agree 100%, those songs could be awesome with his band and horn section. - oh well.

Setlist aside, Paul looks great on this tour.  Sharp jacket and vest are a really cool look. He also looks more like he did in the 90s and not so super thin as in more recent years.  And vocally he still sounds good on some songs, certainly way better than anything Jon Bon Jovi can pull off these days.  Bon Jovi live now sounds like they've got Katherine Hepburn on lead vocal.

I was out all yesterday afternoon doing errands with my wife and I noticed how Maccaboard lit up after Paul's "You Gave Me the Answer" Got Back Setlist article appeared yesterday morning.

Some interesting responses from fans.  My first reaction was that some fans have to be realistic.  Someone was pushing for more Ram Songs.  I get it but you have to remember that Paul was like in his early 30's when he recorded Ram and he has been incessantly touring for like 50 years since Ram.  The  problem is that Paul couldn't sing well most of the songs from Ram with his current voice.  I keep going back to the fact that in my opinion Paul sings best on songs from his more recent albums.  It makes sense since during the recording of those songs on McCartney 3, Egypt Station, or New... Paul had his "older" voice.

I noticed that vocally Paul sounded real good on "Womens and Wives" (from McCartney 3) in Spokane the other night.  He also sounded good on "My Valentine" (from the "Kisses" album) as well as "Come On To Me" from Egypt Station.  I think Paul is confused about what the hard core fans want.  We don't mind that his current Setlist is Beatle heavy but what we want are different choices of his newer songs on this "Got Back" tour than what Paul and Band did in 2018/2019.  For example, on his tour 3 years ago he did "Come On to Me" and "Fuh You".  Instead of those recent songs, give us "I Don't Know" or "Dominoes" also from Egypt Station.  He did "I Don't Know" on several Soundchecks in 2019 and looking at the Youtube video from the Soundcheck in Glasgow in 2019, he sounded real good.  Instead of "Fuh You" now give us "I Don't Know" which is, in my opinion, a way better song.  I think "I Don't Know" is one of his very best Solo songs ever.  And give us more than 1 song from his latest album McCartney 3.  I think Paul can  sing these new songs better now than some of the old songs because Paul did the McCartney 3 songs with his older voice.  The other thing is that it would so cool to hear "Seize the Day", "Slidin" and "Find My Way" with the full band including the horn players.  They would be a little different than what you got on the album.

That is all we're hoping for.  You don't have to change the whole setlist.  The last thing that would help if you change a few of the 2nd tier Beatle songs (not signature songs like Blackbird or Hey Jude) that you have done on the last few tours to different Beatle songs this time around.  Instead of Mr. Kite or In Spite of All the Danger, think about songs like Rocky Raccoon, I Want to Hold Your Hand, or Two Of Us.  Think about Beatle songs you have never done or rarely done on previous tours.  This would make "Got Back" a little better for your biggest fans and "Beatle Only" fans would love them too.

I agree! This is a great opportunity to share these views and opinions and this one really makes sense because it safisfies everybody 🙂 I will also write something tonight, to express my own view on this topic. I also think he should make other choices in general (more solo stuff and don't stick to certain  songs so long). But besides that, I also wish he'd do more songs that fit with recent events, like Ukraine. I think Paul is someone who could bring people together with his music and I would really love it if he'd play a song like Hope of deliverance. With a good introduction, this kind of addition could really make the concerts even more special than they already are. I also hope he does make the Glasto concert a bit special...

Yes, no more coughing. But when it rains, it pours. My CT scan was okay as far as no tumors in my lungs or heart, but it picked up a thyroid nodule, so now I have to see an endocrinologist! Also scheduled a fluoroscopy of my chest to see real-time movement of my diaphragm and lungs - on my birthday - May 11th - great present! 🙄

Hey Nancy...hope everythng turns out ok with your tests.

By the way, I did send another response back to the "You Gave Me the Answer" article.   Hopefully, we'll see some minor adjustments to the Setlist in the next few shows.  Oakland is next for tonight and Sunday.

Was this basically the post you wrote in You Gave Me The Answer on paulmccartney.com that got deleted?

                            Repost it!

Good idea Nancy.  By the way, are you feeling any better?

Yes, no more coughing. But when it rains, it pours. My CT scan was okay as far as no tumors in my lungs or heart, but it picked up a thyroid nodule, so now I have to see an endocrinologist! Also scheduled a fluoroscopy of my chest to see real-time movement of my diaphragm and lungs - on my birthday - May 11th - great present! 🙄

                            Sending good thoughts, Nancy!

Although I was skeptical about Paul going out on tour with his weakening voice, the clips I've seen posted online from the first Oakland show sound way better than he did in Spokane. He'll never sound like he did 20 years ago, but mostly he seems to be coming across okay.

Now that we are about half -way through Paul's US 2022 "Got Back" tour, here are my thoughts so far.  Even though I'm not going to any of the shows, as a big fan, I'm  keeping up with all the shows.  More than anything I'm especially interested in the reviews and what critics are saying.

Maybe not a big surprise, the reviews (from the Winston Salem show and all the others before) have been very favorable.  Again, that hasn't surprised me since the reviewers appear to be more "entertainment" writers and not hard core "music critics".  They look at these shows more from a "nostalgic" view than anything else and they look at Paul as the biggest act in the whole "Rock/Pop" Genre.  Afterall Paul was and is the biggest star in the whole category.  The other part of the reviews at this point is Paul and his Band's overall "performance".  So far they have been very favorable.  While they subtlely mention the state of Paul's current voice, the overall verdict is not negative.  The big question they ask is "what would you expect from the man who is just about 80 years old?  Overall the voice is not a problem and this is "the show"( if you can afford it) you should be attending  above all others.

As a big time and "hard core" fan however and who has attented about 12 shows over the years, I personally and  easily can  be critical of this current tour.  Here are my top 5 reasons I'm not crazy about the "Got Back" tour.  I understand that for first timers and casual Beatle/Solo Paul fans this is no doubt a great show, but for the hard core Paul fans in particular, it is disapponting for  these reasons:

                                1. the total lack of songs from Paul's last Solo album (McCartney 3).  Paul only does 1 song from McCartney 3 (Women and Wives) and now he only does this song at ever other show.  Disappointing to me because he doesn't even do the best songs from the album.  Where is "Seize tlhe Day", "Slidin" or "Find My Way"?  McCartney 3 had Grammy nominations and the critics were very posiitive.

                                2. he does very little from his 2nd most recent album "Egypt Station".  What we do get are quite possibly (at least for me) the 2 worse songs on Egypt Station and the 2 same songs that Paul did on his last tour.  I'm a big fan of Egypt Station and there are "true" great songs on that album.  Where is "I Don't Know", "Dominoes", "Happy With You" that he has never done live.  He did do "I Don't Know" at rehearsals during the last tour and they sounded very good .  Why he doesn't do all three of these songs (and possible more) on this tour just blows my mind.  If I was attending any of these 2022 shows and he didn't do them I would be very disappointed.

                                3. whare are some other "Solo" songs that he's never done before.  For example, where is "Little Willow", "Early Days", "Wanderlust" etc etc.  These are not just good songs but they are "great" songs that casual Beatle/Paul fans should know much better.

                                4. even on Paul's Beatle song "choices" where are the ones that he has never performed before.  Where is "Rocky Raccoon", or "I Want to Hold You Hand?  Besides those 2, I would love to hear "For No One", "I Will", "Penny Lane" "Here There and Everywhere" again because he rarely chooses them.

                                5. the setlist for me is rather stale.  Why he chooses "In Spite of All the Danges", "Mr. Kite", "Let Me Roll It", "Let 'm In"again baffles me.  For hard core fans, these current shows don't really offer "real surprises" in my opinion.

As big of an artist that Paul McCartney is, his Post Beatles' career in my opinion is very underrated and diminished.  Paul himself add to this "general" opinion.  He has toured extensively from 1989 to 2022, and he continues to shortchange his great "Solo" career.

This is almost shocking to me because he used to do at the very least 2-3 songs from his most recent album. The album was a critical success and I find it hard to believe people even if they did not know the song "Find My Way" would not enjoy it.

"2) he does very little from his 2nd most recent album "Egypt Station". He did do "I Don't Know" at rehearsals during the last tour and they sounded very good"

Excellent point. Another critically acclaimed album and he has the chance to do something different from it and does the same songs as the last tour. The last tour he could say he wanted to promote those songs since they were "singles" at the time, there is no need to promote them now.

"3) whare are some other "Solo" songs that he's never done before.  For example, where is "Little Willow", "Early Days", "Wanderlust" etc etc.  These are not just good songs but they are "great" songs that casual Beatle/Paul fans should know much better."

"Little Willow" is a beautiful song that would be awesome during the acoustic set, such a shame the general public is not aware of this song. "Early Days" would be good tribute song for John Lennon and he could swap it out with "Here Today" every other night for something different.

"4) even on Paul's Beatle song "choices" where are the ones that he has never performed before.  Where is "Rocky Raccoon", or "I Want to Hold You Hand?  Besides those 2, I would love to hear "For No One", "I Will", "Penny Lane" "Here There and Everywhere" again because he rarely chooses them."

The audience would go nuts if he ever did "Rocky Raccoon" or "I Want To Hold your Hand". His opening song "Can't Buy Me Love" does not start the concert with extra buzz like "Hard Days Night" for example".  Opening with "I Want To Hold Your Hand" would have gotten him millions of "hits" on youtube IMO.

"5) the setlist for me is rather stale.  Why he chooses "In Spite of All the Danges", "Mr. Kite", "Let Me Roll It", "Let 'm In"again baffles me.  For hard core fans, these current shows don't really offer "real surprises" in my opinion."

In what universe does Paul live in that he believes that first timers before the concert are saying they hope he plays "In Spite Of All Danger" or "Benefit Of Mr. Kite".  His concerts are not for "hard core" fans, it is all about the first timers.

"As big of an artist that Paul McCartney is, his Post Beatles' career in my opinion is very underrated and diminished.  Paul himself add to this "general" opinion.  He has toured extensively from 1989 to 2022, and he continues to shortchange his great "Solo" career."

Music critics think Paul's solo career especially in this century has been outstanding and marvel how he is still an excellent and prolific song writer at almost 80 years old. Sadly, it is the general music fan who is basically clueless of that great music and he will be only be "Beatle Paul" in their eyes. It is very sad to me his solo career is not known better but I believe  fans like you, me and few others on this board like his solo music more than Paul - oh well.

I agree, not surprised by the reviews. As long as his voice is not horrible, they will gush with praise. Entertainment writers will say things like he is doing songs from his entire career but will fail to mention how few are after 1980.  Since a bunch of these shows are in places Paul has not ever played or been there in a long time, these same writers are unaware that set list is being basically repeated over and over again. They will marvel at the "fireworks for "Live And Let Die" like this is something new even though it has been seen on TV with hundred million viewers at the Super Bowl years ago. They will laugh at stories than have been told for 10-20 years night after night because they do no research. Even a hardened music critic is not going to "bash" Paul at this stage, they will write about it is a wonderful nostalgic night  with a musical icon. If there is any criticism, it will be gentle dig at his voice is "weathered" and his set list is a bit stale.  I said it years ago and will repeat it one more time, I could write the same review as most of these writers without attending the show -lol.

Thanks and Great points Yankeefan to my post.   I think you are the only one to have replied to what I said about his recent shows and setlist.

I still ask myself...how does Paul get away with it?  He is "selling out" all the venues in this "Got Back Tour"despite the very high prices. One answer for sure is that we're not the average McCartney fan (you and I and other members on this Board).  We know his entire career and discography "in and out".  We're certainly more "hard core" than even many of these "entertainment" writers...They are more writing for the fans in attendance than  being "critical" of what songs he chooses to play.  They are looking to give the locals (especially in the area where the concert is held) the overall entertainment value that Paul McCartney gives to this audience.  No one is thinking...how could this show be better or what songs  or what era is he missing?

The best article/review I have read in the last few days about this current tour is from Forbes Magazine by Steve Baltin who is a true "music critic".   He attended the Sofi Stadium Show in Los Angeles.  Perhaps you or someone else could post this review on our Site!

No... Steve Baltin didn't dissect this Show like "hard core"fans like us would.  But he did answer my question (How does Paul McCartney get away with all the repetition of songs and stories from past tours etc).  He answers it best with his article's title..."Why the eternal optimism of Paul McCartney never goes out of style".  This article/review answers our question better than any other writer I have seen at this point.  Rather than me rehashing  the contents of the Forbes' article, the best way for everyone is to post a copy of the article.  It is not long and is very well written in my opinion.  Because I'm not very tech oriented, I would apprreciate someone's help.  I think you and everyone else would appreciate what Mr. Baltin from Forbes said.

Thanks again Yankeefan for your comments.

It was nice article by Mr. Baltin and cool that he called the band "superior". I think Paul concert is great escape in these turbulent times, master showman and brings us back to the memories of our youth. This is why people will pay out big money to see him plus they sadly know the end is in sight. The difference between you and me for example and the first timers is we are looking more from Paul artistically in a concert than the first timers. We have been fortunate to have seen him 5-6 times and when is voice was at his vocal peak so we want more from him than the standard Beatle hits.

See link attached. BTW - The "Mods" don't want articles to be cut and pasted in post.

Why The Eternal Optimism Of Paul McCartney Never Goes Out Of Style (forbes.com)

Thanks so much for the above article Yankeefan.  I loved the article and as I said, it does answer why Paul continues to sell out these current shows even at very high prices.  Yes, i probably have overlooked his "master showmanship" quality of his "live" shows.  Even for people who have seen Macca's  past tours several times, he gets by with his uncanny ability as a performer to get people to feel that Paul McCartney is an "everyday" type person.  They will continue to see him multiple times.

I'll never forget the first time I saw the Stones in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Arena.  While it was a great show, I didn't, in anyway, felt like  I knew Mick or Keith (or the other bandmembers) after the show.  They hardly said anything throughout the Concert.  They were playing the "Rock Gods"for the most part.  While hard core Paul fans like you and me get tired of McCartney's  same songs and stories, I totally understand that for first timers and casual fans, they eat up the stories told from an actual Beatle himself.  They also walk away like they know this Billionaire Music artist (the richest) because he is an "everyday" type guy.  I think the Forbes writer said it perfectly.

Hey, my wife and I are in Atlantic City NJ and we are now only a week away from going to Vancouver and our Canadian Rockies vacation.  I'm sure you're feeling similar with your Alaska trip.
