"There were several instances on The Flower Power cruise, where because of Covid, for example, Bob, the original drummer for Jefferson Starship, couldn't play (he sent a video message from his cabin and later they took him to hospital on St. Martaan) so with 2 days notice a guy filled him for him (get this: the guy's day job is a blacksmith!)"

A funny story. One time I ran into a guy in the bar of RC ship that was part of the RC orchestra. After talking for a few minutes, he told me the entire orchestra had never played or seen each other before boarding the ship. They had a quick 1 hour rehersal and they were set to go play for 7 day cruise.

Even John Lennon said that when The Beatles got together after a break; it took a few days to get feel, timing and such back.
in this case the band is not writing and learning new songs and running through them.

Even small time bands - you can practice a lot on your own and still need some jamming or some run through songs ... it happens quicker at their level ... a few days and they will likely be ready- as they know 90% or more of the shows and just have to work on the surprises. Some of those may have been worked on previous and may come out from hiding.
Usually you still want to do songs as a group to hear the whole band together.
I could be wrong and just remembering how I felt when I played in a very small time band.

It was a joint, not a cigarette and maybe he only had the one. I don't blame him for needing a joint in these stressful times!

Seeing those photos was very disappointing. Not what his voice needs right now. If he needed that joint, there are lots of edible products these days that he could enjoy, instead of smoking.

As to rehearsals,  after 20 years of playing together, they probably don't need a ton of them and I am not expecting a drastically different set list or staging.  And Paul uses teleprompters, so no need to worry about remembering lyrics.

I agree - why smoke when edibles exist? 🙄

Edibles have their drawbacks. But you can vape natural cannabis flower and it's much less harmful for your throat and lungs than smoking.  Hopefully if Paul is indulging in any, uh, herbs, he's doing it in a way that's not going to hurt his voice. He needs all he's got left.

On the voice, absolutely nothing. If you ingest too much, though, it could be an uncomfortable delirious experience.

I like the look of that on the drums (subtle and cool) and it is indication that there should be some "McCartney III" songs on the setlist. The key to me is will he just do the obligatory 2-3 songs from his most current album or will he finally shake it up a bit more than usual? I expect new opener, 99.9% sure it will be Beatle song but I would be so proud of him if the opener was "Find My Way". Guess we will all find out Thursday night.

I think it's possible.  It opens the album and grabs you by the lapels, then the one-two punch. It would set the tone for the evening. The dude is relevant.

Many will coming running to their seats via the merch, food and drink queue. Then the band can go for the throat with a great classic.

When I saw Sir Paul one of the several times in San Francisco, specifically 2010 AT&T Park, I thought it was a fairly daring one-tow opener with Venus and Mars into Rock Show then Jet.

The venue was huge. I deliberately did not check out the recent set list of the tour.  My buddy said he wanted to hear Sing the Changes. Long shot I thought. They played it.

That song set had several gems to hear live actually. I was stoked.  I guess that was the Up and Coming Tour.

Yes it would be great but the last time Paul was "relevant" with opening song was 1989 when the opener was "Figure Of Eight" which was off the recently released FITD. I would literally fall down from shock if he was that bold. If you are betting person, I would place my bets on "Get Back" or "I Want To old Your Hand" as opening song.

"Many will coming running to their seats via the merch, food and drink queue. Then the band can go for the throat with a great classic."

Sorry, that would happen no matter what song was opener, people running because the show has started.

"When I saw Sir Paul one of the several times in San Francisco, specifically 2010 AT&T Park, I thought it was a fairly daring one-tow opener with Venus and Mars into Rock Show then Jet."

People on this board were clamoring for Paul to do Venus & Mars/Rock Show again so maybe his team actually read this board  told him and he decided to do it.  Of course, Paul ruined it a bit by cutting it short and not doing the entire song like he did on WOA tour in 1976.

"Sing The Changes" was off EA and it was still fairly new and not that much of a surprise. I know he did it in 2009 when I saw him in NY. (Citifield)

                                      "Decisions, decisions… ✍️💭

Three days to go before the first #PaulMcCartneyGotBack show! What would you like to see on the setlist?"

Paul, since you've asked, I would choose my 2 favorite tracks from McCartney III: Pretty Boys and Women And Wives.

I would also enjoy I Want To Hold Your Hand as the opening song.

Silly Love Songs (with the horn section), Big Barn Bed, Helen Wheels, Goodnight Tonight and Getting Closer would be nice as well.

                                      That's all for the moment

Three days to go before the first #PaulMcCartneyGotBack show! What would you like to see on the setlist?"

Paul, since you've asked, I would choose my 2 favorite tracks from McCartney III: Pretty Boys and Women And Wives.

I would also enjoy I Want To Hold Your Hand as the opening song.

Silly Love Songs (with the horn section), Big Barn Bed, Helen Wheels, Goodnight Tonight and Getting Closer would be nice as well.

                                        That's all for the moment

Don't have twitter acocount but if Paul would ever post that question on his website fanboard, I would tell him the following.  Pick any three Paul and I would love it.

                                        1. Little Willow

                                        2. That Was Me

                                        3. Promise To You Girl

                                        4. Take It Away

                                        5. Confidante

                                        6. Find My Way

                                        7. Early Days

I'd agree with 1-2-3-6. Put in Slidin', Hunt You Down/Naked/C - Link, Mrs Vandebilt.

Of course we all have our favorites & these are just my picks for the day. Tomorrow who knows!

O.K. I'll try and get this all in one spot.

For songs I would like to hear that I hopefully would play well:

As much of the new McCartney III album as possible!

                                            It's vital, classic, and relevant!

Open with the first two tracks!  Long Tailed Winter Bird and Find My Way

And especially include in the line up:

                                            Seize The Day

                                            Slindin'

                                            The Kiss of Venus

                                            Deep Deep Feeling

Get Back  - should be saved for later in the set. Not blown while the baby boomers are rushing to their seats, spilling their $20 tall boy ales. Plus it closed out the roof top concert.

Tribute for George: For You Blue or better yet Tax Man (since Paul played both the tremendous bass and great guitar solo - could give us insight as well)

Also, big time gems and some of these numbers may not have been performed live in eons if ever, could you imagine the new stories to go along with them? I guess we would be lucky if a couple of them came up:

                                            Ever Present Past

                                            Hope of Deliverance

                                            Sing the Changes

                                            Alligator

                                            Coming Up

                                            Hosanna

                                            Young Boy

                                            My Brave Face

                                            Come and Get it

                                            Ram On

                                            C Moon

                                            Silly Love Songs

Goodbye (arrangement is fresh and classic, current vocals - interesting to see if he could pull it off)

                                            Martha My Dear

                                            I'm Looking Through You

                                            Day Tripper

Two of Us (we know I've Got A Feeling etc is likely)

                                            Junoir's Farm

                                            Dominoes

                                            Heaven On A Sunday

                                            No Other Baby

                                            Take It Away

                                            Only Mama Knows

                                            Good Night Tonight

                                            We Got Married

                                            Tomorrow

                                            Your Way

Mother's Day track:  Your Mother Should Know

Also, Sir Paul is a crowd pleaser. How about performing what he would like to play live and the songs he thinks we should get to know better?  We're not going to enjoy the show if Sir Paul is not enoying himself.

                                            In general, just surprise us!

Looking forward to both nights in Oakland. Despite the big production, hoping for a change up between shows.

Wishing Sir Paul and his band all the best with the tour!
