First, glad you had fun at concert. This is a McCartney fan site but it does not mean we have to kiss his butt and say everything was great. Is it so bad that some people expressed disappointment in some of the songs he selected and wanted to hear others he has never played before live? Also, people are concerned about the vocal abilities of any older artist especially one who will be 80 shortly. You should read some of the comments Jon Bon Jovi has gotten about his voice on tour and he is 20 years younger than Paul. I am lucky and have been fortunate to have seen Paul 6-7 times starting from 1976. I could care less whether he ever plays live again, I enjoy it more when he puts out new music. So in the end, I am glad this tour may give people who have never seen him a chance to hear him sing the songs they love.

Two other setlist things we didn't know last night -
he _did_ play Juniors Farm. Very cool. And - at the very end of the I Got A Feeling video (
), that's the start of Birthday. So another couple of tunes in there.
The duet with John is a very cool idea, I think.
Agree completely about the duet with John!
But he still leaves out the line about the president/bag of cement. He should have done it between 2016 and 2019!
Funny, John sounds better than Paul -lmao !! Agree it was great idea.

thats a great clip of 'i've got a feeling' and duet with John. well good for Peter Jackson for making that happen .

Let's hope that his set list will be songs that he can sing comfortably w/ his strained vocals. It would be fantastic if a good portion of the set will be from Egypt Station & III. I agree w/ the same old stories but after all he's old & like my parents they repeat themselves & that's alright. I hope those attending the concerts won't have high expectations & as the tour progesses we'll hear how his voice holds up.
I'm worried about Glasto on that front, Paul is already pretty passe in UK media, if he croaks his way through songs he sang well in 2004, it'll be a bad next day in the press. But hopefully it's a better outcome than that.

Paul is well insulated in that he has the best band he's ever assembled help him through the songs; along w/ the crowd screaming/singing along.

Also, what on Earth is up with not playing Yesterday anymore??? His most iconic song and every show feels so incomplete and a letdown without it. And he can still sing it better than many others remaining on the setlist which are a real struggle. Truly boggles the mind...
Yesterday has been pretty rough on the last couple of tours, but that kind of fits with the meaning of the song. Maybe I'm Amazed and Here Today have been tough for him, but he kept them in. I'll never understand. I was hoping for more change in the set list, but at the same time, I am so excited and thankful that I still get to see him in concert. Syracuse....can't wait!!!!

I have to second the motion. In a prior post I was as critical as anyone of the setlist choices -- Paul's decisions will baffle me as long as I live -- but let's just be thankful that he's about to turn 80 and very much alive and kicking and bringing people joy. We can't begin to imagine what these shows are like for someone who's never seen McCartney before, but someone on Steve Hoffman's board quoted a relative describing it as a literally life-changing experience.

Too true!! Every time he tours, there are people seeing him for the first time, whether original fans or new fans. I've never heard anything from them other than.....IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Paul may not sound like he once did, but he still puts on a fabulous live show and it's a magical experience to be in his presence each time!!

Review from Spin magazine of last night's concert. They did point out that it might not have been good idea using video with Johnny Depp in it due to his ongoing trial.
"The emotion started welling up during, of all songs, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” Something about the sight of a gaggle of teen girls, singing the nonsense chorus of that White Album classic started to crack my critical resolve. By the time Paul McCartney hit the chords of “Hey Jude,” already two-plus hours into the opening night of his 2022 American tour, the tears were soaking into my face mask.

Rolling Stome magazine review of concert last night.
Paul McCartney played his first full show in close to three years on Thursday night in Spokane, Washington.
MPL Communications Ltd
There’s a sequence in Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary, Get Back, when, on the fourth day of the tense writing-and-rehearsal marathon for a high-stakes live show and what would become the Fab Four’s final album, Let It Be, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are sitting around griping that John Lennon is running late, as usual. The Beatles are in the dumps and just about done. And McCartney, bearded and overflowing with song ideas — among them, the seeds of “Get Back” — becomes the group’s engine. It’s his job to get the Beatles back to being the Beatles again.
So, it’s no coincidence that McCartney, two months shy of 80 and returning to the road for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic threw the world into a collective doldrum, is calling his tour Got Back.

He hasn't done Yesterday since 2018. He dropped it by the time I saw him in May 2019.

After a day of calming down, I'm not as frustrated today as I was yesterday.
I'm sure that for the majority of the crowd (first timers and far more "Beatles Only" fans in the audience) it was a great show. And thanks to Yankeefan for showing the big reviews from the likes of Rollingstone and Spin Magazine, I (a true hard core Paul fan) should be plenty satisfied that the "Man" is still with us and still putting on a new tour that are so enjoyable for so many. I am happy that Paul is still touring...don't get me wrong.
Still when you're so passionate about an artist, it's "human nature" to complain. I remember back in 2002 after seeing the "Show of all Paul shows" after hearing all those Beatle and Wings tunes live for the first time, I was still "wishing he had played a few of the great Solo songs from Tug of War (e.g. Wanderlust, the title track etc) or a few great songs from Flaming Pie (Little Willow, Beautiful Night)". I was probably the only fan walking out of the arena thinking those kinds of thoughts. As I said, it 's "human nature" to think how a show could be better. And this is when Paul could really sing.
Unfortunately for me as a hard core fan, Paul has always "downplayed" his Solo and 2nd Career. Paul always seems to be stuck mentally in his "glory days" with the rest of his original mates. He still hasn't played some of his great Solo gems (the ones I listed above) and other truly great Solo songs) to this day.
But I have to remember that the majority of attendees are just thinking about his great Beatle songs. That's all they want to see and hear. For the overwhelming majority in Spokane last night, that's what they truly wanted to experience and for that matter it was definitely a great first show of this new tour. They could care less that he and the Band didn't play "Seize the Day", "Slidin" or for that matter "I Don't Know" from Egypt Station. For the hard core fans like me, it's natural to be critical.
I also have to remember the "emotional" side of things for the 1st timers. I saw that from the reviews that Yankeefan posted. They are swept up with the Beatlemania days that many of them can remember and with the old songs they heard last night. That is why they came and paid the big dollars.
I'm still hoping he brings out some of his great recent songs in Seattle and Oakland but my expectations are now not as high. The audience no matter what location of the show is still there primarily for remembering the old days.

Excellent post BJ, well said. Like you, I am not as disappointed today as yesterday. I think the problem I had was the high expectations of different opener and the addition of the "McCartney III" songs. I think we both came to grips his concerts were for the "first timers" quite awhile ago and that is fine. I remember the first time I saw him in 1976 and what a incredible experience it was for me.
I will say it again, I don't think it is "crusty" wanting Paul to play different songs from his solo career. The music he has written in the last 20 years has been incredible IMO and I wish he showcased it more by mixing up his set list. Any concert I have attended I have always thought back on I would have liked to have heard a different song that was not played that night. I think that is just human nature for most music fans. My daughters who are in their 30's did the same thing when they saw John Mayer awhile ago, they loved what he played but they said it would have been cool if he played one or two other songs they loved.
I will check out Paul's setlist for a couple more nights and see if it changes. I think at most he might swap out "Women And Wives" for a different "McCartney III" song. Finally, I think the reviews will be just fine. IMO critics have come to grips that at almost 80 Paul's voice is not what he once was even 5 years ago. Actually after hearing him at "Rock And Roll, induction, he sounded a bunch better than that the first night of the tour.

Thanks Yankeefan. I think we both had our minds made up that he would do "Slidin" and "Seize the Day". For the overwhelming percentage of attendees in Spokan last night, they don't know or vagulely know either song. But as long as they heard "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Hey Jude" etc, they were happy campers.

"Fuh You." Really, Paul?? The two weakest and/or embarrassing...IMO....songs on "Egypt Station" are that one and ...If you come on to me,then I'll come on to you....repeated over and over. "Who Cares" would be a much better selection...and maybe "Dominoes" or "Happy With You." He can't hit the notes in "Confidante," or that would be a choice one too. Anything else on the album but the two selected would be better. A different McCartney III song would be prederable, to me, than "Women and Wives." Yes, we all get to gripe or wish for different song choices by Paul. The man's a musical genius, so our comments are not going to hurt him in any way. It all just demonstrates how much we love and care about him.

I wish he would have played more McCartney 3 songs, Find My Way and Seize the Day would probably work well in concert.
