I was very fortunate, many years ago (I think 1998) to get an inside look of Abbey Road Studios, of course with Studio 2 being the high point... Has anyone else been inside? Do they do tours now?
I went inside Studio 2 in 1983. Best ÂŁ6.00 Yes 6 English pounds!! I've ever spent. I posted here, somewhere, a picture of Ringo's drumkit, except it fake!! I only realised it was fake later on. Paul's fake Hofner bass was there. I seem to remember only the Hammond organ ( Mr Moonlight) and the Steinway piano, Paul played on, was real. But hey ho! The studio itself was, and is, real. They played outtakes from the Beatles recording sessions. The guy said they didn't know what to do with these recordings, because it was the Beatles. They couldn't sell them, and they couldn't destroy them. 11 years later they released The Anthology. Seems like they had found a "use" for them after all
Well, when I got a look into Studio 2.... it was empty. I thought the studio would be full of Beatles memorabilia. Foolishly... But, no... not even pictures on the wall. It exhibited no signs of the Beatles ever having being there.... actually, from memory, there wasn't even a sign of a musical instrument... completely barren. Just a huge floor space!... Empty... We found our way to the other studio where I knew they did the Rockestra theme. That was also cool.
It seems you went just as a normal visit. When I went in 1983, it was especially organised as a Beatles thing. It actually was set up as though the Beatles were going to do a show ( I wish lol) All the instruments were set up like they would be on a concert stage. All it needed was JPG & R to come in and play. I had my photo taken while I sat at Ringo's ( fake ) drumkit. Sadly, I haven't a clue where that photo is nowď¸ I also sat at Pete Best's drumkit when i visited The Casbah club in Haymans Green, Liverpool. I also videoed my visit to the Casbah Club. Got told off by Roag Best when i put my film on Youtube. But he was very polite about, so polite I removed it. I felt bad about putting it on Youtube.
When I toured Abbey Road, it was on the back of winning a competition in Australia. Part of the "new" release of Flaming Pie... five days in England, with accommodation, flown by Lauda Air. It took over 24 hours to get to England, so I was exhausted by the time I got there... took a fair chunk out of the five days... back in those days, I don't think they were doing tours anymore. It was like an "exclusive" thing... the funny thing was, that when we rolled up at Abbey Studios and announced ourselves as the competition winners.... nobody even knew of us... they quickly grabbed some guy who showed us around.... I knew more about the studio and the Beatles than he did! ... Still, it was an awesome moment.... I could write a book on the experience... Lauda Air tried to bump us from our flights a couple of times... and when you've only got a five-day window... I wasn't happy.... but, it was a wonderful experience, Just, I recall Studio 2 being like an old church hall. Huge ceilings. But not even a hint of the Beatles.... I still reckon EMI and Lauda Air should've given us 10 days... not five!... I still have jetlag!

What a story! All I did was turn up in a minicab. Bit boring really. But everytime I go there I remember it. Will never forget it. And you know, in the 40 something years of going there I have NEVER written on the wall.
-
@wandy Why have you never written on the wall and taken a photo of it? I do and I know it will be white-washed off soon, but I have that âkeepsake.â
-
@njr Well the honest answer is I never have anything to write with ( seriously) but also I have no real desire to do it. I know I'm a fan, I don't feel I need to profess it to the world. Does anybody else really care? Yes, they paint the wall every 6 months or so, NOT because they don't want the graffiti there, but because they want to give other fans a chance to write stuff. They say that now the wall is several inches thicker because of the paint jobs on it. When I first discovered Apple in Savile Row, in about 1977, after walking up and down, up and down the street, I am pleased to say it had one of its original front doors. I say one of them because there had been more than one over the years. The door was like the AR Studios wall. Covered in graffiti. I only had one or two frames left on my camera (clearly we are talking film here. Good old fashioned film roll) I looked around for a shop that sold film rolls for cameras. No luck. I thought no problem, I will come back tomorrow morning, with fresh film in camera, and take more photos. WRONG!!! I did indeed go back, but the door was GONE!!ď¸ Builders were in, stripping the place out. How lucky I was to manage to take at least 2 snaps the day before. I will try to search out the few photos I took, back then, and put them here on Maccaboard.
-
@wandy My friends and I never go anywhere Beatles-related (sites, festivals, concerts, etc.) without both black & silver Sharpies!
-
@wandy The very first time I ever wrote on anything was on the door of #3 Savile Row, but neglected to take a close-up photo. (took a photo of the door though) The place was abandoned then (1980) and probably under renovation.
Here is the original door at the British Music Experience: (Aug. 2022) -

Here is the original door at the British Music Experience: (Aug. 2022)Yes it's SO much easier these days to photograph stuff. Everybody has a cell phone, so everybody has a camera. In the old days you literally had to THINK/REMEMBER, to take a camera out with you. Problem nowadays, with camera phones, is if an accident occurs out on the street, everybody takes their phones out, not to phone for police, or ambulance, but to film the poor sod, getting beaten up!! Or run over!â

@wandy You gotta delete those photos - remember, no quoting photos, just the text portion.
And I think people DO call 911, but then film. Thankfully in George Floydâs case, the film evidence convicted the cops who killed him or were complicit in his death!
I watch a lot of true crime stories and many times the cases are solved by cellphone video! -

Still not sure what your talking about, I haven't posted any photos ( my dear) HOWEVER, I have found some photos in my old photo album, of 3 Savile Row, that I took around 1977. Any idea where in Maccaboard, I can post them safely, without fear of deletion, expulsion repulsion, or anything else, for that matter, from Maccaboard regulators, please.

@wandy Whenever I (or anyone) posts photos or a YouTube embedded video and you quote that post, you are quoting (reposting) the photo(s) or video. This is verboten on here. The Mod usually catches it and removes it. They used to send you notifications when you broke the rules, but not any more I guess. Maybe I just havenât broken the rules since this new forum style began. You might get a PM about it.

So far so good, but as I haven't posted any photos on this thread, I feel pretty safe

It is correct that you yourself havenât posted any photos, but you have QUOTED photos! (and the Mod removed the 2 photos of the 3 Savile Row door that you quoted)

I slowed it down. Its definitely Heather Mills driving!! In the passenger seat is Pete Best!! And behind Pete is Yoko Oh no!!! But to be serious for a moment. I just think the driver was impatient. I don't think he nearly clipped Paul. When he moved out the way, he was doing a bit of play acting. That's my take on it, anyway.
