Supposedly on Amazon.co.uk, there are two versions...one is 800 pages, and one is 1800+ pages! I know there's supposed to be a "standard" and "deluxe" version, so those make sense. I wonder why the one marketed to the US Amazon is only 1200?

That's for sure. I know it's not an official Apple product, so I can understand why there wouldn't be the Beatles' logo or anything official like that, but the cover is still lousy, especially when compared to the very nice covers on Lewisohn's other books.

That's probably just a placeholder cover until it gets closer to release. I think the cover will be better, hopefully.

I hope so! I was talking to a friend who has some inside connections who usually has good info when it comes to things Beatles-related who seemed to think that was the final design. I hope you're right, but it seems odd that the official Twitter page for that book would hype up the cover reveal last week for a placeholder, don't you think? :

If you're going to do a Beatles logo, use the official one...if you can't get the rights then don't make one up. Plenty of stock photos that could be used too.

I'm a little confused and truthfully a bit irked that the US edition will only be 1200 while the UK edition will be either 800 or 1800 pages...the price difference between all three makes it more of a choice than it deserves to be ($40 for the US edition vs. $125 for the UK 1800 page one! )

In fact, there are three different versions. Check the details here: http://www.examiner.com/article/mark-lewisohn-reveals-major-details-on-first-volume-of-his-beatles-bio-trilogy

VERY confusing. The thing that puts me off is the price. As a Beatles nut, I of course would prefer the 1800 page UK edition, but that's 125 POUNDS, which is something like $180. I can get the US edition, which is 1200 pages and has all of the footnotes, for $40. I could buy volumes 2 and 3 and still have spent less money TOTAL than the UK edition of volume 1!

I've got his huge book on daily events in the Fabs' lives especially about their recording studio sessions. It's kind of dry stuff, although crammed with info. So this tome will be more of a regular biography and not a "diary" type thing focusing mostly on their recording activities? In that case, want to read it.

I've got that book, too. And yes, these 3 are supposed to be the definitive biography

The massive Bob Spitz biography on the Beatles was a great read, a real corker, I don't know if Paul liked it, though. But it sure was engrossing, absorbing. Hope this is as good.

When The Beatles needed fact checking on The Beatles Anthology they turned to Mark Lewisohn. He is known as the foremost Beatles expert and historian in the world. I bet he will have tons of interviews and info that has never been published before. All other Beatles Bios will pale in comparison, especially in detail. Can't wait for this read!

That's one of the WORST Beatles bios ever! Not only is it FULL of errors on very basic things, (including the atrocious picture captions), but Spitz himself is a real First Class A-hole. This is just but one example of what he did when people pointed out his errors online... http://www.beatlesnews.com/news/the-beatles/200510280101/new-beatles-bio-is-riddled-with-errors.html Any author who replies to a reader (and potential customer) with: "You need an enema. Really! Do something useful with your life" deserves a good kick in the face. Any Google search for "Bob Spitz Beatles Book errors" will bring up loads of hits. I advise everyone I know to AVOID this book. Seriously.

I've gotten an advance copy of this book for review purposes and began reading it last night. I can't divulge anything more than that (had to sign release disclosure stating I'd keep it to myself, etc) but I will say that, 50 pages in, I already love it. I think this is going to live up to its hype as the definitive work on the band. I'll be publishing my review on my website once I'm finished and will post a link once I do.
