Huh. Only $7000? I thought the collectors were a bit more aggressive.

http://webgrafikk.com/blog/uncategorized/4-abbey-road-letters-fetched-7000/Putting on my conspiracy theory cap, I could point out that "abey" is an old word that means to suspend or discontinue, and the missing B of course would be Beatles. And so either the cosmos or the Tavistock Institute sent a message with those letters: "suspend The Beatles".

For the Brits among us. Abbey Road Studios was where the ABBEY NATIONAL building Soc started. True fact.

£7000 in 1969 for all 4. That’s $8610 now. He wants to sell them for £16,000 for EACH LETTER, which is $19,680 or $78,720 for all 4 letters!

@wandy What’s “Soc?”

Had to Google “Tavistock Institute” since your reference means nothing to non-Brits.
Fun fact: The first time I came to London in 1980, we stayed at the Tavistock Hotel on Tavistock Square. (near Russell Sq. tube station) The rooms were £49, which we thought was a FORTUNE, especially since back then, £1 = $2.40! (it’s only $1.23 today) -

SOCiety. Building Society.
Okay. Still don’t know what’s so special about that. (confused)

Tavistock Institute
According to Google "The Tavistock Institute was founded in London in 1946 with the aid of a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation." A lot of these supposedly sinister shadowy organizations are trans-national anyway.

My Google search yielded this!

Yeah, I heard about that. Interesting if they were indeed connected with other dubious people decades ago.

@wandy Earth to wandy! What is the significance of the Abbey National Building Society? (other than the fact it was named after Abbey Road)

OK. Over here in the UK, we have Buildings Societies. They are similar to banks. One of our biggest Building Societies was called the ABBEY National ( key word here is "ABBEY") Before AR Studios was a studio, it was a private Town House. A private address. The guy that lived there started a Christmas club, for local residents. It became so successful he turned it into a building society, called the Abbey Building Society. There was another building society called, the NATIONAL building society. Round about 1947, or so, both building societies merged, and became the Abbey National building Society. Then, several year's ago, the Abbey National was sold to a French Bank, called Santander. Any Brits reading this will know exactly what I'm talking about. I bank with Santander. In 1931, the Town House, in Abbey Road, was sold to British electronics giant, EMI. EMI opened the building as a studio, I believe, Sir Edward Elgar was the first musician to record there in 1931. The rest is history. If you ever get to see my movie, The Beatles London, I cover AR Studios, in that movie. Well actually its a 72 min documentary.

@wandy Thanks for the explanation!
