"touche" Nancy. I do get carried away to say the least.
While I do agree with you and Yankeefan, that this type of proposed album for Paul in 2023 is "unrealistic", I think it's needed for Paul's total Post Beatles' Discography. He has so many relatively "unknown" Solo songs. That is not true in Paul's Beatle Career.

          Additional Honorable Mentions/ Substitutes

Again, I'm focusing on Extra Songs not included on Paul's original Solo/Wings Albums.

          1. Thank You Darling - Terrific Paul/Linda Duet

          2. Country Dreamer - B-Side of Helen Wheels Single

          3. Night Out - Great little Rocker

          4. Best Friend - Live in Antwerp Version

          5. Mama's Little Girl - B-Side of Put It There Single

          6. I'll Give You a Ring - B-Side of Take It Away Single. Best Version in my opinion is the One Hand Clapping "Live " Version.

          7. Fabulous - B-Side of No Other Baby

          8. Write Away - Not included on Press to Play Album. Great extra song on CD Version

          11. Only Mama Knows - Live Version on the Amoeba Gig CD

New Album for 2023 (Summary Page for this topic)

Assuming that Paul McCartney doesn't have a full New Album (with brand new songs) ready for 2023, I think an inexpensive "Interim"(fill-in type album) makes a great deal of sense at this time. Sample Track List for a 1 CD Starter Set Package is below. To go with the theme of this Album, a good title would be "Leftovers and Rarities"

            1. My Old Friend- Written by the late Great Carl Perkins during the Tug of War Sessions on the Island of Monserrat. Paul liked the song so much he convinced Carl to stay longer at George Martin's personal studio to finish the song to give it a more "finished" sound.

            2. Goodbye- Written by Paul aro 1968 or 1969, this is Paul's demo he wrote for Mary Hopkin who the Beatles had signed for Apple Records. Great acoustic vocals by Paul

            3. A Love For You- Originally written by Paul for the Ram Sessions this song was overdubbed around 1980 for the IN-Laws Movie Soundtrack. Best Version in my opinion and great rocker.

            4. The Mess - B-Side to the My Love Single (Live at the Hague)

            5. Sally G - B- Side to "Junior's Farm. Great Country style song

            6. Maybe I'm Amazed - use the "Live Version" from the Wings Over America Album (done later in 1976
              after the tour.

            7. Daytime Nighttime Suffering- B-Side to the Goodnight Tonight Single. Great B-Side

            8. Waterspout- Unreleased song written during the London Town Sessions. Great Rocker

            9. Cage- Another Unreleased song written during the Back to the Egg Sessions.

            10. Rainclouds- B-Side to Ebony and Ivory Single.
Late Great Paddy Maloney from the Chieftains assisted Paul on the "Pipes".

            11. On the Wings of a Nightingale- Demo that Paul had written for the Everly Brother's Comeback album in 1984. Great song in my opinion.

            12. Yvonne's the One- Unreleased and written by Paul and Eric Stewart during the Press to Play Sessions. Better than many of the songs on the finished album.

            13. Loveliest Thing - B-Side to Figure of 8 Single and later appears on the Flowers in the Dirt archive and big Box Set. Great Ballad

            14. Back on My Feet- One of Paul and Elvis Costello first collaborations. Best version,in my opinion, is the acoustic one with just Paul at the piano.

15.Once Upon a Long Ago - an A-side Sjngle and hit in Great Britain only but virtually unknown in America.

            1. The Lovers That Never Were- A Elvis Costello and Paul Demo that originally appeared on the Off the Ground Album. Great vocals by Paul and better than its studio counterpart in my opinion.

            2. I Can't Imagine- B-Side of C'Mon People. Never appeared on the "Off the Ground" original Album.

            3. Love Come Tumbling Down- B-Side to the Beautiful Night Single from Flaming Pie. Great vocals by Paul.

            4. Flying to My Home- B- Side to the "My Brave Face" Single from Flowers in the Dirt. Great Rocker in my opinion.

            5. Love Mix/Waiting for the Sun to Shine- Another great unreleased song.

            6. In A Hurry- Written by Paul during the Egypt Station Sessions but never appears on the Album.

            7. Home Tonight- Written by Paul during the Egypt Station Sessions but never appears on the Album.

I think this could be a slower "seller"in my opinion relying on good/great marketing. It should probably retail on sale at about $10 to 12 Dollars.

To make the Album really polished, Paul should probably get Giles Martin or Greg Kirsten to assist on the Editing Chores on some of the tracks.

Paul and Beatle fans should really know these songs. To many more casual Paul and Beatle fans, many of the songs are relatively unknown. Think of it this way, the album would be like "new " music to many consumers. As I have said, "marketing and getting the word out" would be key.

I think Paul should do it and at 80 years young, now is the time especially for his overall legacy.

I've said enough so hopefully this Leftovers and Rarities Subject will be over at least from my end.

Finally, Paul has enough good to great material that if this "Starter" Package is successful, a couple of Follow-Up" Packages could easily be done. Look at some of my additional song selections on page 9 of this topic.

Excellent music but as I have said way too many times, I don't see it happening. Maybe you could add some of the songs he wrote for the musical "It's A Wonderful Life" (lol) because it sure looks like that is never going to hit the stage. IMO - "Maybe I'm Amazed" does not fit on this CD. It is too well known (was a top 20 single) to be on CD called "Leftovers and Rarities". I know you picked the live version and to be honest with you when I have heard that song on the radio, they use the live version.

I agree - in the U.S. they ALWAYS played the 1976 live version. Did they ever play the album version from 1970 to 1975 on the radio? I don’t recall!

I agree that Maybe I'm Amazed is way too well known to be on a Leftovers and Rarities album. Maybe I'm Amazed is arguably his Best Post Beatles' song but I have had the opposite experience. Whenever I hear MIA on Spotify, Pandora or other Radio Playlists, i almost always hear the [link text](link url)studio version. I can easily tell because of the raspiness in his "live" voice . Anyway I can see this track being removed from the track list for the reason you gave.

21 tracks is still a full CD's worth of music and I think most of the other tracks are fairly unknown to casual Paul and Beatle fans. The only other track that is fairly known is Goodbye, the old Mary Hopkin hit. This was written in the late 60's when the Beatles were still in their heyday. Goodbye got a lot of publicity at that time as a Paul written song for Mary Hopkin. To make this proposed album truer to the title (Leftovers and Rarities) I think it does make sense to drop both MIA and Goodbye.

Besides Paul has plenty of good to great songs true to the title. Think of the extra songs and B-Sides on the Chaos and Creation Singles, all the extra songs that didn't make it on the original "Off the Ground" album plus Deluxe Editions that added a song or two, As I said, Paul has plenty enough of good material to do a follow-CD of "Leftovers and Rarities" if the "starter" CD is successful.

I started this thread this morning just to do a quick summary. I've said just about enough to say. For Paul's Legacy, I think it needs to be done. Like you and Nancy said, I doubt if it happens. I would be one of the first in line at my local Target. As I've said before, I believe Paul is the greatest songwriter along with Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen over the last 50 or so years. Too many of his songs should be better known.

I meant to say above that "I would be one of the first in line" at my local Target if a CD like I'm proposing ever happened.
Finally and regarding this Leftovers idea, I think a better way to put it..."Paul McCartney has too many good songs from his Solo career that are virtually unknown". That's how prolific he has been.

Agree 100%. The quality of songs he has written late in life is absolutely stunning IMO.

I wouldn’t drop Goodbye! I seriously doubt many casual fans know Mary Hopkin’s version, let alone Paul’s demo and the fact that he wrote it!

BTW, here’s the studio version of MIA:

Live 1976 version: (note how much longer the live version is!)

Thanks Nancy for putting both MIA versions on Maccaboard. Hearing both versions back to back I love both of them. I have heard the "live" version on Serius Radio a few times where they also include Jimmy's introduction. You're so right that the Wings Over America "live" version is longer. They repeat Jimmy's guitar solo on the longer/live version. Maybe it's just my experience but I've heard the studio/shorter version more often. I love the ending on the studio version a little better but both are great imo. That's the only reason I included the Wings Over America release on my "make believe" CD. If it was up to me, I'd also include Jimmy's intro on the "Leftovers" proposed CD. It makes the "live" version more memorable.

I also picked "Goodbye" for Leftovers and Rarities because most of the younger Paul fans and certainly casual fans probably have never heard it. I love, love Paul's vocals on his original demo. I'm old enough to remember Mary Hopkin's version and single being played on the radio back in the 60's. I would have no problems with both songs on my proposed cd. They might help the initial sales of "Leftovers" go higher because their inclusion makes the overall CD stronger and more salesble.

You are also so right about the mistake Paul and the record company made for not releasing MIA as a "single" when the McCartney Album was immediately released. It probably would have been an instant #1 at that time.

One last thing...If Paul/MPL thinks this Starter CD is a good idea and they want to keep the "Live" MIA track (Track #6) because that alone would make the CD sell better, I would keep Jimmy's Introduction. It really confirms that Paul is singing "Live" and I think it's priceless.

Is that the one that Jimmy calls it a "piano tune that goes back a few albums" ? I thought that was priceless -lol

Yes, that's the one Yankeefan. If Paul and MPL put Jimmy's Introduction at the beginning of the track, it surely would make it more of a rarity.

Have you been watching any of the Girls NCAA March Madness? The girl I love to watch is Kaitlin Clark the 6 Foot Guard from Iowa. They play South Carolina on Friday night. South Carolina is undefeated for the whole Season. Clark is so much fun to watch! I'm definitely going to watch that Game! Just hope it turns out to be a good game. South Carolina is so deep that they have been favored to win the tournament all along.

I've always found it frustrating that Wings Over America (and Paul's live albums in general) leave out the spoken intros and between-song banter. That's part of the live experience and it's pretty much always left out.

As I do every year, I am ignoring March Madness.

I've always found it frustrating that Wings Over America (and Paul's live albums in general) leave out the spoken intros and between-song banter. That's part of the live experience and it's pretty much always left out.

As I do every year, I am ignoring March Madness.

I have enough madness in my life right now to ever give a fig about March Madness! Don’t know whether to cry or laugh.
Sorry BJ and Yankeefan. Just dealing with a lot with my mom’s dementia.

I agree. The "Springsteen on Broadway" CD's kept all the stories he told, and they were several minutes long. I understand that was part of the experience of the shows on Broadway, but it shows it can be done. There is no reason Paul could not leave in small snippets of live stage patter like the introduction we have mentioned. Doing that gives the buyer of the CD more of the live experience IMO.

I really don't watch much/any of women's basketball. I have seen Caitlin Clark play a bit from highlights and she is quite good. Actually, I am disappointed in men's college basketball. The "One and done" mentality of the men's game has diluted the talent of the teams. I remember the days of the great Duke or Las Vegas teams and they had several players who would play in the NBA. Today's teams are lucky if they have one guy good enough to play in the NBA. In addition, when players hung around to their junior or senior year you got to know the teams better. Oh well -lol

Hey Nancy. I understand totally about your frustration. In my father's last couple of years, he had dimentia real bad. I brought my Dad down from New Jersey to Florida where his Sister lived. I wanted to retire anyway and my Father could no longer take the winters up North so we moved. Anyway, the first couple of years it was very frustrating. We would drive at the end of the year from New Jersey to Florida (a long 2 Day drive). After a couple of days he would go into his sister's house (only 3 houses down from our house) and tell my aunt (his sister) that he was leaving to go home because he wanted to go to my Mom's grave site in NJ. One year he left in our car and preceded to get lost. Fortunately for me, he only got to the next town. Talk about being frustrating. It was all about his dimentia. He couldn't understand that he wanted to go back home and that it was already Winter which is why we moved in the first place.

My Father lived to 90 and in retrospect, it was good
we moved. On the whole he had a good few years down in Florida. Now when I look back I should have had more patience with him. The dimentia he had did cause a few headaches for me but still l should of had more patience. My Daughter reminds me how good he was (and my Mother) were to her. My Mom and Father were not only great parents but great grandparents too. These days I miss both of them so much. How lucky my sister and I were. I realize that especially when I hear stories from friends about their parents. We were so lucky!
