10 Craziest Things Kanye West Said During His Bizarre Oxford Lecture? "Obama Calls the Home Phone" Read more: http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/kanye-west-quotes-oxford-lecture-crazy-201533#ixzz3TLd1Vw84

Some of these aren't crazy at all.

      Kanye:

?My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater. That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone in the past that has done so much, and in your life you?re not even allowed to think that you can do as much. That?s a mentality that suppresses humanity.?

I agree with this completely. People who are successful try to be the best. People who think they'll never be as good, never are.

      kanye:

?I?d see toys that some people would buy for my daughter and I?d say this toy isn?t quality. I don?t want my daughter playing with this. There?s not enough love put into this, this is just manufactured with the will to sell, and not the will of inspiration.?

If you just read the first part, he sounds like he really spoils his child. But the second part is great.

      Kanye:

?People say it takes a village to raise a child. People ask me how my daughter is doing. She?s only doing good if your daughter?s doing good. We?re all one family.?

This is crazy? I think this is beautiful.

If they had digital downloads in 1964, every song from With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night and Beatles For Sale, plus all the singles, would have been in the charts.

Not to mention Meet The Beatles, The Beatles Second Album, The Early Beatles, and Something New in the U.S.!

Weren't they mostly the same songs?

            That was just a joke.

Sometimes it's best to check. People can get very defensive when it comes to their interpretation of The Beatles.

People who don't know better will read this and think that Drake is bigger than The Beatles. And he is not... History rolls over you and become something it was not. A trifle for example... :

That, and given how fragmented music is these days. Strange, with all the media, you think we would have BIGGER stars, not smaller ones. Drake is no where in the universe of being as world famous as the Beatles were in the mid 60s. I don't think people these days really understand just how intense Beatlemania was.

good observation, something odd how light weight stars can dominate

My guess is The Beatles could have had about 30 or so #1 singles in the U.S. if they wanted to. Just think of the singles they could have released from Rubber Soul, Revolver, Pepper, MMT, & The White Album. For the most part, no singles were released from those albums.

Yeah, almost every Beatles song is a potential hit single besides being a great album track. if they'd been more cynical back then, instead of pioneers, they could probably have had twice as many top ten hits.

If they had the internet back then, they could have released all the BBC songs as singles.

two questions Who is "Drake"? Is the Album an irrelevant thing in the music business? (another question, for another time, what is exactly is the music business model now?)

As I said in my first post: "Well, suffice it to say he's a "nice" rapper from Canada who started as a TV actor as a kid." He's had several hit albums now. He still acts a little bit. The questions about albums are complicated. Drake's feat proves that consumers can purchase individual tracks from albums and they can all chart separately if the excitement level is high enough on the album's release. But also, albums do not sell nearly what they used to. Billboard has realized this, and they have recently altered their album charts. Before, you would have to download or stream the entire album (or buy the CD or the LP or cassette) for it to count as an album sale. Now, whenever any tracks are downloaded or streamed, they just add them up to an album sale after something like ten or twelve times, so even if people download or stream ONE song a dozen times (roughly), it counts as an album sale for that album. Billboard says this is the best way they can show in their charts what's really popular these days. Kind of crazy, but that's what they're doing now. This policy doesn't really affect Drake personally, though, because he sells a lot of whole albums anyway. It does benefit artists like Ariana Grande, since no one cares much about more than a couple of songs from her album.

Oh, it should all be so simple..... For singles..... count those that are bought in an old fashioned record store plus those downloaded from a reputable site. For albums... count those that are bought in an old fashioned record store plus those downloaded IN FULL from a reputable site. Sounds like the music industry is shiteing itself that sales are on a downfall, and looking to count anything, even anyone who sneezes whilst their cursor is hovering over a potential illegal download.... A sad indictment on the music industry. And I will also happily put it down to the fact that no "modern" act has really stamped itself like those that went before them. Their fickle fans don't want to invest in them by spending money on them. Video didn't kill the radio star.... but technology is making it too easy. I long for the days of saving up to buy a record. Sure made me feel good, even if it took two weeks on a paper route back in the day. Signed, Old Fart.
