@jimmix It's interesting that CNN reported this is something just started in 2023 https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/04/entertainment/paul-mccartney-hofner-bass-guitar-search-intl-hnk/index.html but this campaign for the bass was launched by the same guy at Hofner about 2-3 years ago.
I started a thread here about it in 2021.
https://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/topic/8132/campaign-to-find-pauls-stolen-hofner-bass/2?_=1694030646861
The website for this campaign used to be on the Hofner site, but it now has it's own domain https://thelostbass.com/I emailed Nick Wass at Hofner a few years ago about helping with research on what happened to Paul's lost Hofner. He (Nick) was very kind and is appreciative of any help. He said the only thing he doesn't want fans to do is email him about hunches or ideas on what happened, without having any proof or documentation.
Hopefully it can be found in Paul's lifetime, it would probably mean so much to him if he could get that back. He probably felt a real sense of loss when it was gone.
I sometimes wonder if "Confidante" on Egypt Station was written about his lost Hofner. A bass isn't probably an instrument that he used to compose songs, though, except when he was in the studio working out his bass part. A bass is more of a performance instrument. Seems like in the early days of his songwriting he enjoyed just taking an acoustic guitar and strumming and coming up with riffs and melodies and went from there. He's probably always done that, and no doubt still does!

@ladyleslie Great post! The only time we see Paul composing a song using his bass is “Get Back” in the documentary of the same name!

@njr Thanks, Nancy!

@njr Isn't there a story (and picture) of a small piece of paper with a list of songs to perform with The Beatles, taped to his Hofner. And that list was still taped to his bass 20+ decades later.

Yes, but that was on the 1963 bass he plays today, not the stolen 1961 one. Story and pic in Andy Babiuk's book "Beatles Gear."

I sure am praying
that it is found! There are definitely rumors out there, and someone has to know. Imagine having it and not showing anyone… I know those collectors love to chat about their collections.

Is there anyone who knows someting about the cavern bass that
briefly is seen in the teaser for Now and Then?
