In case you haven't seen it, here's a very good mini documentary on that fortuitously fateful day. Please feel free to post your thoughts and any additional information you feel is appropriate.

      And another good one:

Mintz was a good friend of the Lennons. He worked on the US vs Lennon & the Lost Lennon Tapes.

I think "the great meeting" tends to be over-romanticized. They were two guys who'd simply met. And the rest is history.

Thank you for those two youtube links, Erik - I had never seen them before and they are very helpful to me, so thanks again. You see, I am so enjoying my new immersion process of re-learning The Beatles. I've been away from all this for so long. And because I have always been more of a "Greatest Hits" person than I am an "album" person (and that goes for most music/singers that I've ever liked), I am actually trying to play various Beatles albums multiple times in a day while at work to get a real feel for what was trying to be said or accomplished. There are songs I never quite knew for sure who was singing or how many of them were singing or who had left the studio before things were even wrapped up and tied with a bow so to speak..I'm researching this type of thing now. It's a joyous journey I must say. Imagine listening to Abbey Road...I mean, really listening and replaying...I find myself falling in love with certain songs that I have never paid too, too much attention to. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and "Because"....just amazing and they remind me of each other. Is it the moog synthesizer perhaps? Oh, forgot to say that I love seeing the faces of the "young" Beatles on the youtube videos. So cute!

Hi Scarlett! I still owe you a PM and so happy that you're enjoying the amazing journey. You are a breath of fresh air on the forum Here's an interesting question for you--in what Beatles song do the Beatles use the word "scarlet?" (no Google ;))

Well Derek Taylor described The Beatles story as the greatest romance of the 20th Century. I agree. I don't think they simply met. I like to believe it was "supposed to happen." Ivan was supposed to happen to them. The same way Brian was supposed to happen. George Martin and EMI was supposed to happen. Stu, Pete, Geoff Emerick were supposed to happen. Even ML says, and his book proves, there are so many instances in the Beatles story where "luck and coincidence" steers the events at almost every turn. I stood in the spot where John and Paul met, there in St Peter's Hall, and for me it was an overwhelming experience. Can't over romanticise The Beatles story enough for mine!

Moptops, please forgive me, I'm fairly new to this site....does ML mean Mark Lewisohn, the British author and historian whom I had never heard of until a few weeks ago but whose book "Tune In" I plan on buying in the future? I like this idea of "luck and coincidences". Have you read Malcolm Gladwell's book "Outliers" which talks about how much "good timing" and extreme hard work and dedication in the early days had a big part in the success of The Beatles? It seems there are so many elements that could account for why no band can compare to The Beatles. Erik, thank you for the compliment, that's sweet of you to say. And I love a good challenge but I am temporarily stumped by your trivia question. I need a little time to think about this. And please keep in mind that The Beatles could very well be singing "Scarlet" in one of their songs and I could be thinking they're singing "La Scala". But as I can't recall any La Scala Beatles songs at the moment, I am as stumped as I was earlier in this paragraph! I look forward to hearing from you!

Actually I saw Moptop and Steven's comments but was too busy going through the file system in my head of songs that could have the word scarlet in them to pay too much attention to what they wrote. You know, there really are not many "scarlet" songs out there. First phrase that popped in my head from my filing cabinet was "Scarlet billows start to spread" which isn't even from a Beatles song, it's from Bobby Darin's Mack the Knife of course. so then I made my way over to the Beatles files in my brain and was a little tempted to think that "scarlet" was in "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" with all of it's psychedelic imagery...tangerine trees and such..but no, it wasn't there of course. And then I remembered that there is a song about the color red...Yes It Is. A wonderful song, love it! You might think that someone named Scarlett would know this answer right away but alas that is not my real name, just my favorite character from a movie. Erik (or anyone else), please ask me another trivia question if it would not be too off topic here. Can't be at the Jeopardy level of most of you experts here, you guys should really write a book collectively of what it means to be a true Beatles fan. I'd buy it!
