I'll put some context to that mini rant, it's just when he started got to get you into my life I surprised myself by selling up from nowhere - it reminds me of all the gigs I've been to, he played it at my first in 1990, buying revolver Xmas 86, just my life. Paul's been my life, as he is for many here, but when you older (47) and an illness that gives you an uncertain future, you realise what has meant things to you the most, and Paul has made me so happy. And I'm happy he's still here, and his voice isn't what it was but it's not that bad. I get sick of negativity from fans. I love him, I'm glad he's not dead. And I wish I wasn't ill. Night night, I'm watching Paul on telly.

Thank you for your posts @Eeee Cor Blimey; even if you're "knackered," you've expressed my same sentiments. Best wishes to you for better health.

    • RE: A VERY Happy 80th Birthday to PAUL!! (on June 18th)

Happy Birthday, Paul. There are times I get a bit irked by some things he does or wonder if a rockstar is really worthy of the adulation and reward heaped upon him, but this tour reaffirmed for me why he’s deserving — the joy he brings so many people is unrivaled, and especially at this time I know I’m not alone in how much I needed it. This tour also reaffirmed for me that he does what he does just because he loves it, yet also goes above and beyond to give extra to the fans, and those of us who were following him on this tour know what I mean. Thank you Paul for being my inspiration for three decades. Love you.

Did anybody else find it ironic that Paul had the time with the band to quickly "learn" "Glory Days" but he can't seem to have time to rehearse new songs from "McCartney III" to play on tour.

Nope! Most of us are just enjoying the shows and appreciative when he continues to do fun, different things at 80 years old. Thank you Paul for another great show and fantastic tour!

The above pic of Paul and James in the studio is from 2013, not 1997. They were working on James' album ("Me," I assume).

At a guess early 90's, perhaps 1992? Difficult one...what do you reckon?

Sounds about right. Will have to find some known photos to compare.

It was November 1987 at the George V Hotel in Paris. Some of the other photos from the shoot were discussed in another thread. Photo credit Jean-Claude Deutsch for Paris Match / Getty.

    • RE: Concert Signs

@RADIANCE the anniversary signs I've seen have usually said something like "Spending Our [6th] Anniversary With You."

There will of course be many fans up front who have signs and Paul still devotes a portion of the show to reading them, which is the time most hold them up.

Best of luck and Happy Anniversary!

He continued dedicating it to her for several years after his marriage to Nancy. I know I saw it as recently as 2017.

She wasn't "a previous wife," she was a beloved wife and mother of his children who died.

FWIW I got my Spokane email 3 days before the show, which was the latest I'd gotten one. SLO may be a bit behind this year.

It never really was 3 hours though, more close to 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Vienna shows were 2 hours and 45 minutes, and that was including interruption of people on stage. Krakow was 2 hours and 44 minutes, including people on stage. Copenhagen no one on stage, 2 hours and 45 minutes. Funny how he can time it pretty close, even with slightly different songs.

With the extra song for the UK leg, would say 2 hours and 50 minutes max.

Well the times on my videos don't lie, it was 3 hours in Liverpool. 🙂  Last year's MSG show with Bruce and Nassau show with Billy also both came in just under 3 hours according to my timestamps.

One thing I noticed was that in Quebec he cut the stories out almost entirely and dramatically reduced the audience banter compared to what I'm used to in NY.  In Liverpool the stories and banter were all back in full force, so he seemed much more laidback and honestly I enjoyed it more.   Quebec was the only show I've been to in a non-English-primary area so I don't know whether it was just tour opener jitters or whether he does cut back on the talking portions of the show in non-English places -- aside from his sometimes comical attempts at speaking the native tongue. 😉  If it's a more general thing that might explain the slightly shorter times in continental Europe.

The Hydro in Glasgow has an 11pm curfew, did the Echo have one?

Precise timing per my video timestamps was 8:25 - 11:26, so the usual 3 hours. 🙂 I don't believe the Echo had a curfew, but I may be wrong.

The difference between seating and general admission standing. Major crowd participation in Copenhagen and Krakow, a highlight.

I don't think it's a GA vs seating thing, it's die-hard fans versus everyone else.  The soundcheckers are mostly standing the entire show anyway.  The new songs got a great reception from us as always, but I don't doubt that the rest of the crowd was unenthused.  In the OneOnOne shows it was like night and day during Queenie Eye on the floor (major party) versus anywhere else (bathroom exodus).

(FWIW I'm one of those who can't stand GA, and making us soundcheckers stand in line waiting for 80 minutes today was nearly as bad).

In attendance and getting lengthy call-outs from Paul were Colin Hanton (from the Quarrymen, who gets name-checked in the In Spite story) and the kid from the Fuh You video.

    • RE: Buying Hot Sound Package and going ALONE :)

I just want to second what everyone else said.  I’ve done Paul soundchecks alone, am doing ones alone again this year, have a blast every time, and agree it’s addictive.  I’ve met a lot of really cool, interesting people at Paul soundchecks, regular Paul shows, waiting outside of Paul shows, and at shows by other artists.  I frequently wind up having great conversations with people seated near me before the show, and often strangers just come up and start chatting at the reception -- or you bump into people from here (Hi, @DrivinFan!).

I was apprehensive the first time, but now I routinely go to concerts alone.  While I can miss directly sharing the experience with family & friends, it’s a huge relief not having to depend on people who can be picky and indecisive. 🙂

@SuzyLuvsPaul is right that there can be conflict when you cram so many diverse people together, but I’ve found at Paul shows there are many diehards closer to the front and side of the stage so you’re more likely to blend in among similarly crazy folks if you spring for the expensive seats.  And at shows in general you’ll find that a lot of people in the best seats are there alone -- it’s very common among “serious” concertgoers.

@yahllil, my firm advice is to go to the shows and soundchecks you want whether alone or with others -- trust me, you’ll regret it if you let others cause you to miss out!
