    • RE: Paul awarded the French Legion of Honour medal

      DanTheFan:

Remember, ordinary people laugh at the Daily Mail and The Guardian (they probably have spiteful comments too) as they're at opposite ends of the spectrum. One hates everything on the left, the other hates everything on the right whilst they both think they're correct and blame the ills of the world on anything but themselves. I actually had an argument with my history teacher the other day (im an upper-sixth former), she never liked the Beatles at all but said 'he should give it up as he's made all his money' to which I replied, he did the Olympics for a £1 and 'If you were a billionaire that loved touring and gets thousands of people singing your songs every night, would you want to stop?'. I was in a bad mood on the day, and she can irritate me sometimes. For some reason, people here in the UK look down on success or equate it with arrogance, I don't even see how people can accuse Paul of having a big ego or whatever. He's not an Elton making jabs at others all the time or criticising. Most people who work with him and musicians are in awe, the only thing I can think of is that he dyes his hair - but older women do it. Perhaps he'll stop the hairdye and he'll get everyone fawning over him, just like what happened to Tom Jones.

Please tell your History teacher from me that she's an ignorant cow who has no knowledge of the creative spirit. She might do a job she hates for the money, but a true musician will continue to write, perform and entertain for all their life for the musical fulfilment that it brings to themselves and others.

      This Is It

That album would have to start with a re-working of Spin it On.

Seriously! Leo Sayer, he was great on 'The Muppets' and all, but really!

I posted a whole thread about this, but it seems to have been taken down (I'd like to know a valid reason because no forum rules were broken) Leo Sayer tells Mccartney to quit: http://infobeatlesjpgr.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/leo-sayer-no-fan-of-paul-mccartney.html?spref=fb Update - ok it was thread merged, but maybe important enough for its own thread? Never mind. See what you think. The olympics have brought up such a wave of animosity against the poor man.

Great concert, with great sound Did they apply some sort of frequency filter to the vocal feed on You Gave Me the Answer to give it that old, compressed sound? Also, the drumming is looser, less tight than Abe Laborial, probably due to a less prominent kick drum. Quite noticeable in Magneto and Titanium man and a few others. Yeah and great vocals - no feeling of "will he reach it?" in the line "my love does it good". Voice much sweeter then. Anyone notice the sparklers on Band on The Run? Can't see that being allowed today.

And the widespread public perception seems to be that he struggled and that is sure to have done some damage to his reputation, and that will affect the future success of his albums.

I don't that is the widespread perception at all. And the other point is that albums are not the way to go anymore. With illegal downloads and record stores going out of business, they are only used to publicise a tour, where the main revenue is made - not the other way around as it used to be. There will always be a loyal fanbase for his albums, but no artists are pinning their hopes on album sales right now - hence the trouble they are going to in re-packaging albums in ever-more elaborate ways.

"Train Wreck" is a complete exaggeration. Missing a few notes is not a train wreck - missing most notes is. So long as he's keeping himself happy and making the world happy, I say keep going, at least until the general public are disgusted - like they were by Cheryl Cole's performance.

I think we should set up a new poll Will Paul be in a wheelchair before he retires? No - only joking, a bit too nasty, but he loves what he does so much I can't see him ever stopping.

At what age have other vocalists retired? Have any kept performing well into their 70s? I could do with some expert input on that - failing that, I will google the question.
