Hi, I've been a vegetarian for about 4 years, and a lacto vegetarian for 1,5 months. I have some friends and I'm trying to tell them animals are suffering and eating meat is not good for health. But so far, I haven't been able to coax any one of them into vegetarianism. They're always rejecting it by nonsense counterarguments such as: 'You imprison plants and kill them, too, then do not eat plants'. The most surprising thing that happened to me is I made my mother watch 'Earthlings' to change her mind. And I watched it together with her. It was terrible. At first, she felt bad and didn't want to talk about the issue, but the other day she started to say (like before) that I'm unhealthy since I do not eat meat. Is there a problem with people? Or with me? Have you ever succeeded in persuading somebody? Thanks for your comments and suggestions, I really want to persuade my friends and my family.

RE: Where Were you when George died?
On that date I even didn't know that a group named Beatles existed, I was 11 and was probably at school. How sad, really.......

RE: Sea Sick
I'm reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. It's written at 60's, but nothing has changed since then. It tells how millions of acres of fields, forests and living units were sprayed with DDT and much more dangerous chemicals and how it affected the environment. It's not exactly global warming, but the destruction of natural environment by human kind.

RE: Thinking of being a vegan,but...
Paulmusic:
My cousins eat brands like tofuti also there's the brand named Amy's or something like that, that have food like veggi pot pie and stuff like that also as you said nuts and berries, fruit so that would be enough I think
So, I should search for tofu in my neighbourhood. I could find it before, but it is expensive and hard to find. When I eat eggs, I feel so bad about the chickens forced to produce more and more eggs (after Sir Paul McCartney's Glass Walls video) and I also think I cannot take enough nutrients if I don't eat. Maybe it's just another prejudice like other people have about eating flesh.
No problem... was vegan for two tyears but missed cheese. Great way to stay in shape I used to do 4 hours of Shotokan 5 days a week, jog 5 miles a day.. and practice a minimum of 4 hours of drumming per day for at least 5 years. after Shotokan I did a few more years of Kyoshunkai. Keep it up GREAT way to stay in shape. If you try jogging you'll notice how much easier the rest is to do... just do your jodgging on the grass as it's less hard on the knees and ankles, 5 times around a football field equals one mile.
Wow, that's quite a bit!
Could you please inform me about your diet?

RE: Thinking of being a vegan,but...
I take my lessons in my university dojo in Turkey. I thought your cousins were bigger
Could you suggest foods that include fundamental nutrients for me? For example, if I only ate grains and nuts for protein, would it be enough? I cannot think of giving up milk, because it is what I live on. As for eggs, what can be a real substitute(except tofu)?

RE: Trying to turn veggie
Hi, congrats for your decision! I have been a vegetarian (lacto-ovo) for about four years and now trying to be a vegan. Are you gonna be a vegan or a vegetarian? I've never had a problem with not eating flesh. Actually, as you've written in your blog, I never loved meat and ate it with force of my parents. I was 14 or 15 when I went veggie, so don't worry. Cold turkey or such a symptom never happens. I wish you success and congrats again!

I also do Shotokan
Happy to find a fellow karateka here. It's so bad your cousins have such an illness like lactoseintolerance. Do they also do sports? It's a bit difficult in my neighbourhood to find protein resources like tofu, natto, vegan cheese etc. so I worry if I can't keep my performance high. I tried not eating eggs for one week, but it did not last longer
They are in everything!
