    • RE: The Meters nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2014

      jimmix:

Uploaded on Feb 24, 2009 In 1974 Paul McCartney invited the Meters to play at the release party for his Venus and Mars album aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones was in attendance at the event, and he was greatly taken with The Meters and their sound. The Rolling Stones invited the Meters to open for them on their Tour of America in 1975. That same year, the Meters recorded one of their most beloved and successful albums, Fire On The Bayou. From 1976-77 they played in The Wild Tchoupitoulas with George & Amos Landry and the Neville Brothers. The band broke up in 1977. Toussaint claimed the rights to the name "The Meters", so they played under various other names and in various combinations for the rest of the decade.

I have a recording of this Meters performance along with Professor Longhair who was the opening act. What a great night that must have been.

    • RE: Austin, Texas, Frank Erwin Center, 22 May 2013 - ARCHIVE

Made the trip in November to Houston and now see Sir Paul is coming to my hometown in Austin. I guess he really does read the signs fans hold up! I'm hoping for a FanClub PreSale but have seen nothing as yet. Anyone heard any news regarding Austin PreSale for Fan Club? Is it common NOT to have FanClub presale?

I guess we will do the limo watch and try to hear the Sound Check from outside also... Guess we will see other fans outside wherever appears to be the best place to stand around. We are leaving today. Won't make it to Houston until tomorrow.

I'll be there early Wed... might wear my "Still Pissed At Yoko" shirt.. always gets a laugh!

I know that this is not the place to talk about setlists, but a friend of mine had a comment, and it seems more appropriate here. She said, "Why didn't Paul play his song 'Missouri' here?" I thought for a few seconds and said, "Maybe because he doesn't have a song called 'Missouri'?" She started singing "Misery" Podgie (I had to laugh) Monkey

      HAHAHAHA!!!

Ya'll sound awfully jaded I have an 11 yr old boy who can't sleep right now from the excitement of this show and knowing that he will be seeing Paul on Wednesday in Houston I myself saw him in 66 and 76 and not since so thanks for the reports. it's all kind of exciting for us.

It's a long standing thing here...you are wild with excitement when you are there in person & I hope you & yours have a great time, BUT the setlist has not changed much for years...even after a name change. Read around through some old threads. (I saw him in 76 too)

I just pulled the setlist from mexico and aside from MMT opener it's been spot on.... I think I'll not say anything more to my son and possibly ruin the "surprises" - g'nite! and thx
