I'm just back from Prague having seen Paul in Berlin and then Prague. I thought the audience at argue were a bit cold. They didn't really seem to warm up until the encore! We had seats in the front row to the side of the stage and was desperate to get ups and dance. I don't like doing it when others around me don't do it. So the fella next to me ( who only seemed to recognise a few Beatles numbers ) had to put up with lots of arm waving and seat dancing from me! As in Berlin, I thought Paul was on top form. Personally, I think his voice is better than people give him credit for. It wobbled a bit during Here Today and Blackbird and singing mid range seems to work best for him. Too high or low and it wobbles but hey, what do I know? I hadn't looked at the set lists since the first shows of this tour. I thought You Won't See Me was fab. It was sung in a lower key than the original and was semi acoustic. Here, There and Everywhere on the piano was absolutely divine, just gorgeous. I've only ever heard him play it as part of the acoustic set before. And you know what, I was tickled pink that the film which accompanied Blackbird actually showed the European bird heard in the song. I don't know why but it really touched me! (I am an avid birder though). For me, a Paul McCartney concert is a private and intimate experience, if that doesn't sound weird. It's about connecting with the music, which, and the man, who, has defined my adult life. So although many here do not think he should perform it, Maybe I'm Amazed is always and forever the outstanding song of the night for me. It connects to me in the way no other song does and I do not give a fig about his voice when he sings it. Those four minutes are between me and his song. A few in the audience started to sing happy birthday to him after Maybe I'm Amazed and he looked confused at this. His gigs are clearly well oiled machines so he wasn't going to stop and listen to what was being sung. He did acknowledge his birthday though before performing 'Birthday' A couple of negatives (and hardly that) but the concert was slightly shorter than previous tours and there was just the one encore. I thought maybe that was due to the local curfew laws, but having looked at the set lists for this tour, it can't be. Maybe he's accepting he's finally getting on a bit. I've noticed over the last few years how he's cut down the audience participation at the end of Hey Jude and the jam at the end of Carry That Weight. I don't like the bringing of audience members up on the stage in the encore either. I would much rather hear another song and I dunno, they feel a bit staged and fake (not to say they are). The O2 as a venue is great and is right outside the tube station, so fantastic for public transport. I'm now hoping own hope he comes to the O2 in London later on in the year!

RE: Berlin, Germany - Waldbuhne - June 14th - ARCHIVE
I'm just back from Prague having seen Paul in Berlin and then Prague. I thought the Waldbuhne was a stunning venue. I bought tickets in the pre release sale and got block A which was to the right of the stage as you look at it. It felt a very intimate venue from where we were sitting. I thought Paul was on top form and the audience was much warmer than in Prague. Although having said that, most of us were probably half cut! There are very steep steps up to the top of the arena where all the facilities were, so people were walking throughout the venue selling beer. We got through 9 drinks between myself and my husband but that was mainly because we were hot and thirsty! The audience went mad for Band on the Run, which surprised me a bit, I don't know why. It does sound blooming fantastic live though! Fireworks were set off for Live and Let Die and there were stunning. They took full advantage of the outdoor setting. And thank you Paul for the tribute to George Martin. That was very touching. In fact his tributes to John and George are always beautifully performed and come from the heart. For me, a Paul McCartney concert is a private and intimate experience, if that doesn't sound weird. It's about connecting with the music, which, and the man, who, has defined my adult life. As a venue, I really like the Waldbuhne. It had a fantastic feeling to it and we were so relieved it didn't rain, after all the predictions of storms! Hubby didn't like it; he thought it was too far from public transport (it was a 10-15 minute walk from our tube stop) and hated the steep steps ( he has arthritis). I would go back again and i hope Sir Paul does as well.

RE: One on One Tour Merchandise
And as usual, the tour merchandise is only being sold in the USA! It's so unfair for the rest of us who don't live there!

RE: Set List critique
His voice is nowhere what it was before and the You Tube videos from the gigs do his voice a disservice. Whilst he can get out there, sing and sound something like the man I remember then I'll be going to the gigs.

RE: Was No More Lonely Nights Paul's last classic?
I've recently rediscovered Only Love Remains and think it is beautiful. Another gorgeous melody and it's lovely to sing along to in the car!

Hard to define a classic, but in my book My Valentine is a vastly better, more interesting song than No More Lonely Nights.
They can both be classics. There's plenty of room.
They can, sure. But they're not. No More Lonely Nights is mediocre, Paul on autopilot, and easily the weakest of the original tunes from Broadstreet IMHO.
Eek! I actually think it is a beautiful melody but what lets it down (imho) is the naff 80s production. It's symptomatic of the his production style of the mid 80s. It's dated with cheesy backing vocals. But may be that's just me and my view of 80s music! It's the type of song that would have benefited with a 90s revamp such as Beautiful Night.

RE: Pure McCartney
I love Bip Bop but I associate it with the fantastic pre concert film from the 1993 tour. It's a only a sort clip which starts at 2.33 but it runs into Maybe I'm Amazed which has really lovely, personal films and photos of the McCartney family. I listened to both songs a lot after that concert, not having been a huge fan of either beforehand. So may be it does have sentimental memories for Paul. I absolutely love the opening shots of Paul from the film. They still send goosebumps down me nearly 23 years on!

So, no Girls School??? But Bip Bop is on this??? And Paul wonders why he has a hard time being taken seriously sometimes as a real rock n roller.
While we could argue all day of what should or should not been included. Bip Bop is the only track that really had me gobsmacked. If you wanted something from Wild Life surely the brilliant Some People Never Know or Dear Friend or even Tomorrow should of been included instead. This aside anyway I think the package as a whole is pretty good as a wide ranging cross section of Paul''s work.
I agree. I don't hate Bip Bop, just like other songs on the LP better.
Bip Bop seems to be one of those tracks that Paul just really likes, for reasons that leave most sentient beings shaking our heads.
Perhaps there are some sweet sweet memories that go with the song? If you haven't seen it, a very touching family moment...

RE: Paul McCartney 2016 Rumors
I'd like to know if Paul will be doing any gigs in his homeland!

RE: Prague, Czech Republic - O2 Arena - June 16th - ARCHIVE
Haha I've got my Prague and Berlin tickets. We were going to fly home from Berlin on the Weds but have transferred our flights for Friday from Prague. We're getting the train to Prague from Berlin on that Weds instead. So happy! I haven't seen him twice in a week since he played Earls Court in 1993!

RE: Pick 3 favourite songs from Wings/solo albums
toris:
I will get to this exercise, once I reconcile myself with the fact you have completely disregarded "Back to the Egg". Listen to it and ask yourself the last time you heard that magnificent voice ever sound so good/rough/primal.... Some great tracks on this. And as much as I love the rock and roll and heavy, the best tracks also come under the name of soul, pop and jazz. A very underrated album. I love it.
I agree. I love this album but also think that it's a travesty Wildlife has been disregarded; Tomorrow is one of his finest early solo pieces imho.

RE: Maybe I'm Amazed or Band On The Run
JoeySmith:
Easily MIA. Not just Paul's best song, but 1 of the best songs ever. The melodic guitar riff is unworldly. Paul was in a league of his own regarding songwriting from 1968-1971.
However I would extend the dates from 1966 to 1971. His work on Revolver IMHO was exquisite. Maybe I'm Amazed is my favourite. The intro sends shivers up my spine overtime I hear it.

RE: Keynsham
I think the address given is just random and isn't meant to mean anything. The only thing that occurs to me whenever I hear 'Keynsham' is that it is the name of an album issued by the Bonzo Dog band in the late 60s. Paul was associated with the Bonzos through Magical Mystery Tour and producing I'm the Urban Spaceman. I can't find a direct link between Paul and that album, but who knows what he was thinking when he wrote that 'address' out!

RE: First Solo Album That I Heard By Paul
My first Paul solo album was Wings Greatest. I bought it on cassette in Woolworths in Oban, Scotland when I was on holiday there in August 1987. It was in the sale and I was looking for some new music to listen to on my walkman. I was bowled over by Band on the Run and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. That tape started me on a journey from someone who liked the odd Paul single (always loved Coming Up) to the person I am today.

RE: How many different songs have you seen live @ Maccas gigs?
I've seen Paul 9 times from 1990 to 2015. According to the set list website he's performed 111 different songs at those gigs. Please don't ask me to list them all here!

RE: A call for Paul's best post 1990 tracks
Tough to keep to 2/3 but essential for me are: 1. Golden Earth Girl (no surprise there!) 2. Great Day 3. Souvenir/Beautiful Night/Dance Tonight/Fine Line/English Tea/New I'm sorry, I couldn't stick to 3!

Just want to say thank you to all who contributed to this thread. I've been able to convince hubby to fly to Oslo to see this concert and followed the advice on here. I have two tickets, flight and hotel room booked! It's the first time I've seen Paul outside of the UK!

RE: Paul Wears Earplugs during LIVE AND LET DIE
When I saw him in Liverpool last month he had his eyes closed as well! I was impressed at the time as he was playing the piano but he must know that number well enough to play with is eyes closed. Haha! That's exactly what he did!

RE: Out There Tour Merch
Not only do you pay more for the official merchandise, bit if I want to order any tour merch I have to order it from the US! What's that all about?
