Any updates on future Archival Releases?

I think the general assumption is that it will be London Town and Back to the Egg. My hope is that all of the post-Beatles studio albums, at least up to Flaming Pie, will get some sort of Archive release in one form or another.

I agree. Aside from the final two Wings albums Press To Play is another interesting one im looking forward too as well.

Press to Play would make a fantastic Archive release. Lots of interesting material from that general period could be included. I also hope Off the Ground gets a proper Archive release. It's not a universally popular album amongst fans but I have a real soft spot for it.

I've just had a thought  - can anybody confirm if McCartney 3 is a double or single vinyl ? If it's double I'm ok paying £34 .

That's what I was thinking too. That is indeed closer to the price I'd expect to pay for a double vinyl album. By contrast, Sting has just announced a new compilation of duets (which, astonishingly enough, is entitled 'Duets'), and there is a double vinyl edition of it which is available to pre-order for £21.99 from udiscover. A full £10 less and it's a double album!

With that being said, I have gone ahead and ordered the black vinyl edition of McCartney III regardless.I haven't ordered any of the other vinyl editions as I generally don't bother with coloured vinyl, largely because it is unlikely I'll ever play them anyway. As much as I love my vinyl, I don't want to needlessly buy four or five versions of the same album, especially when they all have the same musical content! Standard CD and vinyl does the job for me.

Just seen that for the "Sticking Out of my Back Pocket" playlist released today is about songs where Paul played all the songs himself. Could it be preparing for McCartney III or am I connecting dots that aren't there? 🤔

That was my first thought as well. I suspect it's a bit too much of a coincidence for it not to be a signal towards a McCartney III.

New album confirmed by Rusty in an interview (go to 34:49):

Interestingly, the passage of this interview where Rusty mentions the new album has been mysteriously edited out. I hope Rusty hasn't got himself into hot water by letting the cat out of the bag!

THAT…is terrible. But I have to say the one at the top of this page is actually quite believable! It could very easily pass as a genuine front cover.

There is a premiere of a remastered 'Young Boy' video set to go live on YouTube at 1700BST tomorrow. It says in the description that this will be available as part of the 2020 Flaming Pie Collector's Edition.

    • RE: Paul McCartney 2019 Tour Rumours

I wouldn't be surprised if touring takes a bit of a back seat for a while to allow Paul to work on the It's a Wonderful Life musical. Also being a huge fan of Sting and Mark Knopfler, who have both been working on musicals in recent years, I know that these projects can potentially take up a good deal of time as the productions are developed and changes are made which require new songs to be written and/or alterations to existing songs.

Interesting. Flaming Pie would certainly be a very welcome addition to the series if this is indeed the case. A classic album now and a big personal favourite of mine.

I don’t suppose anyone has heard any whispers as what the next Archive Collection sets might be? As all but two of the Wings albums have had Archive editions released, I would imagine we’ll get London Town and Back to the Egg at some stage…at least I would hope so anyway.

I have to say I’m a huge fan of these deluxe sets, expensive as they are. In an ideal world it’d be great to have Archive sets of all the post-Beatles albums, though realistically I doubt that will happen. If/when the series of deluxe box sets does eventually come to an end, perhaps smaller expanded editions of the remaining albums would be in order, with a bonus audio disc of associated outtake/unreleased material and new liner notes.
