I didnt realize 'So Bad' was released as the second single in the U.S. until recently. In the U.S., 'Say Say Say' was a smash & reached Number 1. I don't remember 'So Bad' played on the U.S. radio back then, although surprisingly, it hit Number 23 on the US charts. In the US, 'Pipes of Peace' was the b-side to 'So Bad', although in the UK, 'Pipes of Peace' was the A-side and hit #1. 'Pipes of Peace' probably would have been a Top 10 hit in the U.S. if it was the A-side.

RE: Paul's new album and promotion

Paul is using Adele's producer to produce his new album. Yikes! Not a good sign.
In addition to co-writing and producing "Hello" for Adele, which won three grammys (including song of the year), Greg Kurstin also produced the album "Morning Phase" by Beck (which won the Grammy for album of the year), The Shins album "Port of Morrow", a couple of albums for Sia, and is the producer for the upcoming Foo Fighters album, "Concrete and Gold". That's a pretty diverse list of artists, so I'm excited to see what kind of record McCartney made with him!
That alliance does sound promising, considering the artists Kurstin's worked with besides Adele. Not that she's just small potatoes herself, but she's pretty commercialized I guess. Not way "out there" and super artsy, but with a distinctive pleasing singing voice and songwriting talents. It's cool he helped produce Beck, Sia, the Shins and Foo Fighters and their ilk. Seems like Macca chose wisely
My critique is that Paul is going for the "flavor of the month". He's done this in the past with very mixed results. Hugh Padgham , Trevor Horn are just a few "hot" producers that come to mind that did poorly with Macca's material. Kurtin is known for his "big" sound & this makes me worried Paul is trying to go for commercial songs. At this point in his career, I'd rather see experimental Paul.

RE: A call for Paul's best post 1990 tracks
Any Paul greatest song list needs to include his peace anthem 'Freedom' which comforted this country after the terrorist attacks.

Paul gives contemporary review of The White Album
Very interesting to hear Paul give his thoughts in 1968. The announcer basically insults him by saying people were expecting a "step up" from Pepper! Paul seems a bit testy/defensive when he talks about John songs . You could feel the tension starting to emerge. For those who argue what is 'Martha My Dear' about, Paul settles the debate once and for all.

RE: June 25th...Major Historical 50th Beatle Anniversary
They should have turned things upside down and played the b-side Baby You're a Rich Man live instead, which is the better song.

RE: Beatles songs ranked
Ridiculous. How can anyone take this list seriously by ranking "Please Mr. Postman" higher than "Lucy in the Sky w/Diamonds" & "Money..That's What I Want" higher than "Let it Be" & "Yesterday". I want 5 minutes of my life back!

I've never heard a song by Paul, or anyone, that actually made me cringe.
I Am Your Singer Bip Bop Long Haired Lady Average Person Nobody Knows
LoL. I kinda agree with I Am Your Singer. Linda singing lead is like Yoko singing lead on a John album. It should never be!! I dont mind Cook of the House as much as I think its meant to be a spoof & Paul's double bass playing is killer.

RE: Flaming Pie has aged very well - 20 year anniversary

If I remember correctly, it was hailed at the time as Paul's "comeback" album (for the nth time in his career...lol). OTG was very poorly received, both critically & commercially, & The Beatles had just released Anthology to wide acclaim. Looking back, i think the album is a bit over-rated. A lot of 'good' & 'average' songs, but not many high points as in most Macca albums. Also, the 2 clunkers are clearly the Steve Miller songs which should have been left off!
___________________________________________________________ Joey, I respect your opinion but we will have to agree to disagree. In my opinion, Paul Post Wings has had 5 very, very good albums. They are Tug, Flowers, Flaming Pie, Chaos and Maf. Almost every, even masterpiece type albums (even great ones like Sgt. Pepper) will often have a clunker or, to put it better, a couple of lesser quality songs. Sgt. Pepper for example had Within You Without You. It's not that it is a bad song but it didn't really fit the rest of the songs. As much as George Martin tried (he put it as the opening song on side 2 which was smart), it really didn't fit well with the rest of the songs. In fact, John, Paul and Ringo didn't even play on it. Getting back to Flaming Pie, I disagree that "Pie" had a "lot of good and average songs". Again, in my opinion, songs like The World Tonight, Somedays, Young Boy, Calico Skies, Souvenir, Little Willow and Beautiful Night are far better than just good or average. They are very good. Put those songs on Beatle albums that got massive airplay at the time and many of them would be considered classics today. I would put Somedays, Little Willow and Beautiful Night as great songs and every bit as good as Paul's greatest Beatle songs. Yes, Paul as usual, did throw a couple of clunkers on Flaming Pie. The real clunker, in my opinion, is Really Love You where Paul and Ringo are just playing around in the studio. It is basically a "jam session" type song. It doesn't ruin the album for me but in hindsight Paul could have replaced it with another really good song (e.g, Wings on a Nightingale). The rest of the album has what I call "good" album cuts, songs that fit well on the album. They would include The Song We Were Singing (nice opening track), If You Wanna, Heaven on a Sunday, Great Day and the title cut. I understand that Used to be Bad is an average track but to me it does fit well on the album. Flaming Pie is not for everyone and I understand your view. I just have a different point of view. I consider it one of his best Solo albums because of the many very good to classic Macca songs on it.
One of the few Macca albums that have I have viewed more negatively over time. It's a very polished album...too polished. The album lacks "bite" or eccentricity that is found in many Macca albums. I can understand why - it's very Beatley-sounding after Anthology & I believe he recorded a lot of it when Linda was sick. I like 'Beautiful Night', 'Little Willow', 'Calico Skies' & 'Somedays'. But the rest of the songs are not very memorable for me. I never go back to them. Again, they're not bad, but too sterile for my taste. The only songs I dislike are the 2 Steve Miller songs & the Ringo song.

24 for me. I got the 1st question wrong(!) & got lucky on a few smart guesses.

RE: Paul 75 today!
It's a big milestone! Congrats to Paul. If his marketing team had any creativity, they should release 'Birthday' as a single with a "special" B-side.

disappointing that it dropped to #4 from #1. It would have been cool if it stayed at #1 throughout the summer like it did 50 years ago.

RE: GUESS WHAT'S COMING OUT ON BLURAY?
The movie was unfairly criticized at the time, imo, because how dare anyone try to make a movie around the songs of the best band of all-time. Sacrilegious & too soon after the breakup. But, the movie can now be enjoyed on its own merits & has some really great sequences & performances - Aerosmith in their prime doing 'Come Together', Steve Martin at his zany best doing Maxwell Silver Hammer & the 'Golden Slumbers' funereal scene at the end chokes me up every time.

Bruce M.:
Call me a party pooper (I've been called far worse), but I just have no interest in a remixed Sgt. Pepper. It's a historical artifact, imperfections and all, and I prefer it to stay that way.
Pepper is the most important album the Beatles ever released. But Pepper wasn't even the best Beatles album of 1967! Song for song, MMT is overall higher quality and more experimental, imo.

RE: Beatles next reissue project
Worth it just to get a "clean" version of the boys doing 'Sour Milk Sea', which should have been on the album.

Anyone know about the change in writing credits on the new Pepper? She's Leaving Home credited to McCartney, Day in the Life to Lennon, plus several changed to McCartney-Lennon....according to this Rolling Stone review: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/review-the-beatles-sgt-peppers-anniversary-editions-w484397
This topic has come up on other discussion forums on the web and, bottom line, no one really knows where they got that information. On my set, the ripped tracks give all composer credit (except WYWY of course) to either M-L or L-M, except for a couple of tracks with no composer entered. All the non-WYWY lyrics in the book and on the packaging are credited to L-M. Others have reported the same. Maybe RS got some weird early pressing with errors?
What an embarrassment. He's writing the article & doesnt question its a mistake?? Any casual Beatle fan knows that this was a truly collaborative songwriting effort. Why would Paul get 1st author credit on LSD - a clear John song!

Giles Martin recent comments on "Carnival of Light'
This is Giles Martin quote on the song: ""Carnival of Light" was designed for the Roundhouse in London for an experience. It's quite progressive, in a way. It's basically for a walk-through experience, so it's not a song, it's a sound-piece. And I think we should do something fun with it. That's what I'd like to do. It's on the same tape as "Penny Lane," but it's not "Penny Lane." But it's interesting and emotive, and it's them, and I think we just need to find the right place for it. " Sounds like a great piece of music. Why is Yoko or Olivia keeping this song from being heard??? This was written by Paul at his absolute peak. Paul should put his foot down.

RE: Favorite Parts George Martin Added to Beatle Songs
The orchestra & string arrangements to "She's Leaving Home". A beautiful, classical -produced song, something Schubert could have written.
