I've been listening to THE WHITE ALBUM from the 6 CD + 1 Blu-Ray Super Deluxe Set, IT SOUNDS GREAT! The 2018 mix is the best mix to date! I've been listening to the CD's with my earbuds as well as my 8000 watt high powered stereo system, THE BASS IS INCREDIBLE! My whole house is shaking from the BASS!

I'd like to add something to my post! While the 2018 mix is great due to the tremendous bass,  you don't hear the guitar sounds as much. While songs such as "Birthday," "Helter Skelter" and "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey" have great bass, you barely hear the guitar sounds. What do you think?

Personally,  Helter-skelter sounds hollow to me. The original had Pauls booming bass that was just as loud as the lead guitar. Now it sounds way too clean and soft, the opposite of what Paul intended. Giles ruined the song with this new mix. Also what happened to the really loud 20 minute version we always heard about. Instead we get a slower blues groove.  A big miss.

For those who make the argument that Macca's early 70's worked was helped by his brand, I would make the opposing argument. His early 70's work was unfairly criticized by both critics & fans at the time because it was being constantly compared to his Beatles work.  It was clear that Paul was not trying to sound like the Beatles & the fact that he was able to both experiment & be commercially successful is a testament to the quality of his 70s work. Seriously, there are so many hits & hidden gems on Paul's 70s work - more that virtually any other artist in that period - that its hard to believe any fan would call his 70's work mediocre.

Also, if the quality wasnt there, fans would stop buying the albums & singles. Its happened to many solo artists after they left successful bands. We also saw it with the other solo beatles. Ringo, George & John's sales dropped dramatically after the quality of their early 70s work dropped. Meanwhile, Paul's sales & hits continued to climb or stay steady throughout the 70s & early 80s.

Paul needs to shake things up to get his edge back. For his next tour, he should play the Wild Life album in its entirety, do Soily as the encore, drop the mic and walk off the stage.

    • RE: Top 21 Paul / Wings albums

Slots 8 through 14 are so close in score that the album positions could be interchangeable.

The only big surprise to me is how low ES is, especially with mostly positive critical reviews and user reviews on sites like Amazon. One would expect a recency bias, but in this case a positive not negative bias.

My only theory is the FU song. It really garnered some negative/hate reaction from Paul fans. Also, Repeated Warnings sends an obvious political message and perhaps that rubbed a certain group of people the wrong way.

70''s material overrated??? I can't believe what I'm reading. There's a damn good reason that Paul was the 2nd most successful solo act of the decade behind only Elton John.  Being overplayed doesn't diminish how great the material is. Song for song BOTR is a melodic masterpiece and nothing Paul did post 80s can even compare.

Wow. Between cleaned up demos, new mixes, and new songs, the potential here is amazing. Sour Milk Sea, Goodbye,, Not Guilty, Look at Me, Junk, Circles and Child of Nature all could have Beatles A-sides.

    • RE: Remastered 50th Anniversary White Album?

The White Album keeps growing in stature over time. Song for song, it's their best album hands down.

I hope we get the complete Esher sessions.  The stripped down Good Night before George Martin ruined the song would be the worth the price of admission alone.

I think the only flaw with the album is the ending is a letdown. Revolution 9 was a cool concept , but did it have to be 8 minutes?? John could have gotten his message across and make it much more listenable if it was edited to 3 minutes. Then, instead of the horrible orchestra production, a simple beautful Good Night with harmonies would have made a perfect closer. I can't believe John gave the thumbs up to the final version.  My guess is he didn't care or want to be bothered.

Dominoes is easily my favorite on the album. Love Paul's voice on the verses.  Instantly catchy and a message song.

    • RE: THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL

Why didn't Paul release the RRS double album? Wasn't that his original intention? Did the suits talk him out of it? It's too bad as there is high quality material over both albums. Man, Night Out is one of Paul''s best tunes. It's a shame.

So, can someone explain the logic to me that ZERO songs from the brilliant Flowers in the Dirt album was on the  Pure McCartney compilation album, with the supposed explanation that FITD would be out soon as a deluxe/remastered album??
