The thread title immediately brought to mind "Party Party." That's a pretty neglected little tune, too.
There would be a few "skips" along the way, but the most obvious one for me is "Promise to You Girl," one of the most blithely awful songs in Paul's catalog.
"From a Lover to a Friend" A threadbare excuse for a song. Sir P. should have written some lyrics instead of trying to adlib a vocal.
It isn't particularly faithful to the original melody, is it? Sounds a bit haphazard.

I thought it was dreadful...like a rubbish Helter Skelter wannabe.
Indeed. The attention given to the piece is due entirely to the celebrity of the people who made it, not to the merits of the song. There is precious little composition to speak of.

The Iraq war has left us with a much bigger problem. Saddam Hussein, was Iran's greatest enemy, because of that Tehran's influence in Iraq is much stronger today than is America's. Iran does not control Iraq but Tehran no longer has anything to fear from its western neighbor now that a Shia-dominated government sits in Baghdad, made up of parties whose leaders spent long years of exile in Iran under Saddam . The Iraq war was a debacle we will be paying for for decades.
I agree with a lot of what Sally says (did hell freeze over this week??). There certainly was a neutralizing effect when Saddam Hussein was in power, helping to keep Iran subdued. Debacle? I think that remains to be seen, and it may be very hard to quantify the effect of the war down the road, considering the way things seem to be coming undone far and wide in the Middle East since the beginning of this year.

... Basically the bush administration took advantage of the after shock of 9/11 to start an unnecessary illegal war by lying about the reasons. that's it in a nutshell...
Bless her heart, more fairy dust from the fertile imagination of our Sally. I'm no fan of the UN, but that resolution received a unanimous vote from the Security Council. (Sally, that means all of the members voted in favor of it. It wasn't only George Bush who decided to invade.) What do you mean by "illegal" and by "lying"? Please explain, and try to be coherent. And don't repeat that tired line about no WMDs. We know Hussein had WMDs. Do you know how we know, in addition to all the available intelligence? We know because HE USED THEM. Did you know that, Sally? Read it again - Hussein USED weapons of mass destruction, and he never did account for getting rid of them as required by multiple UN resolutions.
mustangsally10:
...tell me why are you a republican...what have the republicans done for you or even for the US in modern times??
There it is, folks, the classic parasite-liberal mindset. There?s Sally, crouched in her Daily Kos echo chamber, arms folded, foot tapping, waiting for her politician to DO SOMETHING for her. What a waste. Sally, I?m not waiting for any politician to do anything for me. I expect them to abide by the Constitution, respect the separation of powers, and basically stay the hell out of the way. My life is what I make of it, not what a politician makes of it for me. And how did you decide I?m a Republican -- because I detest the reptile in the White House? I?m a Conservative, not a Republican. There are plenty of Republicans who have disgusted me over the years, too. One of the worst things George Bush ever said was, ?I violated the principles of the free market to save the free market.? No, George. What you should have said is, ?I violated the principles of the free market.? Period. John Kennedy had a good quote. Sally, he was the 35th president of the United States, back in the early ?60s. He was a Democrat and he was more conservative than most of today?s Republicans. He said, ?Ask not what your country can do for you.? I?ll bet you don?t even know the next line. It is obvious you wouldn?t agree with it.

In your heart you know Barry is hopeless. As with the line above, your posts always scream, "I just want to like this guy! Forget the truth, watch me polish this steamy pile!!" So is he trying to take credit for this? "Leading from behind" is an idiotic phrase concocted to claim credit when someone else was in charge. Maybe the governor of Oklahoma should take some credit, too. She didn't have anything to do with it either. You are Debbie Wasserman Schultz, aren't you?

SARAH PALINS, A BAD REALITY TV CANDIDATE..FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE TO BUSY TO THINK!
Sweetheart, she wasn't even on the ballot. Wake up. It seems anyone with a functioning central nervous system has figured out this guy's number by now (though approximately half of us never fell for his dope and chains in the first place). Yesterday was a good start, but the Republicans are on probabtion as far as I'm concerned. Let's see how they do, if they can put a stop to this epic incompetence. Maybe we'll be able to purge a few more RINOs in the next election cycle.
peacetrain:
As always, the Republicans who claim the defense of the constitution as their own personal responsibility are the ones who seek to shred it. One more point for the deranged right wingers in the US and on this board!
Your "point" is a canard in the first place, but after what's happened in the last 21 months, now you're going to pretend to give one whit about the Constitution? How sanctimonious.
Bruce M.:
The Washington Post, "not known for any pro-Republican bias"? In what parallel universe??? Their editorial page has been screechingly right-wing for years...
You must be thinking of the Washington Times, not the Washington Post. By the way, Rich N, that was a great story you told! Maybe the fact that your friends aren't speaking to you indicates they know you are right but they're too small to admit it - yet.
Altanon:
Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words:
You must be kidding. Are there still people out there who don't know what the Supreme Court ruling was in this case? The court did not say Bush won the election. The question put to the court was, "Can Al Gore violate election law and have only a partial recount instead of a state-wide recount?" Gore wanted to ignore Florida election law and cherry pick which counties to recount. The court said, no, you have to follow the law. Recount all the votes or forget it. Some independent entities then took it upon themselves to see what would have happened if Gore had had his way, and were dismayed to find they couldn't count the votes to Gore's benefit. Bush was the winner by tiny margins every time. So, even if the court had decided in Gore's favor and allowed him his partial recount, Bush still would have won. Get over it. And what is this "52%" on the poster? Gore certainly didn't have 52% of the vote.

...Jesus was a Liberal.
One of two things: 1) You're talking about a Jesus other than the one in the Bible, or 2) You have a new definition of "liberal"
based on his teaching he believed in taking care of the sick. Left supports health care for all Americans. He was for tolerances certainly the Dem are a more inclusive organization. He was for peace. The Right not so much. Jesus threw the money lender off the steps of the temples..the GOP is backed heavily by banking donation and have sold out our country to them and wall street. Really taking care of your fellow man is pretty much the sum of it.. GOP is for taking care of the corporation and have forsaken the working class. The Democrat at least were trying to get some of the money into the hands of the little people who earned the money. Health care reform means none of us will ever be forced to work for health care in loo of wages.. Corp. america loves having a control over benefit they can use to keep wages down.. if your child sick your hardly going to ask for a raise or could you quit you job. Health care for far too long has become a way to scare americans into submission..
Obviously closer to #2, then. Jesus was apolitical (Appletart, that means he was not political). He taught personal responsibility, charity and love for one's neighbor. He never preached in favor of big government confiscating what one person has earned and giving it to someone who hasn't earned it. He never encouraged anyone, particularly an able-bodied person, to become dependent on big government. Everything you talk about pertains to Big Government taking away one's independence and personal responsibility, and getting its tentacles ever tighter around your throat. That is liberalism, and Jesus never went anywhere near it. Regarding political donations from corporations, you may be interested to know which candidate received BP's biggest donations in 2008. (Hint: it wasn't John McCain.)

- What in the world does BP have to do with privately run philanthopic foundations? I'm comparing the federal government to [fill in the name of your favorite charity, if you have one]. 2) Who said anything about individual rights? I'm all for them, and most conservatives I know believe very strongly in individual rights. But there is a difference between individual rights and government largesse, and where to balance those two is one of the main philosophical differences between liberals and conservatives. This true for both Democrats and Republicans -- it's just that there are more conservatives in the Republican party, proportionally, so the party tends to pursue conservatives social agendas. 3) I have an ideology of selfishness and greed? Believe me, of the many thousands of people i've met in my life -- in all walks of life -- i doubt that you would find one who would describe me as selfish or greedy. I would take that as an insult, except you don't even know me so once again you're making a statement with absolutely no basis in fact. Which is the real reason I won't argue with you.
EADG, you are an island of reason in the sea of sophistry that makes up most of this thread.
Thanks. i think you'll be seeing less of me on this thread. I'm pretty busy and this is beginning to feel like a waste of time. But i'm glad you appreciated my contributions.
That's a conclusion I reached a while ago, too. I still check in now and then for a chuckle, though. One can take some consolation in the fact that the majority of the political opinions on this forum are in the minority in the general population, and becoming more so.

A man stands with a hammer pounding holes in the walls. Beating out the pipes that run through the house and crashing holes in the stairs that lead to many rooms upstairs. He lets out a satisfied grunt. There is still so much work to do...
That's a great analogy, and very appropriate! I can see November from my house.

I admire him a lot for calling out the "global warming" hucksters. He is a refreshing voice of reason.
